I-Photo Library: How to move a Iphoto Library from 1 hard drive to another?

The hard drive that I have my I-Photo library on is running out of space and is my
start-up drive. I want to move the i-photo library from the start-up drive to my storage drive which has plenty of storage space. My Machine is G4 desktop having
OX10.5.8 operating system.I would like to know how to do this. I tried searching for i-photo library Manager but could not find it

Simply:
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the Other Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

how to move my iPhoto library to a new iMAC?

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network, Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • IPhoto 9.6: How to move your iPhoto library to a new location?

    Hello,
How do I move my iPhoto libraries from my system disk to a data only disk in iPhoto 9.6?
I followed the instructions on this support website titled " iPhoto 9.5: How to move your iPhoto library to a new location."
However, this only appears to have copied the libraries, not move them.
According to what I see in Finder, I now have the same library on two different disks, but that was not my intention.
    Thank you

So, delete the one from the unwanted location.
When you move data across volumes by default it is copied to the new location, afterwards you delete it from the previous location. It's a sensible protection against dataloss of anything goes wrong with the copy.

  • How do i remove a place from hard drive places menu

how do i remove a place from hard drive places menu?

Yes, I saw that Carolyn. I should have included that in my previous post. I asked the person who did the change for me and had no new information to provide. He said he only did the normal change of information to receive and send POP mail. He did nothing else that should have affected the mailboxes. In fact, he made the same changes to his own Macbook Pro and had no loss of emails from his mailboxes.
So, what it boils down to is a simple question that may not require a simple answer, but my guess is there is a simple procedure to restore a mailbox's data from the Users folder on the hard drive. If the info is gone from Mail, but still on the hard drive, then it would stand to reason that we could stop focusing on what caused it to happen (especially if we don't know), and just make an attempt to Restore it - if I could find someone who knows the procedure to restore a mailbox.
It may require a trip to the Genius Bar if it so complex that no one here has experience with it. I would think that from time to time people have to restore the mail box.
Thanks so very much Carolyn for all your interest. If you know anyone who could restore mailbox, please see if they would offer a suggestion as to the steps to do so.

  • IPhoto read from hard drive

All my photos are on an external hard drive. Can't iPhoto just read the files on that drive rather than copying them to another location and calling it a library. Seems dumb to have copies of all Mt work at a secondary location.

Can't iPhoto just read the files on that drive rather than copying them to another location and calling it a library.
It can, but you might not want it to.
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
This is an attractive option for some users at face value, but it contains a significant number of issues that you might want to consider before making the decision to run a Referenced Library
    How to do it:
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck the box at 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'
Now when you import iPhoto makes an alias in the Library Package that points to the stored file. Note: iPhoto still creates a thumbnail of the image and it makes a Preview of edited photos inside the Library Package.
    Issues?
    1. You are responsible for file management. That's more work:
You must first move the files from your camera to the storage location before importing.
If you want to delete files then you must first trash them from iPhoto and then afterwards find them in your storage and trash them.
Thereafter, you cannot move the files on early versions of iPhoto at all, on iPhoto 08 and later you may move them on the same Volume or Disk. If you move them to a new volume or disk the aliases my break. If they are on an different volume and you move them the aliases will break.
    You cannot rename the files.
Migrating: moving to a new machine, moving the files to another disk are all a lot more complex.
    2. You gain no extra functionality from running a Referenced Library. Nothing. This is just storage. You still manage the files via iPhoto. You edit them with iPhoto or via iPhoto's External Editor setting, otherwise you're changes will not be available in iPhoto. You don't save  byte of storage space.
    3.  If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the alias will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
Why do you want to run a Referenced Library?
Because my photos won't fit on my HD?
You can run a Managed library from an external disk. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
You're worried about accessing the files?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • How to install arch 2009.08 from hard drive? Please enlighten me

OK, I admit I am impatient for the installation from the CD drive. Whenever possible and whatever distro I wanna try, I head first to try to install it from the hard drive. I don't remember how many times and how many distros I have done the same to, ubuntu, zenwalk, sidux, fedora, opensuse and of course arch. It rarely failed as long as I followed someone's guide, sth like "install any OS from hard drive", I do not exactly remember. And I did the same in the past with arch. But after 2009.08, it simply didn't work. I've read the article "fast install arch from existing linux system" in the wiki, it didn't work either (by the way, if someone can solve my problem, I think the article should be updated). After it boots, at some stage, it says "Use Hook [archiso]", then tell me "waiting for /dev/archiso for 30 seconds ..." then when the time due, it throws me into a ramfs shell. I've hacked for a long time, but no luck. Then I went back to download the 2009.02 iso, however, it works flawlessly.
I did find some differences in the menu.lst/isolinux.cfg between two version.
    In 2009.02, we have
title Boot Arch Linux Live CD
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 usbdelay=5 ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd /boot/archiso_pata.img
    While in 2009.08, it is
title Boot Arch Linux Live CD
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 archisolabel=ARCHISO_AHCOHH6O ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd /boot/archiso_pata.img
I know I can install arch from usb, but I simply wanna know what's wrong here, so guys, if you have any idea, don't hesitate to enlighten me.

Hi, vacant, thanks for the reply. I did not notice you are the author of the article. Actually I missed the head of the article which directs me to another (the amalgamated one you mentioned). I take a look at it, it seems to make things complicated. I still miss the old days: you simply download the iso, mount it and copy all the contents into a separate partition, edit your current grub, then reboot and everything works. I don't understand how Arch could be so evolved to exclude this simple installation scheme. I am not complaining the development of Arch. In my opinion, a distro as flexible as Arch should provide as much installation strategy as possible. In this respect, I think we can learn from Ubuntu or sidux (in sidux, it provides a very convenient kernel parameter called "fromiso" which allows you to install sidux from the plain iso, that means, you even don't have to mount it and copy the contents out of it to a separate partition).

  • How to move my iphoto library

    Hi
I need to get some room on my Macbook and want to move my photos to an external hard drive. I have iPhoto '08 7.1.5.
a step by step explanation would be great.  How and where to create the new library, how I actually move my existing photos there, etc.
    thanks much

Select the drive you want to move it to in the Finder and choose Get Info from the File menu. Check the format. If it doesn't start with Mac OS Extended, you need to use the Disk Utility to erase, repartition, or create a disk image on it. Note that disk images on a FAT32 partition must be smaller than 4GB.

  • How does one move iTunes (& iPhoto) to external hard drive?

How do I move iTunes and my entire iTunes database to an external hard drive? What folders and files do I need to move? Do I need to create a "music" folder on the external drive? I have an enormous music collection -- some 700 CDs -- and I would like to have them all in my iTunes database, but there is not enough room for them all on my MacMini hard drive.
Similarly, I would like to move my iPhoto database to the external drive. What folders do I need to move?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iPod 80 Gb

Thanks - I had a look and they are both there on my external HD, the same name, size and date as on my computer, so that's ok, I must be backing them up as you say.
But, they don't have the same icons - the XML file is described as a "REALbasic XML project" instead of "Text document", while the iTunes Library file doesn't have the iTunes logo, and is described simply as "Document" and not "iTunes Database File". Does that matter? Will it matter if I ever need to restore from them?

  • HT1751 How to transfer iTunes media files from external drive to another external drive and bring in the library from the main drive.

I have my iTunes media on an external hard drive while the library is on the main computer drive. I want to move both to a larger external drive. How do I get both together? When I consolidate, it only transfers the media files. Help.

Since I already consolidated, can I just move the library to the root level of the external drive then option click to point to that library? But using that method, all the media files are at the root level along with the iTunes folder. So nothing will be in the iTunes media folder itself. WIll that work?

  • How do I move my OS files from one drive to another on a Mac Mini server

My main drive on my Mac mini is dying so I need to move all my files, including the OS, to the other drive.  Do I just copy all the files over then delete the old ones and reboot?

The disk that was the "Lower" is the one you cloned to. When you clone, the name of source disk is copied with the contents to the target disk.
The lower HD is the one closest to the bottom of the Mini.
http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+Mac+Mini+Late+2012+Dual+Hard+Drive+Kit/11 713Thus if you cloned the bad drive, the bad drive is in the lower location.
This says how to replae the lower drive.
Are both drives identicatal drives (except for SN)? If not maybe y could comfirm by that.
Also, how was it failing? The If it SMART errors you can tell in there are any SMART errors idenfied for that disk in Disk Utilty.
Further, if you go to Disk Utility and click on the HD itself, not Server HD, that will say upper or lower in bottom left

  • How to move all app data from one user to another? (One mac)

Hi. I've been having this problem for a while. So recently, I've made a new account for myself, since I was using my mom's user account. I don't want to keep all of my files, emails, and icloud on her user, since it's used by everyone in my family. I use iMail now because hotmail blocked my email because "Someone hacked me" and they kept it locked for all these months, and I can't give enough proof to show it was mine, since I forgot every email I've sent now.
And iMail is pretty cool, adding your own rules and stuff. Except you don't need a password to log in. I just deactivate my iMail via system preferences as a log-out, and then re-activate it as a log-in.
    So, back to the question.
How can I move ALL app data from my mom's user account to my new one? Her acount also has pictures of our germany vacation. So not every file.
You see, I game on my mac mostly because steam is really complicated, using internet just to play a game that doesn't need internet and stuff.
And steam doesn't have a lot of casual games.
So I want to move my game data, save files and every little piece of application info that my games have on my mom's account to mine. I've asked this question on Yahoo answers, and all I got was an answer of "File IS data, or datum itself, You are wrong. I cannot give you an answer." -.-
I'm not experienced with terminal either, so I'll need a ton of explanation of how to use it if that's how it can be done. It really really confuses me and I'll just give up.
    Thanks in advance.

  • How can I reinstall iphoto on new hard drive?

Original purchase came with iphoto installed.  After hard drive crash new hard drive does not have iphoto app.  Anyone have any idea how to reinstall without having to purchase?  Had to install original OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard

    reinstall from the original source
    Could be
1 - the restore disks that came with the computer - if it came with CDs and you do not know where they are then contact Apple to see if they can be replaced = probably your case
    or
2 - the iLife DVD that you purchased
    or
3 - the app store - log in under the Apple id used to purchase the software or to set up the computer - look under purchases - you might have to unhide or accept the Application first

  • How to move files after installing new hard drive

I am considering the installation of a new 80 or 100 GB hard drive. I purchased the new iLife 06 program but I do not have enough space to install on my present 60 GB unit. I only have 3 GB available. I've read all the posts involving the possible brands, downloaded the instructions how to swap out the units. My question is how to backup and install my files and applications so I may reinstall onto the new drive. Can I just copy my hard drive volume onto my external Lacie storage unit and then drag the volume back to the new hard drive after booting off my OS disk? Any advice on how to move my apps and files? Do I need to purchase cloning software?

The easiest way is buy an external firewire enclosure and put your new drive in it. Then format your new drive. then use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy your internal drive onto your new drive. Then install your new drive and put your old one in the enclosure. You are now in business with an external backup on your old drive.
