I-Pod Touch connect to portal Hard Disk

Hi,there,
I am a person with lots of pictures. It is almost everyday I'll have new pictures. Most of my pictures are stored in a portal hard disk. I have to turn on the computer and make sure portal HD using the same drive name and then I could syn pictures to i-pod touch. Say the truth, it is kind of scaring. If my portal HD doesn't catch the right drive, my i-pod touch will just crush.
Do anyone has the same experience but have a better idea than mine? Thank you in advance.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Can not connect an external hard disk

    Hello,
For the second time , I have a problem while connecting a external hard disk. (the first issue was not solved).
Previously, I was triying to connect my external hard disk. But my powerbook 10.4.11 could not see it. I could heart my external disk "running". It was doing a small repeatitly noisy. But in the finder, it was not displayed.
Now I am triying with another one and I am experiencing the smae problem. Finder does not displayed it.
I guess the USB port does not display enough power. But I am not sure.
Do you have a idea how can I solve my proble in order to be able to see external hard disk and copy file in it?
    Many thank for your help

I connected the external hard disk to a pc and checked the in disk management management tools. I activate the partition of the external hard disk, then I reconnected it to my Powerbook 10.4.11 and FInder can not see it...

  • Can I connect an external hard disk to time capsule? I tried but it doesn't show up. What would be the reason??

Can I connect an external hard disk to time capsule? I tried but it doesn't show up. What would be the reason??

The USB drive must be formatted for Mac in Mac OS Extended (Journaled), or if you want to use both Mac and Windows files, the drive can be formatted in FAT32.
A number of drives are formatted for Windows only in a format called NTFS. This willl not work on the Time Capsule.
In addition, the USB port on the Time Capsule is under powered. You almost always have to use a powered USB hub when you connect a drive to the Time Capsule...even if the drive has its own power supply.

  • Can connect to USB Hard Disk via OS X 10.5, but not 10.5?

I'm able to connect to my USB Hard Disk in OS X 10.5 by simply going to "SHARED" in the Finder, but I don't see it anywhere in OS X 10.4. My 10.5 computer is connected to the AirPort Extreme via wireless, my 10.4 computer (it's actually OS X Server 10.4.11 ) is connected via a LAN port.
If I go to the Finder and select "Network" I just see "Servers" which shows the 10.4 system I'm on. I don't see anything about the AirPort Extreme or USB Hard Disk connected to it.
Any ideas on how I can see the USB Hard Disk on OS X Server 10.4.11 connected to the AirPort Extreme via a LAN port?
    Thanks!

You should be able to connect to the disk via SMB from your 10.4 computer. Do you know the IP of the airport express base station? If so, use the Go menu from the Finder of the 10.4 machine and use *Connect to Server*. Enter the Server Address as smb://basestation.ip.address.here and click connect. It should present you with a login box and then mount your shares when you provide the correct credentials.
On my airport extreme base station I have File Sharing enabled with base station password, guest access NOT allowed. My credentials are my account username (probably doesn't matter what name you put) and the base station password. It mounts the shared disk perfectly.
Under 10.5, this method (for me anyway) has been MUCH more reliable than using the Airdisk feature. I disabled Airdisk on the client and now I always mount the share using SMB this way. It seems snappier and the problem where I used to get a drive mounted but then be unable to see anything on it has gone away.
If you want it to automount each login (I know this method works on 10.5, can't remember about 10.4) use the *Connect to Server* dialog and enter the Server Address then click the + sign to add the server to your Favorites (the box under the Server Address line.) Then go to your Library folder in your Home directory. You will see the link you put in Favorites stored there as a file. Drag that file into the Login Items list in your user account in the Accounts pane in the System preferences. To see the connection on your desktop you need to make sure you have your Finder Preferences set to show *Connected Servers* on your Desktop. Click on the Finder menu (when you have Finder selected), then Preferences.

  • W7 can't connect on TC hard disk

Hi, i actually have a mac and pc business network, all computers on the network can access to Internet and access to sharing files on both mac and pc. But all pc using Windows 7 can't directly access to the time capsule Hard disk, pc using Windows XP can easily connect on it. All computers use the same account and password setting.
So.... what wrong with time capsule?
    regards,

Hello Vhenzor. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
There are a number of posts related to copying issues between Windows 7 and AirPort Disks. Two potential solutions being forwarded are: 1) Changing the LAN Manager authentication level, and/or 2) Disabling the Windows Search feature.
To change the LAN Manager authentication level:
o From the Vista desktop, click Start
    o Search for: security
    o Click 'Local Security Policy'
o Goto Local Policies > Security Options
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: LAN Manager authentication level'
o Change level to: Send LM & NTLM responses
o Under Policy, double-click 'Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP based (including RPC) clients'
    o De-select 'Require 128-bit encryption'
    o Click OK
    To disable Windows Search:
    o Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features
o On the right-hand side, click "Turn Windows features on/off"
o Scroll down, and de-select "Windows Search".
o Press OK, close all windows and restart.
A third "solution," that has worked for me, is verify that both the TC and the Win7 PC are using the exact same Workgroup Name. In my case, I use "WORKGROUP" (without the quote marks) for this name.
On the TC, you would enter this value on the Disks > File Sharing tab.
On Win7, Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System > Change Settings > Change > Workgroup

  • How to restore my Ipod touch into a new hard disk/computer?

Guys, my Laptop's hard drive was crash and all my songs and applications were the only copy I had. However, I had no idea how to restore my musics and application back to the library after I had replace a new hard disk. I went through online to check out some solutions but basically they required a software to retrieve those music and they cost money. I don't think I deserve this since I had spent $70 to get a new hard disk. The worst was mostly they only able to restore musics and videos. I don't think they're able to restore the applications, please give me some advises. Thanks

You should always maintain a backup. If you fail to do this you are asking to lose your data.
    You can transfer itunes purchases:
    File>Transfer Purchases
Unlike music and videos, you can re-download apps:

  • AirPort Extreme Connection Failed with Hard Disk EVERYDAY!

This is getting really annoying now, I have currently three x 2TB hard drives plugged into the AirPort Extreme via a 4 Bay Enclosure.
Everyday, now and then, the connection fails. Meaning it wont let me backup and says "Couldn't find disk". And nor can I access the hard drives on the AirPort Extreme with finder, it just says Connection Failed. Nor can I open up airport utility, it says Reading Settings and then it says "input password to check settings on AirPort Extreme" so I put in the password and it loops over again.
Only way I can fix it is unplugging and pugging the AirPort Extreme back in.. WHY!!!!!!!!!?????? The AEBSn is in my basement along with the drives, it's very very very annoying. How do I fix it?
ALSO I NOTICED THAT THE INTERNET ONLY WORKS ON MY MACBOOK AIR and DOES NOT WORK ON MY WINDOWS 7 MACHINE, when this happens.

Exact same problem here.  It used to really work well, Time Machine and all -- some Airport Extreme firmware revisions back.  But whether it's changes to firmware or something else I don't know.  It just started dropping the share point all the time and I'd have to restart or power cycle the Extreme to get it back.  The shared printing to an HP Laserjet 1200 connected to the Extreme consistently works, never fails from any Mac in the house.
My solution:  I gave up.  I have a good high-powered hub -- the one I was using for printer and hard drive on the Extreme -- that can consistently support two externally powered USB drives.  (I already have another external hard drive connected to my MacBook Air because my iTunes library finally outgrew the Air's built-in drive.)  So I took the hub from the Extreme, plugged it in to the Air, connected my iTunes library hard drive and the storage/Time Machine hard drive to the hub.
Honestly, I prefer it this way.  Printing works great via the Extreme USB connected printer.  The network connection locally and to the Internet works great.  Now Time Machine consistently works with the drive locally connected.  I wouldn't even trade it for a Time Capsule because I'd still be dealing with Wi-Fi speeds.  Doing a full Time Machine backup, about 107 GB, to the networked Time Machine volume took about 9 hours over pure 802.11n.  Incremental backups and indexing those backups sometimes slowed my Air to a crawl.  Connected via the hub to the Air the full backup took 90 minutes and incrementals I don't even notice are running.  I rarely have reason to retrieve things from Time Machine, but just going into it takes like no time now.  As fast or faster than starting other applications.  And when I go mobile with the Air, I just eject the external hard drives and pull the hub's USB connector.
Sorry I don't have anything in the way of a real solution.  But I'd long ago switched the other Macs in the house to locally connected external USB drives for Time Machine -- and nobody makes critical changes to the data on those Macs on a regular basis, anyway.
So I just got sick of pulling my hair out, I was the only one using the Airport Extreme networked drive for Time Machine or anything else.  I threw in the towel.  I spend two or three times the money on Macs than "comparable" Windows computers would cost me and I do that because I'm not by trade a technician.  I just want to do my work, the part of it requring a computer, with no hassles.  I can learn these technical troubleshooting things but that gets in the way of what I really do for work.  So when I have my pricey Mac not properly connecting to my pricey Airport Extreme and I've spent hours and hours reconfiguring and trying to suss it out, I'll happily concede the battle and get back to the rest of my life.

    Try resetting your SMC.
Resetting the SMC of an Intel-based portable Mac with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: This will not delete any data.
The SMC is responsible for controlling various system functions. None of your data will be deleted by resetting the SMC.
Shut down the computer by going to Apple () > Shut Down…
Select Shut Down or allow the computer to shut down automatically.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter into a power source and then connect it to your Mac if you have not already done so.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
Release the (left side) Shift (⇧), Control (⌃), and Option (⌥) keys and the Power Button at the same time.
    I hope I helped.

  • Problem with Lightroom 5: how to connect the app with my original pictures which are on a external hard disk and, once this resolved,  how to create virtual pictures

A friend has  installed Lightroom 5  on my MacBook air. he  transferred all my picture that were on my IPhone an on Iphoto on Lightroom but without making virtual copies systematically. He put the original (real?) pictures on a external hard disk under Data_photos folder to allow more memory space on my Mac book Air. My problem now that when I connect the external hard disk with my computer the connexion does not happen automatically. it is like if Lightromm does not recognize the path to get connected to the original/real picture and therefore I cannot see pictures with all their potential and I cannot work on these. I am stuck! What should I do to 1) create this link? 2) create then virtual copies in order to be able to work on my computer without been obliged to connect my external hard disk to be able to use the application Lightroom. The friend who helped me disappeared! He is not in Japan and unable to help me.I hope you can help me. I have been looking for support to apple stores, photo shops, computer specialists but I have not found the expert capable to help me. I am leaving in Geneva. And believe that I should have some one with me physically to resolve a problem which I believe is not a serious one if one knows lghtroom an dinformatic basics... thank in advance to come back to me asap !!!!

  • Can I connect my atv2 to a hard disk?

I used to have atv1 and I loved the fact of having my pictures and movies on it without having to connect to my itunes.  Now that I have atv2 I would like to have it connected to a hard disk constantly, is this possible? I also have airport time capsule but it is full as it constantly makes backups of my mac.  Maybe I could use this time capsule and save some space for pictures and movies and connect it to my atv2??....  I'm a bit lost with this atv2...  Even though I hated my atv1 for being full fast, now I don't feel like buying movies as I have no where to save them unless my computer is on and with the itunes open and with my hard disk (that contains my library with all the movies and pictures) connected to my computer and being shared with my atv2.... What a mess!!...  PLEASE GIVE ME SUGGESTIONS!

You cannot connect a hard drive to AppleTV 2.
You can store your iTunes media on Time Capsule, but it must be referenced in iTunes, and iTunes must be running unfortunately to stream to ATV2 - you can do this by copying the media to a TC folder, then adding the media to iTunes without copying to the computer's hard drive.  Uncheck the box arrowed below, then drag and drop the mdeia to iTunes:
    Oops
(Note holding 'option' key will temporarily toggle the behaviour of this setting if you are dragging and dropping content to itunes).
Another option for you would be to add an external USB or Firewire drive to the computer (better option, less network traffic).
Whatever you do, before moving/reorganising itunes media make sure yoiu have a backup!
