  • Ipod nano 5th generation not recognized by itunes

I just got a new iPod nano and when I connect it, nothing happens. Itdoes not appear in the device list in iTunes. The nano screen says it is connected but I didn't get to even set it up in itunes. I've tried everything on the apple site - uninstalled itunes and then reinstalled, reset the ipod. I just can't restore because the apple site says I need to do that through iTunes, but I can't b/c it's not showing up in the device list. VERY FRUSTRATING!!

  • 5th generation not recognized after reformat

I recently reformatted my hard drive. Before I did so, I deauthorized the computer for iTunes, backed up my music, etc. I have reinstalled iTunes, authorized the computer, and restored my music and videos. All seems good with iTunes.
However, when I plug my 5th generation Nano in, iTunes is saying it cannot read the content and needs to restore the factory defaults, which would erase all the content. Before I go through the hassle of recreating all my playlists and whatnot, I was trying to find if there may be a workaround or "fix" for this. Any suggestions? I did save the complete My Document\My Music\iTunes directory, so if there is a config file or something that identifies devices, I could restore it. Thanks for any help.

    See these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod only shows an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
Restoring using disk mode is often the key.

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup
    iOS: How to back up
Then restore via iTunes. The iOS device will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • Aiport Extreme (5th Generation) not suited as wifi-router to a ZyXEL modem?

I am using Airport Extreme 5th generation as a Wifi-router to a ZyXEL P-660H-D1 Triple Play modem.
Several times every day the status lamp blinks amber and Airport Utility reports that no Ethernet cable is connected. Sometimes the problem is solved by restarting the modem and sometimes I need to pull out the power cable (and plug it back in of course) to restart the Airport so it works for a couple of hours until it crashes again.
I have ordered a new modem from my ISP but I am not entirely sure the modem is the problem. Any possible problems with the Airport that can cause this type of malfunction? Is the Airport incompatible with the modem?
    Sources of error already controlled:
I have bought new ethernet cables (which works when I connect the computer directly to the modem).
My computer can connect to friends Airport Extremes without any problems, so the computer and Windows as operative system should not be the problem.
The modem (works when directly connected to a computer).
I have doublechecked that the Airport and the modem are connected as they should be.
Both the ZyXEL modem and the Airport have the latest updates.

I am using Airport Extreme 5th generation as a Wifi-router to a ZyXEL P-660H-D1 Triple Play modem.
A quick check indicates that the ZyXEL P-660H-D1 is not exactly a modem.
It is a modem/router or gateway type of device that combines the functions of a separate modem and separate router in one package.
That would be mean that the AirPort Extreme, which is also a router, must be configured to operate in Bridge Mode to work correctly with the ZyXEL device.
Otherwise, you will have two routers in series competing with each other....which will cause connection difficulties and loss of Internet service.
Your post does not indicate whether you have the AirPort Extreme setup to operate in Bridge Mode.....where it needs to be. Can you check on that?
Setup this way, the P-660 is in total charge of the network while the AirPort Extreme remains passive. Even though you might be using the wireless function on the AirPort Extreme, the P-660 is responsible for issuing correct IP addresses to all clients on the network.
If you plan to change "modems", then it would make sense to get a real "modem".....not a modem/router or gateway device that needlessly complicates the operation of the network.

  • AirPlay iOS 8 iPod Touch 5th Generation Not Available?

I have an iPod Touch 5th generation (latest generation) that was purchased just over a year ago. I am currently running iOS 8.0.2, and cannot connect to a third-party AirPlay streaming device (a Raspberry Pi Model B running OpenElec version 4.2.1 with AirPlay enabled). I have tried multiple approaches to fix this issue (uPnP on my router, enabling other connections such as SSH and Samba), but nothing I do will cause any AirPlay options to come up in the control centre. However, when I look on an iPhone 4s, the AirPlay options come up immediately in the control centre, and AirPlay works with my third-party device and the iPhone 4s. Is there a bug within the iOS 8 configuration for the iPod touch, or are my settings set incorrectly?
**Note: AirPlay worked before I updated to iOS 8

Mine works just fine and I didn't have to do anything.  However, it may be worth your while to try pairing the devices again,  Also, a system reset wouldn't hurt.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • I pod 5th generation wont turn on or connect to computer.

My ipod 5th generation with the latest update suddenly stopped working over night. It will not power on or connect to the computer what so ever. There is no physical damage at all that would indicate fall damage what so ever. I went to bead last night after using it and at the time it had no problems, however after i woke up and went to go check it nothing would work. It looked as if it was powered off. I could not turn it on with the on button, nor by plugging it in. I then connected it to the computer with about 5 differient chargers that all work on my brothers ipod and the computer could not detect my ipod but had no problem my brothers. It is also a replacement ipod from apple because my first ipod the battery just couldent hold a charge so they replaced it free of cost, However i do believe that it was referbished and not a brand new one if that has anything to do with this problem. What i want to know is can i fix it on my own? is it physical or has programing failed on it? And if i cant fix it what can i do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod touch 5th generation not working right since 8.3 software update.

I am having problems with my iPod 5th generation. Ever since I downloaded the new 8.3 software update when i plug it into my usb in my car my radio is reading my iPod and indexing my car radio will start playing for 23 seconds than it freezes my radio and stays at indexing and when I look at my iPod it's still playing even though the car radio is frozen at the first song it started on. I have no problems with my 4th generation one I plug it into my car and it works fine through my radio it reads that iPod and indexes it and starts playing and stays playing.

There's a couple of things you will want to look at:
    1. Make sure you have the latest version of Remote
    2. Check your firewall settings on your Mac (in System Preferences > Security) and set it to accept all connections.
    3. Remote uses two ports through your router firewall that you may have to enable. See this article for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1741

  • Why does my nano 5th generation NOT have radio?

I bought a used nano 5th generation...8GB and there is no radio option on it....everthing I find on-line says it should have it....anyone know why?

No, any wired headphones will work but be sure they are plugged all the way in, the plastic on the headset jack should be flush with the body of the Nano.

  • IPod 5th Generation not showing up

I have an old iPod 80Gb, 5th gen. which has problems connecting to iTunes.
If iTunes is on, and I connect the iPod via USB, the screen says "Do not disconnect" but the iPod does not show in iTunes.
If I reset the iPod, it will show up.
It will also sometimes show up, if iTunes is off and I connect the iPod, resulting in iTunes starting up.
    But it's very erratic.
I have done a full factory restore of the iPod but problem remains the same.
In the iTunes Preferences, my iPod is also not listed (iPhones and iPads are listed)
Is this a bug with iTunes? or...?

Good to hear you found the solution.

  • Ipod nano 5th generation not supported by iTrip fm transmitter

Hey all! So I have a new ipod, 5th geneneration nano, and an old FM transmitted for my car from iTrip. When I plug it in it says not supported by this device. I heard I can do a software update of some kind to make this work? Just thought I would see what I could do before I bought a new device to use my ipod in my car! Any suggestions?? Thanks!

    Hello Wittrockj,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I don't really have much to offer, but I noticed your alias as "Wittrockj." I find it a bit crazy, because I myself am a Wittrock, and I hardly ever run into to too many. Anyways, nice to meet you.
As to the FM transmitter, have you checked the manufacturer's website or contacted them via telephone or email? They would have a better idea on this sort of thing. Considering the transmitter was released before the iPod, I think your chances are pretty slim when it comes to your Nano being compatible with it.
