I Photo - all pictures gone!

Several weeks ago I had trouble in that all pictures would show up only in edit form. I kept trying different albums, turning the computer off, etc. to no avail. Finally I got out my I Photo 5 Missing Manual, p. 362. First I rebuilt the library - still the same. Then I repaired the permissions - still the same. Then I threw away the preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist. Now my library is empty. Please, please help me!

Hi Iwy,
did you change the name of your iPhoto Library at one time? Is your iPhoto Library folder in your Pictures folder?
Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed. When asked if you want to create a new library or open another library, choose to open another library. Navigate to your iPhoto Library folder and choose it. Hopefully your images will show up.
Get back with results.

  • Uploaded pictures to iPhoto but computer froze and I did a force quit - now all pictures gone!  Help!!

I uploaded pictures to iPhoto library, I was attempting to share one picture (out of 350!) and computer froze for over 5 minutes.  I did a "force quit" and when I reopend iPhoto all pictures were gone.  The library shows the events I created but when I click on it, there are no pictures.  Please help!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

All I can do is open then one at a time now and that's no fun. Any ideas as to what is up????

    Hi artboy,
You can try launching iPhoto with the Option key held down and choose to open another library. Navigate to your library, highlight it and click "open" Hopefully it will open your library.
When you launch iPhoto holding down the Option key this is the window you will get.
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library if that is what you want to do, or choose a library to open by clicking the "choose" button.
If you click the "create library" iPhoto will open with a brand new library for you to import images to. If you click "choose" then you will get this window.
    Open library
Navigate to where the library is on your computer, highlight it, then clcik the "open" button.
If it doesn't open or still shows no photos you might have to create a new library and import the photos from the old.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and highlight it in the window, then click the "open" button.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
If you have a recent backup of the entire iPhoto Library folder then drag the old iPhoto Library folder to the desktop and rename it iPhoto Library_old. Drag the backup iPhoto Library folder (make sure it is named iPhoto Library)
into the Pictures folder and launch iPhoto.

  • IPHOTO LIBRARY FOUND IN TRASH. RESTORED AND ALL PICTURES GONE

I have iphoto 2011 installed on my imac. I had thousands of pictures installed and my imac is relatively new so I did not do a Time Machine backup or copy my photos. Unfortunately my iphoto library was in the trash and when I start iphoto it says 22 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported.Would you like to import them now? When I click yes it says: The photos have been placed in the folder /Users/USER/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_453.
I have a white page document on the desktop titled iphoto library (which I recovered from the trash) and when I click on this iphoto opens and starts to import and immediately iphoto stops running.
When I select the Macintosh HD hard drive and go to the USERS then PICTURES folder it shows 461 file items and they al say iphoto library revocered photos but when you click them they are empty.
When I select the iphoto library in the Pictures folder then select MASTERS folder it shows three photos in the entire 2011 folder.
Are my pictures just not being opened correctly by iphoto and they are somewhere else or did I lose them all but three? I have used 124.64 GB and have 875.22GB remaining.
    Please help? IMAC 10.6.8

I am not 100% sure what you mean by the iPhoto window because there are a lot of iPhoto files. Which window (sorry there may be only one). If you tell what steps I can tell you exactly what's there.  In the iPhoto page on the desktop thereaid a file and if I am not mistaken it says it is 4GB in size. I have no idea how my photos disappeared and how to get the iPhoto library back. When I click on the iPhoto library, iPhoto opens and then goes to force quit. All other folders (main) have files that say restored but they are empty when I click on them. I think the photos are still there  because of the size of the file but I do not know how to get iPhoto to see them now. Im sorry I do not know more, I may have to take it to the Apple store to see if they can help because I'm pretty new to the MAC world.

  • Software update disturbed and all pictures gone. can i restore them?

iphone 4s was updating its software and in the middle of backing up the data, someone took out the phone from the plug. mostly all of my pictures are gone. can i restore them?

THis is pure BS!!  How can Apple not code for a potential failure in a backup procedure?  What are they thinking, that everything works perfectly and never a glitch in any system?  I am in the process of backing up my pics, and they innocently ask if I want the new OS.  I say yes thinking it is a 2 minute process, they completely wipe everytthing off my phone and I don't even think I got the upgrade.  I am so ****** off I can't even look to see what version I am on.
Please don't tell me I should have backed up... That is what I was doing when Apple wiped my phone data.

  • During the transfer to i-photo all pictures missing

Today i transfer my potos from the card to i-photo. One photo was wrong an all Datas are lost. Whow can i find my picutres on the mach

    We need more information
    Like what version of iPhoto?
Did you tell iPhoto to delete the photos (you should never do that - always keep the photos and properly disconnect and wait for one or more backup cycles then use your camera's reformat command to erase the card)
You may have to use data recovery software like media recover - http://freshcrop.com/ - the free download will tell you what it can recover and you must purchase to actual recover the photos

  • ALL pictures in iPhoto *and* PhotoBooth are gone :(  please help

    Hello,
I have a bit of a dilema here. On 6-27-07 (actually 6-28 cause it was after midnight), my daughter and I were taking pictures in photobooth. I selected the iPhoto icon from the PhotoBooth picture to send a copy of those pictures to iPhoto.
PhotoBooth froze up after doing several of them and wouldn't work. I am trying to remember from memory (which is swiss cheese from the MS), but I think I had to do a hard shut down. When I tried to go to iPhoto, it acted like it was my 1st time using it and it began asking me questions as if I was setting it up for the 1st time. ALL pictures are GONE. Everything in iPhoto and PhotoBooth are GONE I don't know what I did or how (if I can) to fix it.
Can anyone possibly help me? Lots of precious memories gone. I was recently going to read how to do a back-up right before this happened. Now I wish I hadn't gone to sleep that night until I learned how to do it and actually did make a back-up
My husband called Apple and they told him to do something and now that has created approximately 3 copies of random pics and not all of them, or I would just delete the extras. My husband may have done something wrong to have it make extra copies of the pictures it has now, I don't know.
My husband didn't seem like he was happy with the help that he was getting at the time. So, I found my way here again!!! I have been to the discussions boards once before, but I forgot how to get here (serious swiss cheese memory from MS). I have to save ALL websites that I like to my favorites or I should say 'Bookmarks' or I will probably never find it again. <embarassed>
**I will tell you a little about me and the use of my mac....... I have Multiple Sclerosis so my husband purchased the lap top to make it easier for me to get online and not be stuck to one chair which makes me hurt bad. I am new to Mac and have always used a PC.
Anyway, when we purchased it we explained that I would mainly be using it for Internet use and for the pictures that I take (I am disabled, so that is about all I can do but I thoroughly enjoy it), which happens to be more than the average person since I have a new Grandson
Any help that anyone can give me, I would TRULY APPRECIATE!!!!!!
    Thanks,
    New2Him

    Brenda,
    You're quite welcome.
That does sound like your original library. It makes sense to me; your husband was probably told to drag it to the Desktop by the Apple help desk person. Look inside your Pictures folder for the other two iPhoto Library folders. If you don't find them there, do another Finder Search. Click once on a found item in the Search window to see its path at the bottom of that window. That should help you locate those folders.
After you find and rename or delete the other libraries, you will be ready to create a new library. (You might not want to delete those other folders yet - in case some photos are missing from your main library. But if you are sure that nothing in them is original, go ahead and Trash them to free up the space.)
To create a new library, Option-launch iPhoto and click "Create Library." By default it will be located in your Pictures folder and named "iPhoto Library." You can change the name if you want - say, "iPhoto Library New" before you click "Save." A new, empty library will open. Drag the right corner of the window up so that it fills only about half of your screen. Do iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced and make sure that there IS a check in the boxes beside "Copy files to iPhoto Library folder when importing to library" and "Add ColorSync Profile".
On the other half of your screen, open a Finder window. Set it to column view and navigate this path: Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Originals/ 2007/ (Film Roll folders). It is these Film Roll folders that contain your photos. Select all of the Roll folders and drag them as a group over the iPhoto window until the cursor shows you a green plus symbol. Drop them in the main viewing area of the iPhoto window. iPhoto will indicate to you that it is importing. A film roll will be created for each folder that you dragged. [Tip: if you want an Album to represent each film roll, then drag them to the Source Pane (left column) instead of the main viewing window. This will create an Album and a film roll, both with the same name as the imported folder.]
I have read that the film roll date can be wrong after importing, so you may want to check the dates as you go. Open the Info Pane in the lower left corner of the iPhoto window (click the little i). When you select a Roll, its info will display in the Info Pane. You can edit the Roll's title and date, if you wish.
When the 2007 rolls have all been imported, switch to the Originals/ 2006 folder, select the roll folders, and drag to your iPhoto window. Repeat for each year in your Desktop library.
This will recover your Original, unedited photos in the same film rolls as before. What cannot be saved is your Albums, Slideshows, Books, titles, keywords, ratings, and other metadata. These were contained in the database file that was damaged during the iPhoto hang or subsequent hard shut down.
If you had spent significant time editing your photos, then you may want to have a look in Desktop/ iPhoto Library/ Modified to see if you wish to save any of the edited versions. There is no way to reconnect the edits with their Originals; that info was also stored in the database file. But if you want to import them to your library you may. Be aware that this will cause the appearance of duplication, much like you had in the library your husband created. If you can part with your edited versions, then it is much easier to discard them. (If not, be selective.)
I'll look forward to hearing your progress. Regards,
    Shelly

  • Have just updated phone with latest update and all my photo's have gone to internal storage. How do i get them back in my camera roll

Have just updated my phone with the latest update and all my photo's have gone to internal storage. how do i get them back in to my camera roll so i can view them on my phone.

Pictures are not designed to be kept in the Camera Roll... that is simply temporary storage for when you are taking pictures.  Try reading this and this to see if it clears it up for you.

  • I am moving all my iphoto pictures to seperate folders outside of iphoto.  I have found iphoto slighlty cumbersome.  After I move all pictures from iphoto to a separate file how can I delete all the iphoto photos without deleting the ones in the file?

I am moving all of my iphoto pictures into seperate folders becuase iphoto is great, but a bit cumbersome when I need to transfer all the pictures to a external drive.
    1) After I move all pictures, how can I delete the iphoto pictures without destroying the ones I have in files
    2) how can I ensure that I have sucessfully captures all the iphoto files so when I delelte from iphoto I have not forgotten any
    3) is there a way to determine what duplicate pictures I have?
    Thanks!

If you Control click on the iPhoto Library, you'll see a list of folders - one named "Masters". Inside of this folder are all of your original, high-res photos. You can copy them to other folders if you like.
You can't delete iPhoto pics without deleting the ones in the iPhoto Library.
You can copy all of your Masters pics out of the Library, ensuring that you won't forget any.
I don't know of anyway to determine if there are duplicate photos - most (if not all) have a unique name assigned.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

How can I move photos from pictures to my external hard drive? I have copied all photos, however it won't allow me to paste the photos.  The paste button is grayed out.

Do you want to copy some pictures to the external drive, or do you want to move your whole iPhoto library? The latter will free up hard drive space on your start up disk; the procedure is explained here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2506
Note this is not the same as a Time Machine backup.
If on the other hand you want to copy some photos from one drive to another, you can just drag and drop them from one location to another. This is a true copy, the originals will remain intact.

  • Unable to view photos in iPhoto, although all pictures are still accessible via Finder?

Last week, I was trying to import some pictures from a USB flash drive. During the import, I got an error that some of the pictures were corrupt and iPhoto '08 7.1.5 stopped the process. At that time, iPhoto still showed all my events and pictures correctly.
The next day however, iPhoto was completely empty and did not show any event/picture. It simply says 'no photos' at the bottom (in Dutch):
None of the rebuilding features solve the problem (iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library).
Via Finder, I'm able to access the iPhoto library (and I only see 1 library at the location) and view the master files all sorted per year. All pictures open perfectly when I double click them in preview.
If I simply try to drag these pictures to iPhoto, I get an error saying that they are unrecognised/unreadable:
How do I get these events/pictures back in iPhoto?
    Thanks for your help!

It appears you'll haver to do the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1. Open the library package like this.
    2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note:  your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

i hooked up my iphone 5 c to my computer to download my photos onto my computer and instead it downloaded all pictures on my computer to my phone and ipad in the photo gallery and now I cannot delete them. please help

Sounds like you synced the photos instead of importing the photos.
In iTunes with your device plugged in, go to the photos tab and uncheck the photos that were synced over, then sync again. This should take the photos from your coputer off the devices leaving just the camera roll.
If you have a Windows computer, go to mycomputer and right click on your device and select import pictures and video. If its a Mac computer, plug in your device and go to iphoto and select import all.

  • Photo Sharing in ios 6 shows all my photo streaming pictures

I decided to test the photo sharing feature in ios 6. I created an album and sent it to myself and was horrified to see that not only could I access the test album, but ALL my photo streamed pictures were available for viewing. I created another album, sent it to a gmail email account I have and had other same issue.  Next, I created a third album and send the "public sharing" link to myself: it didn't show the third album but rather the previously created second photo stream album, even though I had already deleted it.
I never had this problem with MobileMe.
    ANy suggestions?

I just did the same upgrade with my 3GS.  I am having a similar problem.  My contacts are on the phone now, but my music and apps are not.  When I try to restore the back up this is the message I get:  itunes could not restore the iphone because a session could not be started.
I see my my music and apps in my itunes library, but if I try to autofill it to my phone I get this message:  itunes cannot add any songs to the iphone because no songs in library can be copied to the iphone.
    Can you help?
