  • Transclucent back behind Phone, Mail, Safari and Music Icons

I am curious to know was the background Translucent on the 5S behind the Phone, Mail, Safari and Music Icons and grey on the 5? If it was translucent on the 5S now after the update it is not any longer it is like the 5 was or still will be like the 5 with a grey background on the area in question also maybe even in the category app boxes it was the same as well. If anyone can be of assistance and let me know if it was like that as I have a friend who sent me a screen shot of his 5S and it was translucent in the area in question.

After the update to 7.1 it will not be. I did my 5 and set the transparency off and it is not as greyed but it is no longer translucent/transparent as before the update. now it is as same as the 5S i have.

  • SMALL IPHONE ISSUES AS I SEE THEM: Phone, Mail, iChat, Safari, iPod

I love this phone; however, I agree there are some real opportunities for improvement in the software. Many of these (I hope) can be addressed with Software Updates, which Apple has used very well in the past.
    PHONE:
    1) While in a call I can see my contacts, mail, the net, music, but I can't see my RECENT CALLS. I need to be able to see this.
    2) CUSTOM RINGTONES would be so cool, but as some have mentioned, not while I am listening to music. If the phone can be programed to know when I am rocking out and fade out to a beep this would be great. Ringtones would be a major + at all other times when the phone is in any other app but iPod and ready to ring.
    3) VOICE DIALING would also be swell. I hope this can be addressed with software as the touchscreen makes the whole drive and dial thing a little unsafe. Voice search would be cool for iTunes too, as drive and decide on a song is not to easy on the touch screen.
    4) AT&T ***** if you live in the sticks (like me), but we knew this too.
Besides this, I feel the phone is amazing; but, when it comes to the bottom line, this isn't a phone, its a handheld computer that happens to also have cell phone and music capabilities.
    MAIL:
    1) I want to type in LANDSCAPE MODE in Mail like I can in Safari on the iPhone. It would be much easier to type with 2 thumbs this way.
All in all, mail is amazing, especially with it being covered under the unlimited data plan. Sending pictures this way is a big plus, but...
    ICHAT:
    1) I wish I could send photo messages to OTHER MOBILE DEVICES besides iPhones running full-fledge email systems.
    2) Again, LANDSCAPE MODE, lets get this incredible feature into iChat as well, as 2 thumbs really only works this way in my experience.
    3) AIM, AIM, AIM. Enough said... well, not yet; but soon I hope! Yes you can forward them from AIM, but with only 200 texts (standard) and a pretty steep upgrade for unlimited texts when we have UNLIMITED DATA, I thing we should get this; ESPECIALLY if we have to suffer with EDGE. I think AT&T should provide the support for this within our data plans.
    SAFARI MOBILE:
    1) WOW. Safari on iPhone is the real deal.
    2) ADOBE FLASH would be a cool upgrade, but there is still a lot of quicktime.
    3) Lets ditch the mobile site stuff (Bank of America is the one I have noticed). If I can look at the Apple and CNN websites like I can on my computer and even write a review of the iPhone from my iPhone on CNET, why won't sites like BOA let me see, for instance, how much I spent on the iPhone on the 29th on the REAL and MUCH EASIER TO USE SITE when I can look at the real versions of other sites. Well, on second thought, maybe I don't want to see how much I spent on this, but in the future it would be cool to track purchases.
    4) I wish I could use something like TABS on Safari (Apple Button + Click Link). It would be cool if I could hold down on the Multiple Window Button (Bottom right hand corner) and click a link and have it start a new page. We have multi touch capability: I've seen it, used it and loved it in Pictures, so lets get this going here too.
    IPOD:
    1) WOW (again)
    2) If I am looking at an artist, a genre, or a playlist even in standard mode and I flick it into landscape mode I have to see all of the covers in my entire library. This used to be a problem in earlier versions of iTunes so I hope they correct it so I only see the covers of the content in the selected list (artist, genre, playlist, etc.
    3) I wish I could scroll a little faster through coverflow sometimes, but this is small.
    4) I really, really wish that I could download songs from iTunes.
    5) Voice search would be cool if they do get around to voice dialing for the phone.
    OVERALL:
Apple got it VERY good. The device itself is gorgeous, the interface and the apps are genius, and how it all works to together is the best part. Really, Apple just needs to expand on the wonderful features (especially Landscape in Mail and iChat and Multi Touch for multiple windows in Safari), add some more apps (VOICE, AIM, FLASH, ITUNES), and fix some small oversights (especially the coverflow deal in iPod, because if I am looking at the classic rock genre and I switch to coverflow and see 2pac, its kind of weird).
    Really though, I love it.

I agree with you and I just posted a few other items titled "what's missing"

  • Is there a way to remove Exchange global address list from phone/Mail app?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.3. Wondering if there is a way I can prevent an Exchange global address list from loading when I compose a message. I am only syncing Mail - not contacts or calendars. Also tried dropping and re-adding account to see if that did anything. This is a personal phone connected to company's Exchange account (legitimately) - I would like to reduce the chance that I incorrectly email a company employee from my personal account when composing a message.

That is what I expected Chris, but to answer your question - yes. I have two accounts setup with the Mail app - Gmail and Exchange. Gmail is the default even. When I am in the Gmail account, compose a new message, just typing "john" for example, brings up most recently used john's first, then all the Johns in my company. I really would prefer not to even have those names populate. Not sure if that can be prevented without dropping the Exchange mail account altogether. That is my question - and thank you for your reply.

  • I-phone Mail Settings? please help.

I haven't bought an i-phone as yet, need to end my contract with verizon which ends in June, and I am hoping by then they will have a 32 GB model..... In the meantime, I have heard that one can receive e-mail on the phone, but not send it out, unless they are at home using their wifi connection. What's the point of that? Also I keep reading that yahoo and g-mail have problems. Can someone tell me if an actual .mac account will work better, because it's an apple product. Thanks

Regarding sending problems - this depends on the email account provider and if the provider has an authenticated SMTP server.
Most ISPs (internet service providers) do not have an authenticated SMTP server.
Most, if not all ISPs, block the use of SMTP servers that are outside of their network (or not provided by the ISP) unless the SMTP server is authenticated.
For example - if Cox is your ISP, and you are using an email account that is provided by Cox, you will not be able to send a message with your Cox email account unless you are connected to the internet with Cox. If Cox has an authenticated SMTP server (which I don't believe they do), you would be able to send a message with Cox's email account regardless the ISP used for connecting to the internet - via any Wi-Fi network or when connected via EDGE.
This is not an iPhone problem. The same applies is you have a laptop with a wireless card used for connecting via various Wi-Fi networks with an associated ISP that is not Cox.
I access my .Mac account (personal) and a business POP account with my iPhone. Both accounts have an authenticated SMTP server, and I have yet to experience any problems sending with either account regardlesss the Wi-Fi network used or when connected with EDGE.

  • I Phone Mail at Night

    Hi there
Just got i phone 4 yesterday - love it.
But with my old Nokia I could tell it not to retrieve e mail from 9pm to 9am - I don't want to get woken up by spam at 3am!!!!
Is there a similar setting or app with an i phone?
If there is, I can't see it.
    Grateful for help.
    Thanks
    Ian

That's not a bad idea MPBAMB.
I have it already set to fetch every 30 mins rather than push to conserve battery life.
If I set that to "manual" before bed, it would do the trick - thanks.
Unless anyone has any other ideas???

  • Replace phone mail problems

Apple decided I needed to get my iPhone repaired so they sent me a new loaner to use while mine is 'in the shop'. It was easy to change the simm card and sync the phone but sending mail is failing. When I first go my iPhone I didn't have to fill in any passwords, Mail just worked. Now I have to fill in passwords and I'm getting dialogue boxes that say I have the wrong password or that there is no recipient when there clearly is a recipient.
    Thoughts?

    Thanks.
Actually the password didn't make a difference. It just took time before it just started working.
I had to laugh because one of the reason I send my iPhone in for repair was the iPod would start playing music after a call. It's supposed to do this when you are listening to music but if you are not listening it's shouldn't play.
Well the loaner phone does the same thing. What are the chances?

  • Block the Windows Phone Mail App on 8.1

    Hi Guys
I have asked this question in the Windows Phone thread, but need to find the answer as quick as possible.
Is there a way to block Users using the Mail app for personal mail on their corporate phones managed by Microsoft Intune?
I need to allow users access to the store using their LiveID so that they can download Lync etc. But it seems it creates a Mail App with their mail although app deny rules are in place for anything not whitelisted.
    thanks in advance
    NN

    Thanks Jon.
I am in a catch 22 at the minute if I have this correct. Please do let me know if I am on the wrong track.
Blocking LiveIDs means blocking Store access; meaning deeplinks dont work, nor does sideloading apps like Lync. Allowing LiveIDs gives access to download apps but seems to allow personal mail, although I can deny apps it does not seem to deny personal mail. Now
LiveIDs on a whole need to disabled, but it has got me wondering about the feature with personal mail.
If I can deny personal mail, I can have Store access restricted by applisting using deeplinks for ease and no personal information/mail will be available, a happy medium.
I have heard that new identity features are coming later this year (which you also posted on), but for now I need to find closest to this standard as possible.
The one thing I am not overly familiar with yet is the OMA features and whether that has the ability to block this feature via a string?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    NN

  • Integrating I-phone Mail with my Imac mail....

I would presume this is a setting issue, but couldn't find the answer in the manual. Wondered if there was a setting on the Iphone that would allow the mail to sync automatically with what is showing on my IMAC computer. Right now I'm having to delete all the read / un wanted email off both my Imac, and my Iphone.....but it would be nice if it had a similar update like my powerbook does....where it adjusts my inbox / deleted / sent mail to mirror my home computer. Let me know if Iphone can do this.
    Thanks

If you account is set up as an IMAP account on the iPhone, it should happen automatically. How did you create the mail account on the iPhone?

  • Workaround to No "Select All" Functionality in Phone Mail App?

Has anyone come up with a workaround to the lack of a "select all" option in the iPhone Mail app? Right now, if you are presented with a long list of unread messages, your options are to either read each and every one of them individually, or delete them individually. I was wondering if anyone had come up with either a workaround, or solution provider, in this area. Yes, I have submitted the suggestion to Apple to include this functionality in the future. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Yes, which takes seconds. Or after reading a message you want to delete, delete it then with a delete selection - trash can icon at the bottom of the message.
With a significant number of habitual whiners here, I can see the number increase if Apple includes a select and delete all option for any other mailbox except for an account's Trash mailbox that is available now which some would inevitably do unintentionally by accident and then complain - how could Apple do this - I lost all my Inbox messages that I didn't want deleted.

  • Mail stays on my phone even when it is deleted from server

I am using a POP server. On all of my phones that I have used before the phones mail software would keep the phone mail contents same like the server, so when a mails gets deleted from the server it would also be deleted from the phone. But my phone is still keeping these mails even though they are not on the server anymore, and the mail storage usage is increasing and increasing. Is there any way to keep the server contents and phone contents same? Am I missing some setting or something else? (am using 4S with IOS8.1.1)
FYI: I am using Outlook and have set it up not to delete the mails from the server before 10 days (thats a convenient time frame for a managable amount of e-mails) So I expect to see the last 10 days e-mails on my phone and nothing more. When Outlook deletes the last 10th days e-mails from the server, they should also be deleted from my phone when it connects to the server and doesn't see them.
Thank you for your time & help.
    Kerem

My computer tech guy helped me figure it out ...but to answer your question...Yes, in fact changing the password did some how change the setting to default to imap.
    Here are the steps:
    1) recreate the acccount by choosing 'other''
    2) the account automatically defaults to IMAP
    2) enter an incorrect password AND change the host name from imap to the appropriate pop address
3 )this then prompts a 'pop' option
    4) enter the correct password and save
computers / phones have very strange brains...but I'm just glad it worked.
