I placed a psd file with transparent background on another layer in my InDesign document. The layer below has a color (RGB). When the psd file is placed it changes the color on the layer below. I've tried other psd files thinking something is wrong with my file, but get the same result. I have tried for days to figure this out. Can anyone help me?

Wow, thank you! That was fast. I googled that question to death and even bought (another) book on CS5 and never saw that answer. Thank you so much. You made a very good ending to my day! I'd buy you a beer if I could!!

  • How can I export a file with transparent background?

    Hi all,
I know InDesign doesn't allow to export a PNG file, but I need my file to be in image file format with transparent background.
I'm still learning so I am stuck here. How can I export a file with transparent background?

If you can't get the PNG file export to work, you can export a pdf and open it in Photoshop, from there you can save it as whatever you like.

  • Importing .psd file with transparency in Premiere Pro CS4 titler

I am trying to import a psd file with transparency into the Premiere Pro CS4 titler and the transparency will not come in. I've tried psd, png, jpeg, gif, targa and none will preserve the transparency. What I'm trying to do is create a custom lower third using a image without having to build it inside the titler or drop the PSD directly onto my timeline. This seems like an easy task, but I'm not having any luck. Please help!

Boy you guys are quick. I did not find this thread until after you'd sorted it out. You know how much I like to work on PS to PrPro problems!
    Jeff,
You might want to move this thread to the PrPro sub-forum, as it will likely help others with PSD Transparency issues, and might never get seen back here.
Like you haven't been busy doing the housekeeping already. You moved one post WHILE I was replying to it. Imagine my surprise, when I replied and ended up in the other sub-forum - as if by magic!

  • Png files with transparent background show black only in firefox for android

I have a wix created site and png files with transparent backgrounds are showing with a black blackground in Firefox for Android. They show transparent in all other browsers I have tried.
I have tried saving the file as a gif, as a smaller png, interlaced, not interlaced, png 8, png24. It still shows black in Firefox for Android.

    Hi evelswoman,
Thank you for your question. This sounds like a good one for the web compatibility team. Currently there are some compatibility documentation for background-image here: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background-image] and more details on background: [https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/background]
Filling a bug with webcompat.com with an example url can go a long way as well, I hope this helps.

  • GIF file with transparent background (white spots)

Hii. I've been having a problem. I was trying to make a signature earlier with gif on photoshop cs5. I tried making it with a transparent background and when I put it up on the forum, it gave me white spots. It's not noticeable with a white background as the spots are white, but with another color background, it would show. Can someone tell me why?
-- this is the image i made with a transparent background. and because it didn't work out, I decided to not use a transparent background and used a color of the background of the forum which was off gray. I know i have erased all of the white spots in the transparent file becuase it seems perfectly fine in the one with a gray background.
Can someone fill me in on as to what i am doing wrong?

Gif only supports 1 bit transparency: either on or off. The edges of your artwork are anti-aliased, and these cannot be converted neatly without setting the matte colour in the save for web dialog.
With Gif you have two option: either live with the coloured fringe surrounding your artwork (and it will only display correct when the background color matches the matte colour, or remove every single anti-aliased pixel, effectively creating a perfect sharp pixel edge.
Neither options are great: with the first option you always run the risk of ugly artifacts around the edges when the background color does not match, and with a perfect pixel edge it may look somewhat jaggy.
Solution: avoid Gif, and instead save as a fully transparent PNG. File size-wise not the greatest option, because Photoshop cannot optimize a PNG file properly. To do that, load up Color Quantizer, and open the PNG file. Then set the number of colours to about 256~512 (should be more than enough in your case), and save.
    Done!
    Get Color Quantizer here: http://x128.ho.ua/color-quantizer.html
If certain areas in your artwork look less than ideal, make use of quality mask/brush in CQ.

  • I have a psd file with many layers and text. I want to edit the text. How do I do that?

    Hi all!
I recently purchased a book cover from a creative....she charged me one amount for the jpeg file and another amount for the psd file and then there's another cost to edit the text on the back cover. Instead of paying all these fees separately I'm trying to edit the text on my back cover myself.
The problem is I HAVE NO CLUE how to do this....anybody have any help to offer?

In the psd file, on the right side you should see a panel that says Layers. Expand that panel if it is not already by clicking on it.
Scroll down through the list in the layers panel until you find the text (there should be a large T for a thumbnail to show it is text)
Double click on that large T to edit the text. (The text should now be highlighted and the Text tool on the left side of the screen should be selected)
Type away then select any other layer to deselect the text
If you do not see any large T capture your screen with the layers panel open, so we can see what layers are there.

  • Using PNG files with transparent background - Please Help

I just purchased Elements to do a very specific task which I can’t do in Aperture. I am a former photoshopper (V.5) and excited to be back.
I am doing a book/scrapbook and the majority of my text will be my own handwriting. I use white paper and black ink and I scan in at the highest settings. My goal is to create my handwriting on a transparent background so I can place it in my book as I choose. For this specific project (which is very large in scope) I wanted to keep my image/file management within Aperture.
So I import my file (of my handwriting) from Aperture and successfully saved with a transparent background. Adobe said I had to save it as a PNG file. I noticed when I saved in Photoshop there was a warning saying I had to save as a copy.
Aperture does not see the file when I try to import it back. My interchange between aperture and photoshop is fine otherwise. This problem only seems to be with “unflattened” layered images. When I flatten the image it is recognized by Aperture, but I lose the transparent background in Photoshop.
If anyone sees flaws here or has a suggestion to “isolate” and save my personal handwriting image files I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Would probably work best if you first export from Aperture as PSD (if possible, like Lightroom) and then save to preserve layers.
From the PSD save as PNG24 rather than PNG8 which is better for preserving transparency.

  • Trying to import files with transparent backgrounds into Premier Elements 10

I am struggling to import files from Photoshop CS3 into Premier Elements 10 and preserve their transparent background. I have tried .png (8 and 24 bit), .gif and .psd files. I have tried rasterizing the type layer before "Saving for web and devices" but can't get anything to work. The imported files end up as either text on a white background (.gif) or the file imports as a black background with no type visible (.png and .psd). I have read a few forums but can't find any suggestions beyond what I have already tried. I also get the same problem if I "Save for web and devices" out of Illustrator.
    Any suggestions much appreciated.

You have brought up one very interesting maintaining transparency question which I feel goes more to the trigger on the
Premiere Elements Videomerge pop up than to the Photoshop CS2 Save As with or without a check mark for Maximum Compatibility
And, I find that Photoshop CS5.1 as well as CS2 involvement in this matter is the same.
I created three 720 x 480 pixels documents, each with a blue colored circle on a transparent background in
    Photoshop CS2 and saved each
psd with check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
psd with no check mark next to Maximize Compatibility
    png
Each of them was imported into a NTSC DV Standard Premiere Elements 11 Windows 7 64 bit project.
Each triggered the Premiere Elements 11 Videomerge pop up.
If I checked No for the program request to apply Videomerge, then all 3 results were the same, that is,
the area around the circle was transparent and the circle was not...just the way it was created in Photoshop CS2.
So, why was the Videomerge message telling me "Clip being dropped contains solid background color" when
it had transparency represented by black and did not have a solid background color?
Even more interesting was what happened if I selected Yes to the program's request to
apply Videomerge to create transparency for what it claimed to be seeing as "solid background color".
The result was the same for all three cases, that is, the inside content of the circle became transparent
and the "black background" became a "solid color".
Videomerge is not one of my preferred Premiere Elements options.
To avoid the Videomerge pop up, I would suggest placing a check mark next to the "Do not show again.",
followed by No in the Videomerge pop up. When you do, you should not be confused by the activities of the
Videomerge pop up activities and you should have no problems with the maintenance of the Photoshop
created transparency in the Premiere Elements project.

  • How do I save stock footage as flash file with transparent background?

    Hi
I have some stock footage of smoke on a black background (.mov format) that I would like to convert to a flash file with a transparent background, which I will be overlaying over a PNG image on a webpage.
I have managed to remove the black background in After Effects using a plugin called UnMult, but when I try to render as a FLV file in AE, even though I check the option to preserve the alpha channel and encode using the On2 VP6 codec, I still get a black background.
So I am wondering what else to try, whether it be with AE or Flash CS4.  Is there a way of achieving this effect by directly importing the MOV file into Flash CS4 and removing the black background there, or do I have to use AE, and if so, how to achieve the effect I am looking for?
I would be grateful for any help in getting this together
    Thanks
    Nick

  • HT4641 Importing graphics with with transparent backgrounds such as .psd or .eps

I want to use this for an art project for my sons class. Can I import .psd files with transparent backgrounds as per Word, to retain the clear cut shape/opacity of background. Or can I import .eps illustrator files with transparent backgrounds? Thanks.

If you need transparency - as I stated - you need to convert the image to GIF. PSD is a layered graphic workspace file specifically for PhotoShop; EPS can be read by more applications, but is still basically a graphic print format. It might serve your customer needs, but wouldn't be the format I would recommend for general distribution. Typically you wouldn't embed EPS in another file, it would be the container for the print ready document (and the concern for transparency would be somewhat moot).
However, I'm not familiar with the intimate details of your project or customer needs, so take that for what its worth.

  • Images with transparent background layers

I have a number of .psd files with transparent backgrounds. If I import them into Aperture, they show up in the Browser and Viewer with black backgrounds. If I drag them into a Book, some of them behave as though transparent, but some retain the black background.
I can't see any difference in the files themselves. They were all created by the same means. Why would some of them lose their transparency in Aperture and some retain it?

Aperture doesn't support transparency at this time.
I'm pretty surprised that any of them behave as though transparent.
You should make the Image backgrounds the same color as the book pages to achieve a transparency effect.

  • Photos with transparent background weird issue in album

There is something very strange happening
    What I did
I saved two images that had transparent background
When I view it in my photo album the thumbnail shows the image but for the "background" it is some other random photo that isn't even in my camera roll! It just shows up only when I save these images with transparent background.  This happened for two images and the photos showing up are different (from the same night because I can see who is in it).
When I view these images larger, the background photos do not appear , so it is very strange
I took a screen shot of this too and would like to send to apple support

I would not really expect AppleTv to handle transparency in an image, though maybe it does and this is some kind of bug.
I would regard transparency handling as a non-basic feature to be honest, one that the majority of users will not expect to use or use.
    Does iPhoto handle transparency properly?
    Send feedback to:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/appletv.html
It may be something they can add fairly easily, but it may not either.
Don't expect a reply from that link.

  • Save jpg or tiff with transparent background

How do you save a jpg image of something (ART) created with a transparent background so that it can be printed on fabric?

AppleWorks doesn't handle transparency well, even using formats such as .gif or .png saved with transparent backgrounds in another application. However, a few years ago I accidentally discovered that if an object is flipped or rotated in AppleWorks, the background will become transparent. The object doesn't even have to be .gif or .png & have transparency.
Once I discovered this, I used GraphicConverter to flip an image horizontally & save it as a PICT. Then I insert the object in my AppleWorks document & flip it back. I use PICT because it is the only graphic format that will retain the native resolution. All other graphic formats are changed to 72 dpi by AppleWorks.
Unfortunately, the last few times I tried this, it no longer worked. For myself, I use Pages for this kind of work now. I handles transparency very well.

  • How do I transfer a .psd file to illustrator that can then be placed in Muse as a .svg with transparent background?

I just wrote all this up in another thread.  I did not realize at the time that the last post was in 2014, so I'm giving it a go here.
I am currently trying to create an .svg using Photoshop .psd file (with layers in tact).  I'm new to these products so it may be obvious to others that the above intention was to eventually place the .svg in some sort of website creation software such as Muse.  Which is precisely what I am attempting. However, I am getting a white background once I place or copy and paste into Muse.  My starting .psd has a transparent background without any hidden layers causing this problem.  To test this I placed the .psd file into Muse and it still has a transparent background.  However when opening or placing this file into illustrator, it picks up a white background. If I do exactly as described above, I still get the same result.  So far I have tried:
    1) Simple copy and paste from Photoshop .svg to illustrator to Muse.  Result - white background.
    2) Placing the .psd in illustrator, then placing the .svg file in muse.  Result - white background.
    4) I have also tried the every combination of 1 and 2. - Result - white background.
    3) I have now created a path in Photoshop from the text layer to yet again attempt the above methods.  Result - white background.
I'm including an image of the object I am trying to place with transparent background, but I have both a flattened rasterized version, a version complete with layers and a third (.svg) with the corresponding objects.  I am completely new to Illustrator as of today so any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.
Link to .psd file "Welcome text"

I was having some difficulties getting the correct dimensions of one of my objects, I eventually solved this problem without using svg.  It was pretty simple when I stopped trying to over complicate things.  I just linked the object to a near by object in photoshop, merged and placed it all as one.  It looks great now.  Thanks for your reply.  You are correct, SVG was not the answer.

  • Image with transparent background shows up with a white background in ID

    Amateur needs help.
I have a copy of a logo with a transparent background.  I made the (white) background transparent in PS by creating a layer from background and then selecting the white color in the background and deleting it.  This has always worked in the past.  But when I place this image into ID, it shows up with a white background.  I have tried saving as a PSD, TIF, JPG, etc.  I cannot get it to work.
I normally research these things until I find an answer, but I am on a tight deadline.  Thanks!

I totally forgot to put that in my post.  Yes, I am putting logos with transparent backgrounds in front of colored rectangles.  That's how I noticed that this one logo is showing up with a white background.  The weird thing is that the other two logos are fine.  I did find a different version of this logo and this one works fine.  The one that works fine is a JPG and the one that shows up with a white background is a JPG.
