When I plugged in a usb drive in to my ACD the screen broke half of it turned white. I tried unplugging it from everything for a day and it still is broken.,

Is seems that pushing the USB plug in, flexed the internal circuit board enough to break a connection. Repair could be expensive

Can i plug an usb drive into a iMac and access it with a Macbook pro?

I have an iMac that is less than 3 months old and my wife now has a two week old Macbook Pro.
IMac:
21.5" screen
3.1 quad core i7
16 GB Ram
1 TB Fusion drive
Macbook Pro:
13" screen
3.0 dual core i7
8 GB ram
512 GB Flash storage
Both have Mountain Lion.
Both are running iOS 6.1.2
I would like to attach an external USB hard drive to the iMac and allow the Macbook Pro to be able to have full access to just the external USB hard drive. Either it can't be done or I am just not getting the Sharing settings set correctly. I played around with sharing last night on both machines. When I would plug in a FAT 32 thumb drive into either machine and find it, I would add it to he shared folder but it would only allow me and "Everyone" to have access. I could not change "Everyone" to "No Access" because "Everyone" was greyed out or add my wife. I can access the Macbook Pro as Mark with the iMac but I can only access the iMac from the Macbook Pro as a "Guest".
I am using a Netgear WNR3500L router. I currently have the USB hard drive connected to the router via the Readyshare USB port but it is formatted as NTFS for Windows shared files. This router does not recognize HFS+ formatted hard drives in the USB port. When I move it to the iMac, I will back it up and then reformat it as HFS+. Since the router is about a year old and working fine, I would buy an Airport Extreme or Time Capsule if that is my only choice.
I don't normally turn off the iMac.
I would not want to allow access to any other device.
Since I am very new at Mac's, I would appreciate any help that any of you can offer me.

My thumb drive is formatted as Fat 32 so your first paragraph explains what I am seeing.
You are correct that my existing router does not support HFS+. It is visible from my MAC and some file are read only.
The drive that I will be wanting to attach to the iMac would be formatted as HFS+ so it would not be accessible from my router.
So, if I setup sharing (If it is possible) and thern plugged in a USB 3.0 hard drive into my iMac, would it be accessible to my Macbook Pro? If it would not be, it looks like an Airport Extreme or a Time Capsule are my only options?
I see that a Netgear 4500 is Time Machine compatible. Any idea what that means? When I read pages 80 through 82, it appears to me that you format your drive to HFS+ and then eventually plug it into the router usb.

Look in the Utility folder which is located inside the Applications folder.
You don't want to do anything with the disk on a PC if you want it to work on the Mac. They both use different formats.

Creative Cloud Crashes When I Plug In a USB Drive

My problem is that Adobe Creative Cloud application crashes every time I plug in a USB drive. My computer is Windows 7 64-bit. A brief history:
1. I signed up for Creative Cloud and started to download and install the Creative Cloud desktop application (an upgrade to the Application Manager). The installation failed. I tried it again and the installation failed again.
2. Contacted Adobe Tech Support via live chat where the tech took over my computer and did so many things I couldn’t follow what he was doing. He finally got the Creative Cloud desktop application to install successfully. At least we thought so at the time.
3. I was then able to download Photoshop CC and Bridge CC and begin using the applications.
4. A day or two later I discovered the Creative Cloud application (not Photoshop or Bridge) crashes every time I plug in a USB drive.
5. Since then I’ve had two more chat sessions with Adobe tech support where they had me rename some folders to OOBEold and uninstall and reinstall the Creative Cloud desktop application. The last time they had me download and try to run a Creative Cloud Cleaner, but it couldn’t find the Creative Cloud application so we couldn’t run the cleaner. These reinstallations were unproductive as Creative Cloud still crashes when I plug in a USB drive. It doesn’t matter if I use the USB ports on the front or the back of the computer.
Has anyone else experienced this particular issue with Creative Cloud and, if so, were you able to solve the problem?
Is there a graceful way to close the Creative Cloud application instead of using the Task Manager to end the process before I plug in a USB drive? There is a drop-down menu by a gear icon in the upper right of the application window that has Preferences and Quit Creative Cloud as two of the options. What does the option “Quit Creative Cloud” actually mean? Are you just closing the application or are you doing something more serious? Under preferences there is an option that is selected by default to Launch at login. What does “Launch at login” mean? Does it mean when the computer starts up or when you actually go to Adobe and login to your account or something else?

Thanks for your reply. After four very lengthy tech support chat sessions, the last tech support person (30 July, 2013) suggested that it was probably some sort of conflict with the drivers for the USB ports on my Dell computer. The case number you requested is still open and is: 0184509373.
I spent a lot of time during the last tech chat trying to determine a graceful way to quit the application before using any USB devices. Just clicking on the X to close the window does not close the application as it still shows up as an active process in Windows Task Manager. Our conversation kept getting confused between the Creative Cloud application and the more global Creative Cloud and which you were quitting or logging out of. Adobe should have kept the name “Application Manager” for the application.
After experimenting, I’ve devised the following work around. It’s a nuisance, but it seems to work a little better than just crashing the application. I open the Creative Cloud desktop application and choose “Quit Creative Cloud.” I can then use a USB device without a crash. After disconnecting the USB device, I restart the Creative Cloud application by double clicking on the icon on my desktop. Finally, I can use Photoshop CC and Bridge. If I don’t restart the Creative Cloud application first, Photoshop asks me to register the software again. This puzzles me as I didn’t think the Creative Cloud application had to be running in order to use Photoshop.

Reformating a 3 GB USB drive into just one partition

I once tried to plug a 3TB hard drive into my 2008 iMac to discover it wouldn't recognize anything over 2TB. So, I upgraded to 10.8.5. But evidently, when I originally tried to format the drive, I accidentally created 2 partitions. When I plug the device in, I now have "2 hard drives" - one 2.2 TB and one about 800 GB. I want to reformat these "two" drives into one usable 3TB drive.
Any suggestions?

The problem is, I'm not sure how to do that. When I turn on the drive, it appears as "Untitled" and "Untitled 1" - as though they were two drives.
When Disk Utility recognizes them, they are listed as such with the respective size of the partitions (801.57 GB & 2.2 TB) above them in the list.
When I highlight one of the partition sizes (say, the 801.57 one), I DO now see the Partition tab. However, I don't see where I can merely "delete" it. It tells me that to erase and partition the selected disk, I must choose a layout from the Partition Layout pop-up menu.
There is also an option to "drag" one corner of the partition layout to where it's only 53.59 GB, changing, but not completely erasing the partition.
What am I missing here?

I have an aging iBook G3 with a 20 GB HDD. I'm running low on space and was wondering if I could turn an usb drive into an external hard drive (I plan to install applications to it). I have several 32 GB sticks that I bought for other uses but it would be nice if I could use one as an hard drive. How would I do it if it's even possible?

Probably the best answer is yes and yes.
The internal hard drive is getting very old, and, as with all things mechanical, it will die one day. While you should be able to use the USB drive for extra storage (I'm not sure about running applications from it, though), I would strongly recommend getting an external FireWire drive so that you can back up your hard drive with SuperDuper! so as not to lose anything when the internal hard drive bites the dust.

I've been backing up my iMac to an external HDD while I waited to get my TC replaced (blew the PSU about a month ago and I've been lazy about getting it fixed). Now that my replacement 500Gb TC has arrived, I'd like to continue with the current TM backup I have. Can I simply unplug the USb drive from the iMac and plug it into the USB port on the back of the TC? I know I can backup to the drive from scratch, but I want to be able to continue using the backup I already have. I know Time Machine over wired/wireless uses a sparsebundle instead and that a USb doesn't, so will there be an issue?
(And the reason I want to move the external in the first place is to free up some space on my desk)

You can probably do that, if there's enough room on the disk for two copies of your backups, or if you have a second disk you can use, but it's a bit tricky and will take a long time.
See #18 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
If your current backups are case-ignorant, however, the procedure there won't work "as is". You'll have to either change the sparse bundle that Time Machine makes, or use a special Terminal command to copy your backups into the default sparse bundle.
So your best bet is probably to simply erase the drive and let TM start fresh. And if your USB drive doesn't have it's own power supply, you'll probably want to use a powered hub.

Sorry but no. iOS does not support connecting a printer via USB, only via WiFi, and without such support there's no way a developer can build an app to provide such capability.
