I Phone Locked with ITunes Logo & USB Cable only showing

I brought my wife an IPhone 4S yesterday and checked with the sales guy in 02 that I can run two accounts off the same laptop as I have an IPhone as well, which he said would be fine.
However the new IPhone required an updated version, which I downloaded and then the new IPhone locked up with the ITunes Logo and the USB Cable showing. Have tried restoring but it keeps saying it needs to download the newest version iOS 5.1.1 which takes over an hour to download, but I already have the newest version dowloaded.
Please help Very Annoying!

I would first try a reset of the device. To reset a device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. You may need to attempt this multiple times.

My Ipad has locked with Itunes logo and cable displayed on a black screen. Cant do anything

My Ipad has locked on a black screen with only the Itunes music logo together with an arrow and a cable white photo display. Turning it on and off achieves nothing, only the Itunes circle and cable appear each time. What can I do to rectify?

I uploaded iOS 7 and the ipad came up with a black screen with pictures of iTunes logo and power cord. It wouldn't turn off or respond to any actions. A terrifying moment. I followed some suggestions from these discussions, connected iPad to Macbook with iTunes open and prayed. It took 3 separate times to completely reset the iPad, because of several "errors" that would occur throughout the lengthy process. This necessity to completely reset my iPad (and it is very shakily alive now, I fear) was a direct result of uploading the new OS. I am furious. What is going on with Apple? I see this has happened to people for quite a while now. Good Lord.

Iphone 4 frozen itunes logo & USB Cable on screen - heeeeeeeelp!!!

Have tried to turn the phone on in recovery mode but to no avail - if I turn it off, as soon as I plug it into charge the itunes & usb cable signs come up on phone and I am sure it is not charging.
If I hold down the home key and plug into usb cable on computer (wanted to try and restore via itunes) same thing happens, apple logo comes up for a second or two and then the itunes & usb cable sign.
I had plugged the phone in via the usb cable to charge as the battery was low and the phone did sync with my computer, I deleted a couple of apps (children taking over my phone!) and I think itunes was trying to update when my computer deemed the update to dangerous so I cancelled it (thinking I'd unplug the phone pre any danger element!!!) - however, the itunes & usb sign was already there and has not gone since.
I have now updated to the latest version of itunes and tried it all again, computer works fine, albeit I still got the 'this software is potentially dangerous' message but ignored it.
Any thoughts (am loathe to run the jailbreak thingy that I have read about as presumably as soon as I start faffing with it, it will be out of waranty? It is only 2 months old!)

No - and as already answered, the iPhone is sold in the U.S. as carrier locked with at&t only. None of the iPhone functions work (with the exception of being able to make an emergency call) until the iPhone is activated with at&t. It has always been this way since day 1 and will remain this way at least for the next 4+ years or so. Apple signed a 5 year exclusive agreement with at&t for the iPhone sold in the U.S.
The iPhone is sold in the UK as carrier locked with O2 only, in Germany as carrier locked with T-Mobile only, and in France as carrier locked with Orange and Apple sells an unlocked iPhone in France at a significantly higher price. Selling an unlocked phone is required by French law but the unlocked iPhone sold in France can be used with GSM network providers in France only.

Phone frozen with itunes logo

My phone was connected to my computer via USB. Now it is frozen with the Itunes logo and a picture of the USB cord. I don't want to restore the phone because I don't want to lose everything on it. I have back up to iCloud, but I am not sure if I have new info that I wish to save. Is there any way to get it going?

Try plugging out your iPhone from your computer and hold both the power + home button until the phone power off and restarts.

Unit showing iTunes and USB cable only and iTouch is "frozen"

Here is how I cleared this up and got the unit working again after downloading and installing 2.2.1 and hosing up the unit. Some of these steps may not have been needed, but it worked for me!
Loaded iTunes to another pc (Windows XP). Opened iTunes and connected the unit via a usb and now iTunes did recognize my unit. My regular machine would not even do that! iTunes said a unit that was in "recovery mode" and you could not use it with iTunes until it was "reset". So I clicked on "reset" and got connected with the download on Apple and it started downloading the files necessary, it said. Found out later it was the 2.2.1 upgrade. Anyway after several hours the download finished. I then held down the "shift" key and clicked "restore" at the same time and a window opened and I had to search for the download which was in "document and settings, owner, application data, Apple Computer then iPod software update and there was the file. I opened that and it started working on the iTouch. After it completed, I moved the unit to my regular pc and it then recognized my unit and I hit restore again (I am a little hazy about this step because I got real excited when the unit was recognized, but if you get his far I think you can figure it out) and it set my unit back to it's old self. I then had to resync the music, applications etc.
So far everything is now working. If you have any questions, please yell. I have written this in a hurry and maybe some of it does not make sense.

When you see iTunes and the USB icon, you have to restore it. You may have to place it into recovery mode. Follow the instructions here if so.

HT6147 tried update now phone locked with itunes

I tried to update latest iPhone glitch from iTunes now it is locked and can't use phone. Screen reads itunes with the cord on it>

Connect it to your computer and Restore it in iTunes.

Iphone 3gs had screen with itunes and usb cable. tried to do a restore, said it cannot be restored, unknown error occured: error code 1013. I've tried several times, no luck.

I read on several sites where you go to windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts and delete gs_apple.com or something like that. I went there, there is no such file or anything with apple in it.
Any suggestions?

- If ou can turn the iPod off, then see if manually placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore. Next try DFU mode.

It sounds like you were updating your phone, and now it is unresponsive with an iTunes and usb cable on the screen. This appears to be recovery mode, and you should be able to restore the device using the following article to get that install completed:

To minimise loss... Connect to iTunes on the computer you Usually Sync with and Restore from the most recent Backup...

I have literally tried everything I know being someone who knows very little about technology. I also do not want to hear about how the update worked for other people. My phone has been in recovery mode for 5 hours at least now so it will just make me more frustrated if a bunch of people post about how the update worked for them.
