I phone 5 screen won't dim/ go to sleep?

My wife'sphone won't dim screen stays bright? Battery eating..

I am having the same problem. This just started a couple of days ago. Sometimes the computer refuses to go to sleep. The little white light does not flash, and I can tell that the screen is not powering down. If I give up and leave the lid closed for the day, even though it's not asleep, when I return and open the lid the screen is dark and I think that the computer has shut down. I think that the computer must shut off after an hour. I do not seem to lose much (any?) battery power in these cases. But simply hitting the restart button (or any button) does not bring the dark screen back to life. Inevitably, I have to hit the restart button at least two or three times, and at that point the computer completely restarts. I'm worried that this problem is simply going to get worse. I am not running any big programs on my computer at all, and I don't have any voice programs, and this problem occurs even if I shut down every open application. But it never used to matter if I left programs open; it would sleep anyway. Going to the drop-down menu to ask the computer to sleep manually does not work. What can I do?

Does anyone else have this issue?

This is an issue with the proximity sensor, which has been discussed in hundreds of posts in this forum, which makes you wonder why the search option even exists.
The sensor is either blocked by dust, dirt or a screen protector, or defective. In both cases you'd better take the phone to a Nokia Care Point for assessment

On another (third laptop I've put arch on) computer, the screen won't dim automatically. It's using gnome and when I unplug the power cord, the OSD comes up showing a lower value but the screen stays the same.

I've got it somewhat going now using acpid. I'm just not sure which to use under battery and A/C and which of those to use. Right now, it dims when unplugged but nothing when I replug. Actually, all it does is dim, when there is a switch.

    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer

  • Mac screen won't dim, mac won't go to sleep after VNC connection (ARDAgent)

I can't seem to figure this out. Have my mac configured to auto dim and sleep after 10 minutes. When I have used a VNC client to log on to my mac (via iphone or work PC) using different VNC clients the mac won't dim or sleep after 10 minutes.
After hours of trying to find the culprit it seems to be the process ARDAgent. When I force quit this process the mac will dim and sleep as usual. I tried different VNC clients but the problem seems to be on the mac end. Only a force quit or disabling screen sharing from the settings.app seem to help.
Anyone any idea how to fix this?

I close the screen to my Macbook Pro when going to be away for a length of time.  Until recently, the screen would turn on when I opened the computer.  Now, although the computer is on, the screen won't light up when I open it.  The laptop now requires a forced rebook in order for the screen to work.  Will this require a service call?

  • Dropped phone now screen won't work

Hi, I bought a Blackberry Pearl around 2 weeks ago. Today, for the first time, I dropped it from a height of 3 feet and the screen went white. I removed the battery because I could not turn it off with the button, when I tried to turn it back on, the screen would not respond. I get a black screen now, however, the cellphone still works, I still get calls. What do you recommend I do because where I am from, the people who can actually repair the blackberrys work for private companies and I purchased my phone online. First question, can the blackberry still be saved?  Second question, is the repair process simple?  Would a new screen do the deed?  I hope someone can assist me with this I was deeply shocked when I realized the phone didn't work the fall was nothing out of the ordinary and the phone was brand new, I feel ripped off .

    danielp48 wrote:
the fall was nothing out of the ordinary
It may have been a simple fall, but depending on how / where the phone "hit" the floor could have caused damage. Remember that electronic devices are fickle and sensitive to minor "shocks", so your phone very well could have fallen on that "magic spot" that made it break.
As for getting it fixed, you don't mention where you are, but you may want to search for an online repair shop that you can send your phone to.

  • Screen won't dim w/ Intel KMS [SOLVED]

I have a rather obscure Gateway T-series laptop, with an Intel 965 chip. To get backlight working I had to use acpi_backlight=vendor in Grub, but if KMS is on I can't dim anymore, either with the keys or xbacklight. The keys have no effect, and xbacklight says "No outputs have backlight property".
I haven't noticed any benefits from using KMS, so before now I usually had it off, but it seems that that isn't going to be an option anymore. Am I just SOL now? Anyone dealt with this before?

Re: No brightness adjustment on samsun n210 (Intel GMA 3150)
    Hi,
you can adjust brightness level by sending values directly to device, by setpci:
    setpci -s 00:02.0 f4.b=ff
where 00:02.0 is the device address returned by lspci, and ff is a hexadecimal value <0,ff>. I have n210 running Debian, works well
Because it wasn't easy to control brightness this way, I've written a program that adjusts brightness, you can download source from here:
    ftp://x.servebeer.com:51300/bright.c
    or here:
    http://info.wsisiz.edu.pl/~sieluzyc/bright.c
It's a _very simple_ program, but it allows you to increase/decrease brightness by predefinied step, check actual brightness level and set level to a specific value.
It uses the same method that setpci does (write to file in /sys), so plz remember this can be dangerous - use at your own risk.
App does not assign any key shourtcuts, you have to do this manually.

  • Screen won't turn on after sleep

Hey guys, I've only had my GT-72 for a month and recently I've been having issues when putting mine to sleep.
I'll close the lid, come back later, open the lid and the power/gpu lights/front lights turn on, but that's it. I also hear the hard drive fire up too. The screen although does not turn on and no matter if I tap the keyboard/peripheral mouse, or power button it is unresponsive. The only way I can get the laptop back is to do a hard shutdown by holding the power button and restarting it.
Any solutions or ideas what may be causing this?
    Thanks all!

The possible causes of the situation could be a lot. You had better contact service center for precise testing . If you insist to try bios renewing ,you can refer to the following link of msi website.>>http://www.msi.com/files/pdf/Flash_BIOS_by_UEFI_BIOS_Setup_Utility_en.pdf

  • Screen won't turn on after sleep for newest macbook pro (Feb 26 2011)

    Hi!
I just bought the 13' Macbook Pro with an 2.7GHz dual-core i7 processor and 500GB of space, the $1500 model. I am having a problem with the screen and I am wondering if I should be worried about it or if anyone else has noticed it. If it continues, I will have to take it into the store and see if I can get it fixed.
My macbooks screen will not turn on after it falls asleep for a long period of time. The first night I had this computer, it was playing music and I turned the screen brightness all the way down/off and then I fell asleep. The energy settings were set so that the computer would fall asleep after 20 minutes. Pathfinder, F.lux and iTunes were the only application running at the time. When I woke up the next morning, the light on the computer's side indicating it was asleep was slowly fading in and out (as expected). I hit some keys on the keyboard and the keyboards backlighting turned on after a few seconds.
But the screen did not turn on. I tried adjusting the screen brightness on the keyboard and nothing happened. After a few minutes, I held down the power button and heard the computer turn off. I turned the computer back on, AND THE SCREEN LOOKED VERY STRANGE. I could see part of iTunes fragmented/segmented into 5 or 6 sections across the screen. There were also strange lines going across the screen. It looked kind of like a leftover image of iTunes that could be solved with a screen refresh. I turned off my computer again and turned it back on about two more times, and then the screen would simple just not turn on.
As I was packing up to go to the Apple Store, I tried one more time to turn my computer on and the screen was working fine. This was yesterday, and for the rest of the day the computer seemed to work fine. However, I don't think I let my computer fall asleep all day yesterday because I was using it so much.
Basically the same thing happened this morning when I woke up, except to a lesser degree. My computers screen was unresponsive after keyboard input, but I was able to get music to play from my speakers. I restarted it and it seems to be working fine. I didn't see the screen do that weird fragmentation thing this time.
I think something about the sleep function is interfering with my computer's screen. Or perhaps Pathfinder or F.lux have something to do with it. F.lux, by the way, is a application that turns the screen a dark yellowish at night to help your eyes. But I have friends that use this application and I myself have used it for a while and we have never had this problem. Then again, none of them have a 13 inch with an i7.
Does anyone know about this problem and have advice that would save me a trip to the Apple store?
    thanks!

Bad news and good news. The bad news is that it happened again this morning. The good news is that I finally found something interesting in the console log, at the exact second my clock is stuck when the machine is failing to wake from sleep:

From when the problem apparently starts (some point in the night while my machine is idle and supposedly asleep) until when I discover it and reboot the machine, I get dozens or hundreds of the above messages. Now somebody just needs to figure out what that means and stop it from happening...

  • Macbook pro screen won't wake up after sleep

I'm having a strange problem that just started today.
I close my macbook pro lid and put it asleep. Then when I open the lid the keyboard lights up. The screen comes on for about three seconds and everyone looks fine then the screen goes to sleep again. If I close the lid and open it again it comes on for 3 seconds and goes to sleep again.
Occasionally I can get it to stay on hitting Function and brightness keys. But just as often it takes a hard reset to get things working again. But then if I close the lid and open it the problem starts again.
    Any idea?
I'm running the lastest Lion update.

thanks. obviously i'd like to avoid such a time-intensive move before looking at other options.
To make things more intresting I've fund it ONLY does it when plugged into a charger.
AND if I briefly unplug the charger after the screen comes up black it immediately wakes up and stays on.
    weird.
I've reset the SMC. But still get the same issue (if plugged in).

  • Screen won't wake up after sleep mode

I bought the new Macbook Air 13" a month ago, and I got a problem with my screen display recently. This is the second time in a week. It went to sleep mode and when i opened the lid, the screen was still black as usual and no matter what i pressed (I tried touching and clicking the track pad as well), nothing happened. So i ended up pressing down the power button to restart it. The only thing I could do was to report this problem as it just turned unresponsive after the sleep mode.
Has anyone encountered the same problem as I did?

I'm having this exact same issue with my wife's 11" MacBook Air (July 2011) we just bought it last weekend and she's frustrated with the issue.
I have none of these issues with my 13" MacBook Pro (March 2011) which frustrates her even more, she wanted the Air because of the portability, but she's not very happy with this issue.
I imagine if it were a bug with Lion it would be present on my MacBook Pro, right? so I can only think is a firmware issue.
Hope Apple releseas a fix very soon!

        Oh no Mr.Ected!
I can see if we can get your phone back on! I understand how important it is to have a phone. Have you tried this to see if we can get it back on? http://vz.to/1DZhteH . If it is still goes to a red Verizon screen and then to black we might need to do a master reset. While the phone is off try this:http://vz.to/1DZhXkU Be mindful this is the last resort because it will erase everything on the phone. If you have done back up assistant in the past you will be able to get you contacts back. Please let me know if you need any more help.
