I photo cannot be found

Help guys
I have just purchased a MBP and a I Mac the MBP was from apple and the I mac from a apple store
question the mbp has i photo on but the i mac does not both are on leopard, where do i get i photo from?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If they are new machines it will be on the System Restore disks that came with the iMac. Just go to install the bundled software. Other than that, as all new Macs come with the iLife uite, go back to your vendor and get him/her to install it.

This is the iPhoto for iOS forum.  You should ask in the Mac iPhoto forum.  iPhoto for is OS only on version 1.

  • Iphoto 6 "photo cannot be found,etc.

Somehow about 300+ of my 3400 photos now have been lost except for the thumbnails that have been degraded from 2272 X 1704 pixels down to 1/4 of that. They can only be viewed in Preview - can't e-mail or anything else either. I kept getting the msg. "the volume for 105-057_crw cannot be found or "photo cannot be opened because original item cannot be found". Many times trying to view a thumbnail in a folder with that conflicting number I would get a different photo.
Backup can't be done because I get those messages a million times b4 I can burn the library. The photos with duplicate i.d. numbers (probably from different cameras) are now gone after doing the rebuilding.
I guess the only thing left is repopulating. Can anybody advise - will it help or likely aggravate?
In short Iphoto has really screwed me up. I brought a lot of this over from windows (canon program) and now have lost a lot of new pictures. A lot I didn't like about the PC but this stinks.

    Hi CM -
Not sure that this will solve all your problems, but I wanted to pass along a discovery I had (posted previously on another thread, but I thought it closely enough related to repost).
I was receiving the consistent error, "couldn't find DSCN####.JPG". The files in question were there, could be found using spotlight in the find file dialog and otherwise, but iPhoto would not accept them. I was able to open them using other apps, duplicate them, repair permissions, etc etc so on and so forth.
Stop. Look. Listen. The file name being identified by iPhoto was "....JPG", and the file name was actually "....jpg". I manually changed the case on the file tag to "JPG". iPhoto now accepted the file. Repeat. Identical performance.
After doing about as many as I could stand this way I made sure changing the case of the filename before the tag didn't make a difference (or at least sure enough for me, YMMV). Then I got Automator to Rename Finder Items - Change Case. On the entire Data folder.
Came back in the morning and it was done. Ran thru the remainder of the Upgrading Thumbnails task that iPhoto was running. Had to tell it which file was which on a random selection of files -- was quicker just to select the file it wanted than to try to figure out why it couldn't find them for itself. Once that was done, my library is all better.
Computers are such dandy labor-saving devices.

  • Missing photos - cannot reconnect - found in mov file!!

Using Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.0 on Windows XP Pro
Everything worked fine for some time, then error message appeared when trying to print or attach photo to email.... "Searching for missing file". There are about 30 photos that are "missing" although they can be viewed in the album. Tried the "Reconnect" feature but it cannot reconnect the missing files. Searched for the names of the JPG photos and they do not appear in the list... cannot be found. After some research discovered that they were all in an MOV file named "Picture054.MOV". Any idea how they got put into MOV format??? Or how to put them back into the album as JPG photos??
    Thanks

These are precious because they are 3 years worth and some family members are no longer with us! PLEASE HELP!

Basically, I had to do a factory restore and the PICS file was NOT under an "XP User Acct" so the files were not saved during restore and were lost! When I re-installed Adobe 3.0 the THUMBNAILS appeared, but of course the file "location" is missing as is all the actual pics! It says one file must be connected to open. Can you help?

  • Original photo cannot be found

Im getting the above error on most of my photos. I can see them fine but if I try to drag I get the error. If I put a new photo into the library it happens. I didn't have this at all on the previous version of iphoto.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A +Managed library+, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
A +Referenced Library+ is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • In iphoto I get the mesage "The volume for [picture] cannot be found"  What does this mean?  I can see the pictures

iphoto message is "The volume for this photo cannot be found."  I can see the pictures but cannot move them?

The "volume" is referring to the picture's location, i.e. hard drive, etc. In any case there is an iPhoto forum where those experts are. Post there.

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • I'm getting the error message "Photos folder syncing has been disabled for the iPhone my iPhone because the folder "Pictures" cannot be found."

I'm getting the error message "Photos folder syncing has been disabled for the iPhone <my iPhone> because the folder "Pictures" cannot be found." lately.
Normally, all I do with photos is move them from my iPhone to my computer's (Windows 7) hard drive. I do this by connecting the iPhone with the cable, a box pops up on the screen asking me what I want to do, and I choose "Import pictures and videos". I've previously selected the "delete photos from the device after move" option (or however it's worded...), simply because I don't want this device to fill up with photos.
Lately, it has been importing the photos fine, but it won't delete them from the iPhone. This used to work just fine, now it doesn't work and I don't know what changed, if anything. In iTunes, I get the error message I list at the beginning of this message.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi there scarbo59,
You mentioned that you are still able to import without issues, but you may still want to run through the troubleshooting steps outlined in the article below.

A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Unless you have the source files that were on the TC or Windows machine you will have to start over with a new library as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.  Your original library will remain intact for further attempts at fixes is so desired.

iTunes: Photo sync creates iPod Photo Cache folder
Restart your iPad. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears.

      Windows XP

The same problem exists with the German Windows version of iTunes (7.1.1.5).
    The error message says nothing!
I wasted a lot of time checking the photo files but there was nothing wrong.
Then I monitored the hd-access to find out WHAT a file is missing: it seems to be about the cache files of the program that isn't orientated right about it's own files!!! It seems to be a big fat bug!!!
The hint here really helps but it also means that all compressed files will be deleted and compressed again. That takes hours of time and lots of GB temp-space on the drives.
I think Apple should deliver a bug-free version of iTunes as soon as possible. And Apple should talk to the customers for that they must not waste their time because of bugs in Apple software.
    Will Apple read this?
I can't find an email-adress to send it directly to apple.
