I photo help

In trying to load i-photo I got this - `To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared" - so I did it.  It made no change.  I now get the same message.  Any ideas?

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I created a photo album on my iPhone 4s - edited photos etc. but I cannot figure out how to transfer it to my pc (using Windows 8).  The only folder in the iphone drive is the one which has the Camera roll photos Help please - I really need the photos!

The camera roll is not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing these photos to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera.  Youc an organize them on your computer and sync the to the iphone if you wish.
The photos sync from the computer to the iphone is one way.
The iphone mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.

  • Camera Raw - saving photos- help!

I edit my photos in camera raw, and after clicking "done", I save my photos in another folder on my computer. This has never been a problem until recently. When I go to that folder to open the photo, the photo is somewhat blurry, grainy, and the color is not at all what it looked like when I saved it from camera raw. I have been trying all day to figure out where I went wrong.  I have tried saving as pjeg, tif, psd from raw  - opening to PS and saving different ways from there - exporting instead of "saving".       ----  because this is something that just started yesterday I am wondering if there is something I clicked by accident in camera raw to make this happen. PLEASE help!!! thanks so much!!

The small pixilated preview image sounds like a thumbnail embedded by the camera and the full-res preview is not getting updated and it used to be.
How are you saving your photos after you click Done and how are you viewing those photos after they are saved?  Are you creating copies of your raw files as JPGs and looking at those, or are you expecting the embedded previews in the raw files to change after clicking Done in ACR?
Do you save ACR edits to XMP sidecar files or to a central camera-raw database.  This is in the ACR preferences, somewhere.

  • HT4623 Recently updated my iphone 5 with IOS7 and lost all my photos - Help!?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone might be able to help? I updated my Iphone 5 with this IOS7 update a few days ago and seem to have lost all my photos.  I tried a 'Restore' and then 'Back up from restore' in itunes but the phone kept going round in circles.  It kept asking me [on the iphone] to select either 'Set up as new phone' or 'Restore from icloud' or 'Restore from itunes back up.'  I chose 'Restore from backup' every time and just as I thought it had finished, it asked me to do the whole process over again.  This happened several times.  In the end I chose to 'Set up as new iphone' and then I was able to do a restore but the photo's never appeared.  I did get all my Apps, Music and Contacts back on the phone.
I spoke with Apple today and they seem to think I didn't do a backup before updating to IOS7.  Normally my itunes automatically does a sync and a back up when I connect the phone and I will get a warning message to prompt me if not. I've searched for the photo's in my Pictures folder on my lap top but they are not there. I don't use icloud [don't quite understand it but I'm getting there!] and the Apple advisor checked my Apple account and couldn't find any of the photos there.  I've even tried to download a program to scan my phone for lost items but there's still no photos showing up.
Have I lost these photos for good or is there any way of getting them back?
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks
    Jane

Just to add to my enquiry above...
I have downloaded a couple of these programmes which say they can help scan for missing photos.  One of the programs scanned my itunes and found photos from a back up this August.  I could see quite a few photos on there [the ones that I'm missing] but these programs only let you down load 2 files [photos] unless you register with them i.e I will have to pay.
So why isnt this back up for August showing up in the list 'restore from back up'  when I'm connected to my itunes??
Its so frustrating knowing that the majority of the photos I'm missing are actually still there somewhere.  Why do i have to pay another provider to get them back??

  • IPhoto 6.0- Trying to Delete unwanted duplicate photos:::: Help???

Recently, I downloaded all my photos from my desktop to an external hard drive in an effort to bring them to my MacBook. The problem is that I had about 5,000 pictures and when I downloaded them and know on the MacBook I have 20,000. Some how, many of the photos were duplicated and even triplicated (if that's a word- Ha Ha). In any event, I'm wondering if there is a way to have iPhoto sort out all the duplicates so I can delete them.... I have searched help to no avail and can't find any easy solution. Not even sure if it's possible, but it would beat the alternative of going through and deleting one by one. One last thing....the duplicates are not even next to the original. They are sorted all over the place. They also have the same photo #. Can anyone help?

Just throw what you have done away and start over
Connect your external HD to your old computer and drag the iPhoto library form the picture folder (default location) to the EHD, connect the EHD to your new computer and drag the iPhoto library on the new machine to the desktop and drag the old iPhoto library from the EHD intact as a single entity to the pictures folder of the new Mac and launching iPhoto on the new machine - there is no importing involved
Once you have tested and are happy with the iPhoto library on the new computer trash the iPhoto library you drug to the desktop

  • Photo Help Please

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question...newbie here. Yesterday, I loaded 400 pictures on my ipod so family could see my honeymoon photos. I then went back later to add pics of my wedding and when I did...I lost the original 400 I loaded. I was like the last ones loaded over the top of the original 400. Is that the way that it works? So, everytime I load pictures...I also have to save the original ones and load them again with any new ones I want to add? Does it work the same for music too? So confused!
Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hey!
400 honeymoon photos's??!Did you get chance to do anything else hahahaha : )
Sounds as though you created another folder and then synced to that, which then erased your previous content on the pod.
Whatever folder you have your latest photo's in,add the 400 to it and re-sync.This will get all the images on the Pod.Whenever you add or remove images to this folder and re-sync that is what you will have on your Pod.
    Cheers,

  • Aperture and iPhoto Duplicate Photos - Help Please

    Hi,
I've recently moved to Mac OS from a PC and in doing so copied over all the photos from my PC and backup drives, flash drives etc with the intention of clearing them all up using iPhoto (or Aperture which I have just purchased from the App Store). There are A LOT of duplicates in the library now.
I realise after reading some of the posts here that I may have made a terrible mistake as I thought I would be able to easily organise my photos and delete duplicates which are taking up valuable disk space (I have almost 30,000 photos including the dupes).
I've read through a lot of the posts here and it seems most of these photos will now have been duplicated again by iPhoto and that there's not a simple solution to get rid of all the original dupes to free up some disk space.
Can anyone offer some help (bearing in mind I am fairly new to my Mac).
    Many thanks,
    Paul

For a quick solution to weed out the duplicates that iPhoto created you could use the keywords that Aperture sets on the originals and duplicates during the import. Have a look at the keywords in the Metadata Inspector panel. The exact name of the keyword depends somewhat on the image format that you import.
In my library I see the keywords: iPhoto Original, iPhoto Externally Edited,iPhoto Converted, iPhoto.
If you just want to keep the originals, that you imported into iPhoto and get rid of all the other versions, do the following:
    - create a smart album "keep" by defining
keywords include any of the following:  "iPhoto Original"
(and optionally "iPhoto Externally Edited", if you want to keep your edits)
    - create a smart album "delete" by defining
keywords do not include any of the following:  "iPhoto Original"
(and optionally "iPhoto Externally Edited", if you want to keep your edits)
Then select all of your pictures in "keep" and flag them,
select all of your pictures in "delete" and reject them,
open the "rejected" album and have a look, if it contains any flagged pictures, if not, trash the rejected pictures.
That should take care of plenty of your duplicates.
    Hope that helps a little

  • IOS 8 Photos Help!

Like I really needed more stupid folders in my photos and NOW I can't find the stupid folder that had ALL my pictures. There is one that shows recent photos but where is the one that shows all the photos?
And I don't need a folder that shows deleted pictures like HELLO I deleted them for a reason.
Anyway to change this crap back to the way it was before? I tried to delete folders but I can't!
Please if you can help I would be greatly appreciated!

Agreed its ugly and a feature that no one asked for. My Roll app is pretty nice and far nicer to use since apple changed theirs. Heres to hoping they realise the mistake!

  • Multiple Libraries - Can't view photos - help!

I created another library so that I could organize my personal photos from work photos. I imported all my photos into the second library, named it differently from the original IPhoto Library. I can view all these photos just fine. I looked up in the help section how to switch back and forth from library to library. However, this doesn't work. I cannot view all the photos from my original library. When I go to the finder/pictures, I see the original folder and everything seems to be there.
I searched through the topics looking for this problem. I saw a lot of problems that were similar. I've tried holding option/shift/command and choosing the library. When I choose the original library I can see all the album folders that I created but there are no pictures in any of them.
I also tried to rebuild but that is not working.
How do I get these photos back into the original library so that I can see them in IPhoto? I am using IPhoto6. Thanks!!!!!!
    Michele

Yes, it looks just like that. However, I don't always get the "choose library" option when pressing the option key when opening IPhoto. For some reason, I have to move the IPHOTOLibrary to the desktop (or another folder) to be able to choose the library that I want. After choosing my original library (IPhotoLibrary) it then loads all of the albums/folders that are located in the left of the window. It just doesn't load the photos in them. I haven't done anything to the original folders that were created in the IPhoto Library either. They have been left as they were originally created.

  • Updated iPhoto to 9.2.3, lost majority of photos - help!

We updated iPhoto as recommended by Apple to version 9.2.3 and immediately had trouble with no photos showing in iPhoto.  The photo folder on the Mac drive is empty, and was the primary location for storing and accessing photos. After finding the iPhoto backup library on the My Book external drive, I imported and only recovered 1,000 of 10,000+ photos. The recovery files are dated with photos from 2005 - 2009, and nothing from 2010 to present.  It also required me to update the iPhoto library file upon import, something which I expected would automatically occur as part of the application update.
I am running an  iMac with OS X 10.6.8.
Already tried to rebuild the library by launching iPhoto and holding command/option.  No new files were recovered. Any tips/advice is much appreciated to help recover 4 years of family memories!
Frustrating to see the continued degradation of Apple's competive advantage: seamless interoperability and ease of use.  The iphone synch with itunes is a whole other discussion...
    Thanks,
    Scott

Terrence: thanks for taking the time to reply. Here are replies to your questions:
    Pictures folder = yes
Back up historically performed manually to My Book.
Wife performed the iPhoto update yesterday and did not back up prior to update.
Why did you not restore? = new version of iPhoto not able to find or recognize the iPhoto library on the Mac drive. When launching iPhoto application after the update, and the application is attempting to pull from the Mac drive database, it is a never ending spinning wheel of white dashes as if searching but never finding.
Why import from the backup? = Since no photos will load from the Mac drive database, I attempted to restore from the backup on My Book as the source
Clarify the 'update the iPhoto library file' = when attempting to import the iPhoto library backup file from My Book (after the above sequence and failing in attempts to load from the Mac picture database), iPhoto required the My Book iPhoto library file to be updated, or reconfigured (can't confirm the exact language here), before proceeding.  It was definitely a separate prompt and process from the app update.
Why are you mentioning crash reports when there is no mention of crashes? = after the initial post, I went back to my attempts to relaunch iPhoto and it crashed multiple times. Thought I would add in this thread (10 minutes later) in case it was helpful to someone assisting to resolve these issues.
Certainly not looking to editorialize, but I've been using Mac products since the Apple IIe.  By no means an expert, as you can see by my problems here , but the reality is that the proliferation of peripherals makes it increasingly challenging for the average tech user to navigate compatibility, synching devices, etc.  Heck, I had to spend $1,500 on a new iMac just to get my iPad funcational a couple of years ago (my Mac Mini didn't support a current OS to run an iTunes version needed to activate the iPad).
Not hating, I'm an unabashed Mac lover (9 devices and growing).  Also not ignorant to the challenges that developers and us 'tech users' face in the real world.
Thanks and again I truly appreciate your input!

  • XML to display photos - Help!

Please help... I would like to use an XLS document to display
XML data, but I only want one record displayed at a time. I want to
use a button to refresh the page with the next (or previous)
record. This is for displaying photos and accompaning text. Can I

    </bphotos>
    Thanks

It is all in that tutorial. So if you don't understand it, read it again. Fiddle around with the code there and see what it does. And also, try to get the "using SAX" requirement removed and see if "using XSLT" is any easier.

  • Icloud not syncing photos HELP

Since one day my iPad New Gen isnt syncing the photos that I take with my iPhone, I researched information and the configuration of my icloud and my devices is correct. NOTE: I have the folder of PhotoStream but no with the new ones... Can someone help me PLEASE!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try disabling photo stream on your device (settings > iCloud), restarting your device and then re-enabling photo stream.
If this doesn't help you may need to reset photo stream. You can do this at icloud.com by clicking on your name in the top right corner and then the advanced settings in the pop-up dialogue box that appears.

  • "Copy Selected Albums" Option Grayed Out for Synchronizing Photos--Help!!

I purchased a 60GB Video iPod a week ago. I cannot get it to sync my photos. When I select "Synchronize photos from iPhoto," the option to "Copy all photos and albums" is selected and the option to "Copy Selected Albums" is grayed out. If I try to sync all the albums, I get an Error -50. I can, however, copy & sync photos by selecting my Pictures folder (either all folders or selected folders). But, that won't give me my photos organized by album in iPhoto.
I rebuilt the iPhoto database and deleted/trashed preferences. No help. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Apple has been no help and I have searched and searched these forums over many days, with no success.

I had this problem after I imported a bunch of photos. I narrowed it down and found that two of my pictures had the word "photo" in the filename, example(photo003.jpg and photo004.jpg). I deleted these files and the "copy selected ablums" was available again.
    Hope this helps!!
