I phone 6 using way to much data

my phone seems to be using data up quicker than all other devices. please help me try to trouble shoot.

One of the biggest data hogs that I found out the hard way is social media.  I don't know if you use FB at all...but if you do, and haven't already done so, disable the auto play for videos.  I started burning through data a while back and could't figure out why...well, for me, it was the videos that start playing the moment you scroll past  them in FB.  I sure there are many other ways that data is consumed...but for me this was a big one.  BTW, if you're coming from a slightly older device...just know that you iP6 is a lot faster and downloads things faster than previous iPhones.  You'll download full pages before you know it even if you never scroll all the way to the bottom.  Lots of web pages are including advertisements that burn data that you may not realize.  This is just a starting point...You can also look in your settings to see which app is consuming the most data.

I've also had the same issues, after upgrading to IOS 6.0, the apps in my iPhone 4 were crashing and the battery life run out very fast.
The only solution worked for me was to remove all mail accounts (Exchange/Gmail) from my iPhone (in settings) and then add them back.
The crashing were stopped! also the battery was back to normal.
I found the solution by first looking at the crash logs (in IOS 6). you can find them at Settings -> General -> About (at the bottom of the About menu you will find the option that opens the logs).
There i saw many logs about Low Memory crash. 99% of the logs were pointed that the largest process (use the most memory) during the crashes is "dataaccessd".
I search in the web and found that this process is a deamon process that reponsible the Mail accounts (like Exchange/Gmail) and contancts list.
I've installed the app "System Status - activity monitor" which shows important system info like CPU usage, Memory usage and running processes.
Before apply my solution (deleting the mail accounts) i saw that the CPU usage was very high which consume the battery very fast. Also i saw that the memory (RAM) was run out.. which probably what cause the crashing..
After deleting the mail accounts (at Settings -> Mail, Contacts, Calendars) i check again with the System Status app, and saw that the memory and CPU were back to normal.
Adding the mail accounts back, still everything work ok
Hope this solution will help you too,
    Enjoy!

  • Downloading iCloud songs to play on iPhone when wifi not available uses way too much data

When I am out of town (camping) or away from a wifi site and want to play a song with the iCloud symbol, I have to use a lot of data - I'd like songs to be available to me to play whenever I want without having to download or be near a wifi site...help!

We are in the same boat.  Got our daughter a 5S in February, it came with iOS 7.1 and it consistently uses at least double, if not tripple the amount of data that her 4S did (with 7.1 loaded).  She uses the same apps that she did before, no more, no less.  We have done ALL the tweaks recommended on the various boards, shut off cellular to apps, etc.  We have been arguing with AT&T (our provider) and Apple.  AT&T states that the usage is the usage and what is being reported by the device.  We have been to Apple and had the phone wiped clean and new iOS 7.1 loaded.  As a test with the 5S, with everything off cellular except Safari, I reset the statistics to 0 and then went to three websites (google, ask, webcrawler).  I then used my personal iphone 4S (on verizon), reset the statistics and went to the same three websites.  The 5S used more than double the data that the 4S did to load the same pages.
(I went to the pages first prior to resetting the statistics so that they would be cached)
Can anyone explain this?   The Apple Genius tech could not and replaced the device.  Guess what.....  The new device does the same thing.
I am so disgusted with this whole thing AT&T <----- | -----> Apple.......  No answers.  Its obviously a problem..  Either Device, iOS (starting with 6) or communication between device and networks (Sim Card?)
Has anyone ever solved this since it arose in 2012??

  • Using WAY too much data

Okay. So this is getting absolutely ridiculous. Every single month I'm apparently using over 14 GB OF DATA. There is no way. My cellular data is ALWAYS turned completely off and the only time it's on I only have 1 or 2 apps on. I'm always on wifi with no cellular data on and it's telling me I have used 14 GB already for the bill cycle ending the 21st and it is July 9th. Our bill is so much money and my dad can't afford it anymore this isn't fair we are paying soooooo much for something I'm not even doing. Nobody else on our plan even uses the internet or apps because it's just my grandparents. I can't even use my phone like normal people or enjoy my phone because it's telling me I'm using so much and I have everything turned off so if I don't find out what's going on we're going to AT&T or somebody else bc we can't pay this every single month and to be honest it's really starting to make me mad. Verizon Wireless Customer Support

Brookefernandez, I want you to enjoy your phone and not have to worry about anything. We would be sad to see you leave the Verizon Wireless family. So let's take a look and see what is causing all of this data to be used. What kind of device do you have? How many lines are on your account? On a normal day what applications are used the most on the devices? Please keep us posted.

  • Garageband 11: lagging or unresponsive interface; frequently crashes; and is using way too much memory

Since updating to the newest version of Garageband I've noticed a distinct slow down in interface and functionality; makes editing incredibly difficult having to wait 2-3 seconds after selecting a note or section; sometimes the whole app becomes unresponsive or just crashes altogether. It also completely maxes out memory usage (8GB!) My machine specs are below but I can't imagine why I couldn't run it. It boots up in about 5 seconds and before Mavericks I could run Logic, Garageband, MS Word, Adobe Edge Animate, and Adobe Muse without it breaking a sweat. Now it's running the fans at full blast using way more memory than is necessary.
    My Machine
The OS and Applications run off of a 120GB SSD and instead of an Optical drive I use a data doubler and a second internal (500GB HDD) for backups and extra storage - neither are anywhere near capacity.
Also, I'm not running any other apps, and even tried disabling network connections; no change at all. I do know that Mavericks uses memory differently (don't fully understand the benifit or how it works) but when I open Activity Monitor while running GarageBand it show's my "Memory Used:" at 7.99GB/8GB; but the pressure is still in the green. Could someone please explain to me how the memory usage differs now and why my machine needs to use all of the memory at once to run GarageBand when it is the only app open?
Why is it that 10.9 is substantially more taxing than 10.8 while claiming to be the opposite? What am I missing here?
    Please Help! :-)

    Since updating to the newest version of Garageband I've noticed a distinct slow down in interface and functionality;
Your question is a bit ambigious - the "Newest version" would be GarageBAnd 10.0.1, but the title of your question says GarageBand '11. Are you saying, you upgraded to GarageBand 10.0, but now GarageBand '11 (version 6.0.5) is having troubles?
makes editing incredibly difficult having to wait 2-3 seconds after selecting a note or section; sometimes the whole app becomes unresponsive or just crashes altogether.
Perhaps a crash log could help. Or error messages from the Console window. Does the Console.app show any diagnostic messages, when this hanging occurs?
and before Mavericks I could run Logic, Garageband, MS Word, Adobe Edge Animate, and Adobe Muse without it breaking a sweat.
Have all these applications been updated to the latest, Mavericks compatible versions? And all other non-Apple applications?

  • Droid Turbo using way too much mobile data

My Droid Turbo has used almost all of 2gb in the first month of mobile data. I am on WiFi 95% of the time and all I use mobile data for is google maps.
Anyone else see that the Droid Turbo is calculating WiFi data a mobile data?

You can also disable some of the more obscure apps that you do not use.  Big Data users are My Verizon, Verizon Cloud (use Google instead). There are quite a few and a list can be obtained as to which are safe to disable or not.  Then make sure your phone is set to only update over Wifi as well.  A lot of data usage is due to app updates.

  • Time Machine Craziness: Way too much data getting backed up

    Hello.
I'm on a retina MBP running Mountain Lion. Each time that Time Machine does a backup, it's backing up way more data than corresponds to any changes I have made. I'm aware of issues with virtualization software (I'm not using any) and I'm also aware that it will back up entire large files even if I make a small change to it (that doesn't apply here; I have not altered any files that even approach the size of backups being done).
According to Console, Time Machine is backing up much more than backupd is detecting in its initial scan. Here are a couple excerpts from the Console representing today's backups:
    8/3/12 3:28:37.450 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Finished scan
    8/3/12 3:29:12.480 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Found 2659 files (290.2 MB) needing backup
    8/3/12 3:29:12.486 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: 999.3 MB required (including padding), 141.67 GB available
    8/3/12 4:28:43.148 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Copied 20.37 GB of 20.37 GB, 7322 of 7322 items
    8/3/12 5:28:43.700 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Copied 40.06 GB of 40.06 GB, 9058 of 9058 items
    8/3/12 5:53:34.220 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Found 564 files (18.4 MB) needing backup
    8/3/12 5:53:34.228 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: 673.7 MB required (including padding), 95.99 GB available
    8/3/12 5:59:10.509 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Copied 274 files (1.65 GB) from volume RUBYEXS.
8/3/12 6:00:46.867 PM com.apple.backupd[4027]: Copied 7185 files (1.66 GB) from volume Macintosh HD.
I'm pretty sure this has something to do with files on my external hard drive. There may be some corruption in the Time Machine indexing that is forcing backups of the same files to be made over and over again even when no modifications have been made. In the Time Machine menu bar extra, I can see the backup size snowballing. It will say, for example, "backing up 2.4 GB out of 3.0 GB," and one minute later say "backing up 3.5 GB out of 5.4 GB" and just keep going up to as much as 60 GB.
Any ideas what might be causing this? I can provide more detailed Console logs if anyone is interested. Do you think I should wipe my Time Capsule clean and start backups from scratch? That's what I did when I got my rMBP a few weeks ago, but doesn't the Time Machine utility also need to be cleared out somehow so it doesn't look for the old backups? And what about deleting local snapshots? I don't mind starting from scratch again if necessary, but I want to make sure I'm really getting a clean slate.
Thank you to anyone who has ideas about this!

Use one of the apps in #A2 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to see what's really getting backed-up.
Also verify your internal HD and repair the external and the TM drive, to be sure there isn't directory damage.
If that doesn't help, try repairing your backups, per #A5 in the above link.
Do you think I should wipe my Time Capsule clean and start backups from scratch?
    Only as a last resort.
doesn't the Time Machine utility also need to be cleared out somehow so it doesn't look for the old backups?
No.  It looks at the last backup on the drive, then figures out what's been changed since then.  If the drive is empty, it just starts from scratch.
And what about deleting local snapshots?
No, they're completely separate and independent.

  • Adding assets to Windows Phone project takes way too much time !

So I'm trying to make a universal app for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1. Back when I was doing a WP 8.0 app it took an extreme amount of time to mark all my assets as content since when I drop in my compiled shader files (with .vs and .ps extensions)
VS doesn't know they are meant to be content so I have to do that manually.
I'm now seeing how marking just 4 files as "Content" in VS2013 in a universal app takes around 10+ seconds ! Is there an extension list somewhere so that when I add in the files they're marked as Content by default ?
Also, I might add that I have around 6000 shaders in my project and I tried marking about 1000 at a time, waited 10 minutes and it wasn't done ! (Visual Studio hanged !). It feels as though it tries to reload all assets in the project for every small little
    change.
    http://www.facebook.com/relativegames

Yes, I already know that the project file is an XML, the problem is 1) that I need to also add the "Copy Always" flag which is a child to the Content tag
    <Content Include="Shaders\DX11\4_0_level_9_3\UberShader_PS_-48991411.info.xml">      <CopyToOutputDirectory>Always</CopyToOutputDirectory>    </Content>   <Content Include="Shaders\DX11\4_0_level_9_3\UberShader_PS_-602767781.info.xml">      <CopyToOutputDirectory>Always</CopyToOutputDirectory>    </Content>
and doing copy-paste for 6000 items is not something I want to do all day and 2) We're in 2015 and all of a sudden IDEs are not useable anymore and we need to go to manual file editing because it takes 1 second to modify 1 attribute ?
Furthermore I would classify this issue as a VS bug that shouldn't go through QA, is there a public bug reporter for Visual Studio ? Take note that this issue existed for the past 2 years, ever since the WP8.0 SDK. I kind of thought that VS2013 or Update
    1 through 4 would fix this  :|
UPDATE : One more oddity that came up, I just added a couple more .cs files to a Universal App and for some reason my PC was running slow, then I found these processes
Were pretty much eating 80% of my CPU. The other devenv.exe is from a solution I closed like 10 minutes before.
I also noticed how if I change the source control plug-in to none, every time I open my Universal App .sln I get the Git plug-in again !

  • Using WAY too much power while sleeping?

I am completely sure that before, my 2008 Mac Pro was using 3 watts (give or take a few) while in sleep mode, which is why I've left it running day and night pretty much since purchasing it. (Power useage based on the digital readout on my "smart" UPS backup.) However, just this afternoon I noticed that it seems to be generating a considerable amount of heat, even when not in use, and my power bill has been abnormally high (like twice what it should be), and nothing can really explain that since virtually nothing else runs in the house for any amount of time. Needless to say, I decided to check the UPS readout while the system was asleep. To my surprise, 175 watts were being consumed while the system had been asleep for hours! No wonder it's been hot in my office, and why my power bill seems to have been going up considerably higher than usual! I've got a power hog sitting here running day and night consuming nearly full power 24x7! (Full power reads about 200 watts, displays off, at idle and 275 watts with displays on at idle.)
Any suggestions on what could have gone wrong that is keeping my system from taking a power nap? I really don't want to power it on and off day in and day out (it gets restarted as necessary). And the Apple Care coverage just ended several months ago. Ugh!

LOL Looking at the console may have answered my problem. It seems that the xrite device manager for my ColorMunki (screen calibration device) is going bonkers, trying to "start" itself every 2 seconds, give or take. But I thought for sure that I've uninstalled this software to use another application using the same device. Clearly, it forgot to uninstall something that is asking to start but no longer exsists.

  • I have seen numerous discussions as to jetpack data consumption.  My new jetpack is adding up way too much data usage.  What can be done about this?

Why is my jetpack recording an incredible amount of data usage?  I'm getting alerts on a daily basis.  All I do is read email and shop online.  What is Verizon doing about this?  I've used a data calculator and I shouldn't be using a third of what is being billed.  A lot of nasty stuff on these posts.

    > it was recorded that my jetpack used 13gigs in one day; this cannot be correct.
There is a common concern that many wireless users share on this subject.  Unfortunately VZW holds all the cards when it comes to the actual details on what happened resulting with your final billing statement.
The only thing we as consumers can do is try to setup monitors on our own and funnel our internet traffic through those devices/applications.  With a monitor in place there is a better chance that you can identify leaks and stop them before it makes it to your bill.
Keep in mind that data usage has nothing to do with what you are intentionally doing on the internet.  Data usage relates to what is actually happening behind the scenes.  If you, your neighbor, your dog or your toaster is online and consuming internet through your VZW device then VZW will hold you accountable for it.  Its similar to a hose that you turn on in your yard, a utility company doesn't care who did it, they only care that they sent XYZ gallons of water to your residence.  What worked well on your previous provider may not work well on VZW resulting in retries and increased usage for the same actions.
Don't get too hung up on the timestamps that VZW offers you in their alerts or reports. There are all sorts of examples where billing is delayed for various reasons. Use the timestamps as a clue, not as actual evidence that can be relied on during your investigation.

Has anyone else had an issue with either Mail or Preview getting stuck using over 100% CPU for no apparant reason. This has only happened since downloading 10.8.
With Mail, I can't figure out what sets it off. It happens occasionally when I'm replying to an email, but it doesn't happen everytime. When it happens I have to quit Mail to get it to stop.
With Preview, it happens on some pdf documents when I search for a word. After I'm done searching, the CPU percentage will be going crazy (!00-125%) until I quit the app.

Not a solution, but if the Podcast feed is dormant, why not unsubscribe?
As to the file structure for media on the device it is deliberately obscured as a countermeasure to casual piracy. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Content put on the iPod by a non-iPod aware product is going to treat it like any external drive. The iPod firmware won't read that media.

  • IPhoto 5.0.4 using way too much RAM - Help!

Hi there, I hate using iPhoto now. Everytime I use it it gobbles up around 300-500MB of memory according to top. This is real memory I am talking about, as listed in the 'RSIZE' column.
I only have 1300 photos and yet the program is barely usable. I have 1.5 gigs of RAM in my G5 and yet after using iPhoto I have 6 swap files in use for a total of 2 gigs of virtual memory paging files. It bogs down my entire computer and it frustrates the **** out of me.
Is there anyone else who has a similar sized library as mine and has these horrendous memory usage problems?
    Thanks,
    Graham

    Hi Graham,
There is a serious bloat and slowdown using certain cameras. these camera have large Makernotes that will bloat and slow down the iPhoto Library to a crawl.
Do a search in this forum for "Makernotes" and you will see what I mean.
