I-Pod not recognized

Whenever I plug my I-Pod Photo into my laptop with Vista, I get told the USB Device is not recognized. Any ideas on what I can do? As of right now my laptop is the only computer I have at college, and I'd rather not have to wait until I can get my desktop sent.

Hello, everyone. I've had my 80G classic for about two years and last week bad things happened. When I plugged in my I-pod it said that this device could work better using USB 2.0. I thought that this was weird but didn't think much of it.( My I-pod had been using USB 2.0 for a few months on this computer) then the next day. It stopped connecting at all and says that this device can not be recognized. I have turned off my PC and tried pulling the power cord out. I've tried reinstalling my drivers. The funny thing is that I can still charge my I-pod with fire-wire and it works normal besides this.

That sounds like something strange may have happened to your USB drivers, lichu.
In the course of your troubleshooting to date, have you worked through the following document?

I-Pod not recognized by laptop

Dear All,
I use my i-pod as an archive flash disk. I tried to plug it yesterday to different computers, and none have recognized it. I have checked USB ports and all are fine. While not recognized the i-Pod is still charging (using power from lap top) which seems to indicate that cable is fine. What to do? I am really stuck and I desesperatly need some of the data on the pod. Tks for any tips/solutions. F

I have an IPOD Touch 2nd generation. I'm trying to connect it via USB to a WinXP box. The USB port is enhanced, is operation, but does not detect the IPOD. Any suggestions?

I would start by:
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Does it charge?
I suspect that enhanced mean USB 2 port.

I am having trouble getting my nano to show up on my computer.
I have a 3g nano and using vista.
Here are the facts:
completed the 5 r's
Went into disk mode, which says "ok to disconnect" every time I do.
USB cable and ports are all fine.
external flash drives and hard drives I have all work with no problems.
Ipod worked fine and randomly stoped working.
When I plug i-pod into computer it lights up.
I-pod chargers and works fine.
Please help.

Hi, Im 11 Years Old And I Have A Black iPod Nano 3rd Gen I Got It From My Mom On Chrismas And My Mom Put My iTunes On A Disk On Accedent And I Plugged My iPod In My Compaq Windows Vista Yesterday And i Put The Disk In And iTunes Pops Up, My iPod Is Plugged In. It Shows This Weird White iPod And Its Not Mine So I Eject It Even Tho Its Not Mine And My iPod Screen Says Its "Connected Eject Before Disconnecting" And On The I Tunes I Doesnt Even Show My iPod To Eject So I Cant Eject It I Cant Do Nothing I Love My iPod But i Think Its Broken....Please Help Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello this is in regards with the i pod and i tunes. Recently had to make i pod into enable disk use for data now the options on the i tunes arent there because the computer things its a usb storage device. Now it wont let me change it back to music storage etc in options. Went to restore it the same thing happens. The computer usb hubs are working ok because they find the i pod as a storage device but the same thing happens. Go to restore as i said and ive updated it using the download nothing. Orange and green lights are flashing on it and now its locked me out. Added the new hardware with the driver for the i pod the same thing happens. It says no i pod connected or no i pod detected. This has gone on for so long now i want my i pod back please can someone help me. I tried to install and uninstall i tunes its same things HElp!!!!

I-pod not recognized...cannot even restore.

I ran the i-pod updater to restore the problem but the thing just freezes on instalizing.....i can't even restore my i-pod......some one please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm having the same problem....kinda.
I put the ipod(4th gen) into disk mode. Connect it to pc, the hardware icon appears in the system tray. But it doesn't appear as a removable disk in 'my computer'.
When i run the latest ipod updater (9/23)(Also have tried an older updater, same message) it says 'ipod service error'.
My ipod has been broke for a while now, when i tried this method at first ipod updater didn't find anything at all...so that's some kind of progress right?
Am using Windows PC.(case you didn't realise...which you did of course.)
Aslo, I really can't afford to buy a new one, or get the battery replaced(i think, dunno how much i costs. but its a lot right?)

You downloaded iTunes AND installed it, right? What you downloaded is the installer, which installs the iTunes app (and other things like drivers) on your computer. You then have to run the iTunes app.
If you did that already, make sure the USB docking cable's plug is completely inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document

When connected, the shuffle's light should come ON. That indicates it is getting power. If it blinks orange (at least initially), that indicates it is connecting for data.
If you are good so far, in iTunes, the sidebar (along left side of window) may be hidden. If it is, from the menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar. When the shuffle is connected, it should be listed in the sidebar, below DEVICES. Does it appear there?

I'd go ahead and give the following troubleshooting steps a shot:
1. Try the iPod troubleshooting assistant:
2. Restart the iPod Service
3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
6. Change your iPod's drive letter
7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys

I'd start at the top and work through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod nano.

You, my friend, are a life saver!!! I had the same problem today and I was freaking out. I was watching a video and went back to the menu and that's when it froze. None of the buttons would do anything. It sat like that with the backlight on for about three hours so the battery is just about drained now. I never knew about the Menu and Select button reset method until now.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

if you select the MacOSXUpdCombo10.7.5.dmg file which you’d downloaded, and press ⌘i to Get Info on it, what information is shown for it under ▼ General: Size? My initial guess is that you could have an incomplete download of that file.

Accessory not recognized by I Pod Touch

up till 2 days ago My I pod touch and both I pads recognized my JVC car stereo USB after plugging in but all of a sudden I get a " This Accessory not recognized by this I Pod/I Pad " My older I Pod Touch worked well that is until after checking I updated it in I Tunes, Very large Mistake as not it does not see the JVC either.
Like I said all this was working fine until 2 days ago and now nothing. I have reset all the I devices as well as the JVC stereo

Are you saying that the car system worked with the new devices before updating the iOS and then stopped after updating the iOS?
If so then
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Hpwever. sometimes an iOS update breaks compatibility. Have you checked for a firmware update to the car system?
