I plug in my "older" iPod classic 80 gig. It will not register on my Macbook Pro to show it is even plugged in??

I have not updated my iPod in a few years and usually have my iPhone 5 synching. I would like to update my music on my iPod - but it does not even register and I get a "bubble" coming up saying "USB DEVICES DISABLED - Unplug the device using too much power to re-enable USB devices"??? Anyone have any advice? I do not even see that it is in my devices on the Mac or iTunes....

That can happen if the USB docking cable is faulty and is causing a short-circuit. A short-circuit would draw too much power, and that message comes up. If you have several USB devices connected at the same time, it is also possible that the total power draw of all the devices (including the iPod when you connect it) is too much for the MacBook's USB bus. This is happening to protect the computer's hardware from damage.
You should try a different USB docking cable, or try the one you have with another device, to confirm it is not faulty. Also, disconnect all USB devices from the MacBook and connect the iPod to a direct USB port by itself. Because you got that message, you may want to shut down (power off) the MacBook and then start it back up.

IPod Classic 5th generation will not sync with new MacBook

I have had a 5th generation iPod classic that I have been super happy with. I have used it with several PC laptops. Because I have gone through so many PC's, I decdied this year to get a new MacBook Pro. Since my old PC was dying it took forever to get all my music and videos transferred to my new MacBook. Anyhow, I have had no luck syncing my iPod with my new MacBook. I have read several other posts (but mostly older like 2007-2010) that others have had similar problems. Here is a quick list of what I have done/what has happened:
Initially, I would get one of two messages:
'The ipod '(My Name) ipod' cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-124)'
- 'The ipod '(My Name) ipod' cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found.'
Two times it told me I needed to use a USB 2.0 port (but I have a new MacBook and was using the newer 3.0 port). I haven't seen that message since.
It actually "transferred" over 4500 of my 7000 items (I have a ton of music that I use for my job) and then just stopped. When it was disconnected only about 200 songs were actually on my iPod.
I've restored it several times.
Seems to "freeze" on random songs or videos and will not continue to sync, even theough the iPod says it's syncing. Then iTunes freezes. I have to "force quit." Sometimes (but not all the time) if I try to re-open iTunes, I get a message that says iTunes is locked.
I thought maybe my cable was bad (it was the original that came with the iPod). I actually spent $20 and got a new one. No luck.
With the new cord iTunes now gets frozen on the 3rd or 4th song it is trying to transfer. Once I disconnect the iPod (I have to disconnect with ejecting because iTunes is frozen and it also freezes up Finder to eject) my iPod makes an awful click sound and I have to start it by toggling and then holding the play/pause button.
I have tried enabling disk, manually controlling music, etc. but nothing helps.
I am sick about it because I rely on my iPod a lot for my job-- and I can't afford a new one since I just bought a MacBook. I think it has something to do with the fact that I got this new MacBook. My old PC was getting so sensitive that I didn't download the latest version of iTunes (but I still had the second latest version).

Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.

Ipod Classic 7th generation will not sync with all movies in Itunes

I just bought an Ipod classic today, due to my iphone 5 not able to connect to my car entertainment system and car stereo. Needing a 30 pin to connect to it. So I bought it, connected it to my mac computer, and not all the movie files will sync to it. I get this message:
For some reason, some of my movies will transfer to the ipod classic, and some will not. They are all m4v files. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Does anyone know why my 2nd gen iPod calendars will not update from my Macbook pro starting as of Oct. 20, 2012? I tried restoring to factory settings and genius's did DFR type restore....no results.

As of Oct 20, 2012, my calendars will not load from my Macbook Pro to my iPod. Tried resetting to factory settings and installing just my work calendar... unsuccessful. Genius at my Apple store tried a DFR (?) type reset... still no calendars. All other functions of the iPod is working fine. Any suggestions?

And I have been keeping up with updates, but I thought they all involved fixes to Logic Pro and Aperture (but there may have been an update to OXS...is there any way to see when fixes were released?) The Genius's at our store were stumped and told me to contact Apple.... but without Apple care, I will be charged a fee.... and my iPod is in pristine shape. Connect to car, IPOD Classic pauses and will not play

Hello to all,
First of all I am not very good at computer stuff. I used my IPOD Classic for about three months with a car kit and all was fine. All of a sudden it stopped playing. I figured out that the IPOD pauses when it is connected to the wire from the car. I have tried connecting it with the car off, on, radio off, on all with the same result, as soon as the IPOD detects the wire it pauses. My radio will only play the IPOD not control it. Any ideas?? This is driving me mad. I don't understand why it worked for months and then suddenly stopped. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm having the same problem. I updated my ipod in itunes and now my car's usb deck will not recognize the ipod. It had been working for years without a problem. I emailed kenwood and they said apple pushed out an update that is causing compatibility issues with car decks. They suggested a "soft reset" which did nothing. Kenwood told me to contact Apple and Apple wants me to pay for support. Guess I'll surf around this forum till I find a way to revert back to an older version of the ipod software.

Hello, i have a 2005 ipod classic. It wont take charge in the wall or computer. it only works with the car charger/player and before it works it take about 15 seconds to boot. when plugged in wall or computer it only says please wait very low battery and it will sit like that for hours. I've replaced the battery once before and it worked for a month then it started doing this again. is there any way to get it working by doing it myself?

Replacing the battery is a rather delicate operation best left to the Apple techs. If you do any damage Apple will not touch it or give any help, even on a device out of warranty. It sounds like a new battery is in order.

                                       the problem is a failure to sync with the new computer. the conditions are as follows: the new computer is a pc. it has the latest iTunes software installed. the iPod is installed properly. i'm fully recognized by my iTunes account. there is nothing lacking other than my iPod's refusal to sync with my new computer. what have i left undone? i could be suffering from a duh, but i'm not the only one. nothing in the apple world is as difficult as this one is, at least on the surface. if it were that simple an issue, no one would be having any problems with it. any more information needed can be provided by request. by the way, the computer being used has been authorized. that is a non-issue.

I believe the IPOD (Classic) uses USB 2.0, and my new laptop uses USB 3.0. I think they are not compatable because of this. If you find a solution to this please let me know.

IPod nano 7th Generation will not register in computer

My iPod 7G has suddenly ceased recognizing any power source. The battery died I went to plug it in and neither the computer or iTunes would not even register that there was anything attached. When I tried to restart and do a hard restore, it would glitch and just continuously restart unless unplugged from power. I have not added any new files that could have altered it.

Is the Enable Disk Use option enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes? If so, disable it and then try restoring again.
Sometimes simply rebooting the iPod and Mac can resolve the issue. To reset the Nano, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

I recently went to macmedics to get my ipod fixed i had broken the hardrive. they put in a new hardrive but when i went to sync my music it would only sync aboutm300 songs of my 23 GB of music before freezing the computer and throwing out error -53, -50, or 1303. so i googled a bunch of stuff, did the whole device manager thing and installed the right apple usb mobile device driver thing, didnt solve anything. uninstalled itunes, restarted comp., installed itunes again, same problem. so i decided to restore the ipod to factory settings, did so it downloaded some ipod software update and now whenever i click the sync button it completely ignores my command and reverts to the title of whatever song i am playing. any ideas of what i can do. i have a 1 year warranty with mac medics but i have a feeling they are going to tell me there is nothing they can do. if someone has an answer i'd REALLY appreciate it.

after restoring it once again, it has also reverted back to only syncing up to around 400 songs before getting stuck on a track for half an hour before telling me it cannot sync the ipod.

Does your MacBook meet the specifications for AirPlay
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
