I photo trash emptying

I'm new to mac and new to iphoto. I imported a whole load of pics into iphoto and have spent some time and effort into getting them into the right locations, editing etc. I now find I have 700+ photo's in iphoto trash (intentionally) that are mostly duplicates that I imported from my previous system, or are unwanted copies from my editing efforts. It may seem a stupid question, but if I empty the trash can will I loose the copies of those photos that are held either in events or albums? I'm terrified of doing just that.

Yes. There is only one copy of a photo in the library. Any versions in albums, books, etc. are just virtual links to the original. So if you delete a photo from an Event all versions of it will be deleted from the library. If you delete a photo from an album, book or slideshow it is only removed from that item, not from the library.
So If you have versions of those photos in items like albums then drag those photos onto the Library icon above the Trash icon to move them back to their original Event.

OK, here are a set of screenshots with my step by step - maybe you will be able to spot where I've gone awry:
I find a photo in the Library that I will delete from an album:
I go down to my Albums and find the picture in one of them:
I hover over the pic so the little down arrow appears in the bottom right-hand corner. I click on it, then click on the Trash Can in the window that drops down:
    Gone from the Album:
    Gone from the Library:
    In the Trash:
    Whaddup with that?

In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-C, or select
              Go ▹ Computer

Why would you think that? You will only lose the photos you have sent to iPhotos trash yourself. And you have all your data backed up anyway, don't you?
    Cheers

  • IMAP trash emptying on its own

I've searched for anyone else having this issue to no avail.
I have setup a folder called iPhone Trash on my Mail server. I assigned it on my iPhone as the trash can and set that IMAP account to NEVER delete messages. It properly drops the message in that box when I delete it and I can see it on my web-based mail client.
The issue is, every day or so, that box empties out. I haven't set any special rules on my server to delete messages from this box. I have the proper setting on the iPhone not to delete messages. Why is this trash emptying?
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Thanks for any help.
    Regards,
    Clay

I have exactly this problem. My IMAP trash folder used to have 1000+ messages in it (i'm lazy and never empty it). Within 1 week of purchasing my iPhone this was down to just 50 or so messages. I assumed I'd mistakenly hit empty on my computer at some point.
Today I've checked and trash only has 30 messages in, the oldest is from 1 week ago (5 days after I started using my iPhone). So to me it looks like the iPhone is somehow killing off messages in trash older than a week.
I access the same account on my PC using outlook 2007, and also over a web interface. I have done so for some time with no problems. I have to conclude it's my iPhone doing the deleting then. I have been running 1.1.2 ever since I got the phone. It is set up to never remove deleted messages (although it looks suspiciously like it's running with the "remove after 1 week" setting).
Not a major drama - I have deleted these messages after all! But an interesting quirk.

  • Where is the photo trash?

    NEW PHOTOS QUESTIONS
    Where is the photo trash?
    What is pre-trash?
Any way to see the “info” below the photo (as it was I iPhoto) without needing to turn each picture over one-at-a-time?
Any way to see the number of photos in each file/folder/album. Is the ability to “hover” over a folder to the see number of photos gone.
What is the Adobe file in Photos, takes a lot of disk space. Can it be dumped without losing master pictures?
    <Re-Titled By Host>

1 - File menu ==> Show recently deleted - they are automatically deleted after 30 days form there
2 - no idea - where do you see that?
3 - no - tell Apple your needs
    4 - no - tell Apple your needs - https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html
5 - no idea - adobe is a different company - no idea what their software does or needs - Photos does not create nor need an adobe file

  • Fastest Trash Emptying Software?

I use a G4 QuickSilver 2002; run Tiger & Leopard.  What is the fastest trash emptying software for Tiger & Leopard?

For reasons I do not understand, if I empty the trash can twice rapidly in a row, the second empty will be much slower than the first.  I consider it a "feature".
Do you have mulitple partitions?  Flash drives attached?  You have a trash can per partition. The GUI combines these into one trash can.
I'd live with the slow empty.
There is the unix rm and rmdir commands. They'd be fast, but dangerous.

  • Ok. Add me to the moron list. I guess I am an over zealous trash emptier. Can I retrieve those images from the vastness by entering my time machine and restore the library from a previous date (when I wasn't a moron?)

Masters is where you want to be. They'll be in there in folders based on the date and time they were imported.

  • Logout, sleep, and secure trash empty

When securely emptying trash, the system goes to sleep, then tries to log out if the system is left unattended while trash is securely being emptied. When I go to wake the system, I have to log in (expected from reading other threads); however, the secure trash emptying prevented finder from quitting (the "Finder can't quit becaused some operations are in progress" and the "Trash" emptying window still active diolog window appears after relogging in) and the login items closed during the logout do not reopen after logging in. Energy saver is temporarily set for the system to not sleep due to a very large amount of files that need deleting.

Open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences and turn off automatic logout.

  • Why isn't storage increased if a film has been deleted and trash emptied?

Why isn't storage increased if a video has been deleted and trash emptied?

This is very strange. Here are two screen shots from my computer, before and after deleting a 14 gB folder. Notice that the number in Used: is 14 gB less, as it should be. What numbers are you comparing?

  • How do I empty I photo trash

I have a lot of discarded photos (5000) in the actual Iphoto trash. When I try to empty it  the blue line shoots along but stops short of the end. And it looks as if it is continuing but wont, aven overnight !
Is there any alternative method ?

Create a new album and drag the photos from the trash bin into that album.  Then return the photos in the trash bin back to their Events by dragging them onto the Events icon in the left hand pane.
Next select about 100 of the photos in the album and use the Option+Command+Delete key combination to move those photos into the iPhoto Trash.  Empty that trash bin and repeat the process with another 100 or so photos.

  • Deleted i photo file + empty trash !

i have deleted the I photo file from my document and empty the trash i'm trying to recover it back  but could not find file with I photo name , i'm finding the pictures one by one , is it bossible ? time machine is not active

No you cannot recover the iPhoto Library. The Library is just a special kind of folder containing thousands of other files and folders, all linked by a couple of database files.
The best you can hope to do is to recover the individual files and then start over from scratch.
Mny of the files may have the same name. Always chose to recover the largest size.
Of course, with a back up...
