I plugged my Iphone 4 into my laptop and an error occurs
I had my iPhone 4 for a year and it doesnt sync or register the only thing that happens is a box appears saying there has been an error.
There is no iphone 5.
Itunes 5 would be very old. The newest itunes is 10.5.3. The newest ios for iphone is ios 5.0.1. Is this what you mean?
Have you tried to restore it?

If AMDS is running, you are using a USB port directly on the computer and not a hub, you have disconnected other USB devices except keyboard and mouse, you have completely uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes as described in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925, You have tried cleaning the connector on the bottom of the phone, you have tried a different cable, you have installed the latest USB drivers for your computer, you have disabled your antivirus and firewall, you are running as an Administrator account and you have tried creating a new user on your computer and connected when logged in as that user then you have exhausted my knowledge. The only other thing to try is a different computer. If it isn't recognized on a different computer you have a hardware problem. Good luck!

i have 2 iphone 3gs so i plugged 1 of them into my laptop and i downloaded i tunes everything was ok i downloaded songs so after few days i got the other i phone and i did the same thing but every thing (pictures,contacts)of the1 phone was restored to the second i phone and all the pictures of the 2 phone had gone and it only had pictures and contacts of the 1 phone anybody plz help i am in egypt and there is noo apple stores in egypt so plz help

See this support document http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 and read about the 1015 error. Usually refers to jailbreaking, or attempts to install different firmware. Does this apply to you?

please help! when i plug my iphone 4s into itunes, it tells me it cant sync and to restore it back to factory settings. how do i do this without losing all of my contact list, music i purchased on my phone, and all the other data and pics? i do have i cloud that recently backed up, but does i cloud back up my contacts to?

I have plugged my new Iphone 5 into a computer with itunes that had an iphone 4s registered with it. So when I plugged in my Iphone to the laptop I may have clicked something because I was looking to just add the music from the Itunes to my phone. I am a new iphone user and dont really know what I did and am seeking assitance because I have also now lost all my contacts (which have been synced entired to the laptop I lost all my original files and was synced the files from the other iphone4s users profile.) I have also lost the link to locate my personal hotspot when i entir the settings home page. I am wondering I have downgraded my phone or something. What can I do to get my personal hotspot back?
Restore it from the last backup you made on YOUR computer or iCloud.

You'll have to set up his mail account again. To change the name, follow this article: iTunes: How to rename your device
After that right click on it in the device list and choose backup. A manual backup will be made, no sync process is included. When the backup is finished you should find it listed in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices

I plugged my Ipod touch into my Dell laptop and went to Itunes. Itunes told me I should down load an upgrade, so I did. Itunes said the down load would take two hours. I started the down load, but after two + hours (&longer) , after several starts and stops the down load never completed.
I recently got a (fake anti virus) virus and it damaged my computer. I got it fixed and reinstalled the software and it appears to be working correctly. Could this be the part of the problem ?
Would it help if I reloaded the Itunes (off an external HD) or downloaded it again from Itunes ?
ThanksI doubt it. For my updates, it has typically taken me many tries/retries. Like for you, the download would stop. and I would have to restart from the beginning. If you get a network timed out error try disabling the security software on your computer.

It sounds like your phone is not seen in iTunes on your computer but is recognized in My Computer. You have done an excellent job troubleshooting so far, and next I recommend these steps from the article named:

4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys
The title mentions the iPod, but the steps will be relevant for the iPhone as well.

Plugged my iPhone five into charger overnight and can't get it to turn on this morning
Can't get my phone to power on
Try a Reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider if, it comes up. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

I completely understand what you are trying to say. Regardless of what YOU are saying are facts, its my device. YOU don't know what glitches, issues or age defined viruses may take place on my device. Anything is possible. YOU may think you're an expert but i'm positive that you haven't seen everything. On the other hand I full-heartedly appreciate your help in telling me I can never get my data back. Im sure you know a lot about apple and can help many others that need help (no sarcasm at all). is this simply because of the madness?
All versions of the 2.0 upgrade from apple are total clusterbombs. Both of my phones have been totally jacked since attempting this upgrade, and many of the issues that occur once u are finally able to upgrade still exist after 2.1 update (see my other posts).
I had the same prob as u guys only in my case, it actually bricked a 6 month old $2000 dell notebook in the process and partially bricked my old dell desktop still running XP PRO (not to mention both of our iPhones). The only way I got around the prblem after literally days of research and calls to apple tech support was to try to sync a third time on a third computer - my work pc - and pray to Steve jobs that I didn't get caught, fired, or brick that machine as well. Dumb luck prevailed though I guess bcuz it worked just fine and I was no longer dead in the water with no phone at all.
-but of course by syncing with that computer, all of my contacts, data, music and photos were all lost thanks to apples policy of forcing sync whether u really want to or not.
So the moral of the story is, the only solution that I could find on apples website was to basically just keep installing their invasive software on other people's computers until eventually u come across one that gets lucky and actually works. Still can't believe that they literally suggest people do that on their website as a feasible solution to their software coding deficiencies, but hey I guess that's what we bottom feeders get for trying to use a 'superior software app designed for a superior operating platform' ie a freaking MAC on a far more inferior platform that they like to call WINDOWS!!! -
