My imac will now not open i photo. I have tried to relaunch i photo on the imac , it says loading but nothing happens.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Thanks TD - I did try your first option, but got the same error message. Unfortunately, I did not fully explain at my first attempt. The error message is :-
You can't open your current library using this version of iPhoto. You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto
The Macbook is loaded with Snow Leopard, iPhoto '09, 8.1.1 but the iMac is loaded with Leopard, iPhoto '08, 7.1.5
When using the Macbook to access iPhoto library on the iMac a question was asked. I cant remember the exact words, but it was on the lines of :-
Do you want to up grade IPhoto?
to which I answered - Yes.

iphoto photos not opening get black exclamation mark when open thumbnails

Not sure what you meant by "missing till" but all of the photos and movies are there. I concluded that searching for several photos by their file name and then opening them with Preview.
I'm pretty certain that I only used the Picasa desktop app to test using the Picasa web service for some family photos. I don't think I used it to edit any photos in the iPhoto library but I suppose it's possible that I did without really thinking about it.
Why to I have tiffs?  - As far as I know I don't. They are all jpg or mov files. I can't imagine why that error dialog said I was missing a tiff.
I just noticed based upon your suggestion to review the package contents. I have folders for Modified and Originals which I've seen before. But I also have folders for Photos - Modified and Photos - Original. I haven't seen those last two before. Moreover, all but 6 of my latest photos are in those last two folders. iPhoto can show me their thumbnails but can't open them. iPhoto can open the 6 photos in the "Original" folder. I didn't notice that before because they represent a very small portion of my library and I didn't select the right photos.
iPhoto Library Manager could see only those 6 photos in the Original folder. There are none in "Modified". So iPLM obviously can't see the photos in Photos - Modified or in Photos - Original. Looking at the Info for these two folders, I see they were created on January 7, well more than a month before I downloaded Picasa. Somehow all but 6 of my photos got moved to these new folders. I must have done something to cause this but I have no clue what.
Sorry this is so long but usually details are important. Do you recommend that I use the Merge Libraries function in iPLM?
    Thanks!

  • Lumia 625 - Photos not opening... :(

I had an 8GB SD card in my phone. When it filled up, I transferred everything onto my computer. I bought a 64GB and moved everything back onto it. But none of my photos are opening. When I open camera roll, all I see are grey squares. I even factory reset my phone but to no avail. The photos and videos appear on my computer but not the phone itself. Does anyone know what's wrong?

Were these photos shot with your phone camera? Not sure if this will solve the issue .. but try it..
Go to Lumia Camera-->(...)-->settings .. and tap on 'Find photos and videos shot with Lumia Camera' at exreme bottom ..

  • Why do cimg photos not open?

After transferring iPhoto library and combining it with another library many photos are duplicated AND many won't open ... CIMG and PICT photos open as a black screen with a triangle and an exclamation point is in it.  How do I recover those photos?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

  • Raw Photos Not Opening

    Hi.
I am using an Apple  Macbookpro, shooting with a Canon EOS Rebel T5i and trying to open RAW photo's  in Photoshop CS5. I have tried various updates as per the suggestions in these topics, but no luck, same message  from Photoshop saying:
"Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information."
Any suggestions on what to do?

The Rebel T5i was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 7.4
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
ACR 7.4 is only compatible with CS6 apps and later - not CS5.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
    Your options:
    Upgrade to CS6
    Join the Cloud
Join the Photoshop Photography Program for $9.99/month and get Photoshop CC + Lightroom 5 + extras
Buy Lightroom 5, convert to DNG then edit the DNGs in CS5
Convert the T5i Raw files to DNGs using the free Adobe DNG converter then edit the DNG files in CS5

  • IPhoto photos not opening up elsewhere?

I transferred my iPhone photos to my Macbook Pro and now they show up in iPhoto but I would like to know if I can actually access the folder and see the pictures in for example Preview. I wasn't able to find it by searching them in the Spotlight.
If not, are there other methods to transfer photos and possibly videos to my Macbook Pro by actually being able to access the folders of the files.
    Thank you.

If you prefer not to use iPhoto you can transfer the pictures using Image Capture. If iPhoto is opening when you connect the phone, you can quit iPhoto and manually open Image Capture. You can make Image Capture open automatically by first open in iPhoto and on the menu named iPhoto click Preferences and then General and set "Connecting Camera opens:" to Image Capture.
If you later decide you want those photos in your iPhoto library you would need to use the iPhoto File menu import.
If you want to move the photos already in iPhoto to standalone files you can select them in iPhoto and the use the iPhoto File menu to export them.

  • Imported photos not opening

After importing a photo from from email and closing i-photo, when I reopen i-photo I can't open the photo - it shows as an exclamation mark in a triangle - any tips?

That happens when iPhoto loses the link to the actual file.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • How can I make Photos not open every time a photo card is inserted?

    Hello,
Every time I insert an SD or CF card or even my iPhone, Photos opens up. How can I stop this from happening? I looked everywhere and I can't find a solution, thanks.

Go to Edit> Preferences. Under "Import Options" uncheck "Show import dialogue when memory card is inserted".

  • I PHOTO NOT OPENING FULLY

Had a software problem and took my powerbook to apple store where it was completely wiped clean and reinstalled all software ..... now when i open i photo
the pictures wont open fully and remain unclear as if they are were taken with a
1 million pixel camera you can see the pixels ie squares in the pictures ....some open ok but mostly they open in very poor quality ....they were all taken with the same camera on thre same settings any ideas

    David:
After reinstalling the software did you create a new library and then imported photos from your old library folder? It sounds like what you're seeing are thumbnail files that were imported as full size files. Check on and see what the size and dimensions are. Do you have the original library folder anywhere? If so then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, navigate to that original folder and select it to open. See what you get then.\

  • Photos not opening all images on n8

hey, i just updated my phone to symbian anna and i'm really fond of how the upgraded OS looks. however i seem to have a problem with photos, since for some reason not all images seem to be showing there. i just sent a picture by bluetooth from my laptop and the only way i can view it is through filemanager. there seems to be no way to refresh images and video library.
i would really appreciate any ideas on this matter
    best regards

i uploaded Anna onto my N8, and couldn't see any photos on the memory card that were visible previously. they are on the card in the correct folder, i can see them through filemanager but not the gallery view.
new photos taken get saved to the same location, and ARE visible in the gallery view
so I did the now traditional switch it off, switch it on again routine, and now all is well! it would be so much easier just to tell us that!

  • I am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Photo gallery popups will not open in firefox, but does in internet explorer

In the last few days popups within a website will not open. IE photo gallerys, logins for internet banking.
It seems to be a problem only in firefox as they will open with internet explorer

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
