I-photo source list

I have just bought a new Mac: I transferred everything successfully from my Powerbook. However when I open i-photo there is no source list visible: and when I upload images from my Ixus: it uploads them but then I can only see those: it is as if the source list last roll selected: I'm sure that there is an easy keystroke to reveal the source list: but there is no mention of this in the tutorials or anywhere else: any ideas?

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Photos tab is not selectable in the source list iPod nano

    Dear all,
Could you please help me out? I want to import photos on my iPod nano (3rd generation). I want to do this by dragging a folder to the iPod in the sources list in iTunes, but I do not succeed.
The 'photos' tab does not appear when I collapse the 'iPod' in the source list in iTunes. What is wrong?
Thank you for your answer (in advance.)

*I want to do this by dragging a folder to the iPod in the sources list in iTunes, but I do not succeed.*
You can't add photos the same way as you add music, you have to choose the folder in the photos tab.
The 'photos' tab does not appear when I collapse the 'iPod' in the source list in iTunes. What is wrong?
The photos tab isn't in the source list, it's one of the preference tabs that appear in the main window when you click on the iPod icon in the source list.
Here's a simple "How To" on downloading photos from a folder on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the folder you just created
2 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
3 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
4 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
On a small device like the 2GB Nano I would tend to leave the "Include Full Resolution photos" box unchecked as these will take up a lot of space on the iPod and are only useful if you want to copy photos from one computer to another. iTunes will add "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view.
iTunes will add "optimised", small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view. if you want to include full size photos so you can move them from one computer to another check the "Include Full Resolution photos" box. When you want to change the photos on the iPod you simply add or remove the photos you want from your iPod Photos folder and sync the iPod.

    What instructions?

You don't import photos from the iPhone to your computer using iTunes.
See this -> iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
Note this only applies to photos taken with the iPhone. Any photos you previously added to your iPhone using iTunes should be copied from old computer to new computer.

  • Photo stream is showing up in iphoto recent but not web and I am not able to join the shared photo stream.  all of my software is updated.  can someone tell me how to get photo stream in the web source list? thanks!

Can someone help me get Photo Stream to appear under Web in the iPhoto Source List? I have updated all my software.  iPhoto 11, Mac OS X 10.7.5  All of my preferences are checked.  I am able to see the shared Photo Stream on my iPad, but not my Mac.  The Mac iPhoto photos from the shared photo stream are appearing in the Photo Stream (under Recent), but I thought they would appear as a shared Photo Stream in its own file/album (like on the iPad and iPhone)  - labeled with the shared Photo Stream's title.  Is this supposed to happen on the Mac?  Thanks!

So you are saying for it to do what i want: shared photo stream to appear in web then i need to upgrade.
    Yes
Does that mean i purchase the new software an it's not just an update?
    Yes
Your profile indicates your running 10.7.5.  For shared Photo Streams you need to be running 10.8.2 or later: The following is from  iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What do I need to use Photo Stream?
To use Photo Stream, including Shared Photo Streams, you need an iCloud account, compatible devices, and up-to-date software:  iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 6.0 or later Mac with OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 or later and iPhoto 9.4 or Aperture 3.4 or later
So you'll need to upgrade to Mt. Lion.
iPhoto requirements are free updates for iPhoto '11

  • No Source List, No Events List - no way to view stored photos

Hi, When I open iphoto, I see a gray screen and the only photos visible are the ones I downloaded in the last session. There is no tab for "events," no source list, no libraries tab, no way to access any previous events and photos. They are in there somewhere, because when I download again, photos that were stored on the cameras after they were previously download are listed as "duplicates."
First, why is this happening, and second, if anyone knows how I can gain access to my thousands of previous photos, how can I ensure that the "Events" tabs and Source lists are always visible? Help!
Thank you for your assistance, Mac geniuses!

I have just spent the last 4 days trying to figure out where the menu went. I have rebuilt my libraries several times. Gone back in the time machine, etc.. I was blaming my new installation of Snow Leopard and iPhoto 09. Boy do I feel dumb ... and thankful that I finally found your post.

  • Adding photo to iPhoto 9.2.1 slideshow reorders Source list

    Hi All
I have made a slideshow (100 photos) in iPhoto 9.2.1 and being careful duplicated the slideshow.  I then added more photos to the duplicated Slideshow source list only to find the slideshow re-orders the list of photos.  I've never experienced this problem before.  Quitting and reloading doesn't stabilise the Slideshow.
I managed to add another 8 by adding 1 then couple at a time.  But now trying to add more just 1 photo re-orders the list.
I've also turned off the music.
I never had a problem with 100+ slideshows with iPhoto before.  Apart from trying to change the lead photo which would cause iPhoto to freeze.
Anyway, has anyone else experienced this issue and can anyone suggest a way around this ?
    Thanks so much.  JJ

  • No Photo tab under source list for 3rd generation ipod nano

I have a 2nd generation ipod nano and recently purchased a 3rd generation ipod nano. I have the latest version of itunes, however, there is no photo tab under the source list. How am I supposed to import my photos?

I am a brand new ipod user and I have not been able to find the summary, music videos and photos tabs. I have gone into every tab up on the Itunes tool bar and poked around but still can't find it. No such page opens up when I connect the nano. Can someone please help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a way to alphabetize events as they appear under 'Photos' in the source list?

When I click 'Photos' under the source list, I can see all of the events as I labeled them. Is there a way to alphabetize them by name? It looks like that are in order by the date they were created. I've tried everything and can't figure it out, so any help would be appreciated.

    Hi Larry,
thanks for the quick reply. I was able to alphabetize them in event view. I guess there's no way to alphabetize them in photos view?

  • HT201317 I can not view my shared photo stream.  Does not show in source list. Help!

I cant view my shared photo stream from my source list.  This is preventing me from adding or removing photos.  Any ideas?

Log out of iCloud in the System/iCloud preference pane and disable Photo Stream in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.  Then log back in and re-enable, respectively.  That should jump start Photo Stream in iPhoto if both devices are signed in to the same iCloud account..

And it seems you must do this every single time the shared photo stream is updated, ie. photos added/removed.  this is pīss poor.

  • How do I get rid of the calendars in the source list?

I don't want Iphoto automatically organizing my photos by year, and I don't want to see the last four years depicted as calendar icons in the source list, and I don't want an item called "early photos' in my source list. How do I get rid of these unwanted items/features?
Many of the photos I'm importing have, over the years, been edited and their original photo dates are no longer valid in GetInfo, so iphoto's automated feature causes chaos upon importing.

    Hello autochthon,
The side bar which contains some of iPhoto's built in organizational tools like "Last Import" "Last 12 Months" "Early Photos" is part of the iPhoto program and cannot be removed.
The items you mention appear under the sub-category "Recent". You can click on the disclosure triangle to hide those features from view.
By default iPhoto arranges all images in a chronological fashion, however you can sort your photos in your events in a variety of other ways: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iPhoto/8.0/en/6291.html.
For those that don't like any of the sorting options available, putting images into Albums is often a good route to go. Once you put your pictures in an album you can then drag them into whatever order meets your needs within that Album.
    Hope that helps.

  • IPhoto Library won't show up in Source List.

My most recently updated iPhoto library is located on my main hard drive.  Other older libraries are on a couple of external hard drives.  When I close iPhoto, reopen and hold down the Option key, I am able to choose which library I want to use.  I do so, but the most recent library will only leave the source list on the left of the iPhoto window with no photo.  What do I need to do to 'connect' iPhoto with this library of photos?  iPhoto 9.2.3

Sorry for not explaining fully.  On the source list, everything under "Library" and "Recent" is populated with the photos as they should be.  It is in the "Albums" list where all albums are blank (without the photos).  That is what is puzzling.  Anyone with a solution?

Start here.  Is ti normal and expected for the computer to also see the iPod as a comera since that is how you get saved photos from the iPod to the computer.

    Hi,
I've just come back from a holiday with my camera, ipod and camera connector and I want to transfer all the photos I loaded onto the ipod into iphoto. From what I have read, it seems that the ipod should automatically appear in the iphoto source list... but this never seems to happen with my ipod colour (4G) and iphoto (5.0.4). I'm hoping its just a simple thing I've overlooked... can anyone help me out?
    Thanks,

Hmm, seems somewhat intermittent. Plugged the ipod in this morning and iphoto recognised it fine. Resolved.... for now!
