I-pod touch not charging

Had this i-pod touch for one year. Hasn't been misused and now not charging. Apple shows on screen when charging, but freezes-up and doesn't charge.

I am having this same problem as well. I have the 8gb 2nd generation and for some reason it will only charge on my work pc, which is no longer allowed. I have tried my desktop and 2 laptops at home and still does not charge. I even have the powermat wireless charger and it doesn't work with that either, nor does plugging it into a wall outlet. It has been giving me trouble like this for the last 2 months. It's warranty expired 3 months ago...go figure. It is only a little over a year old and has not been misused either. When I took it to work the last time I even did a factory reset on it and that did not solve the problem either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. Cost depends upon model and capacity and you get the same model/capacity back

If that doesn't work you can restore it.
    1. Make sure your iPod is turned off.
    2. Hold down the Home-button.
    3. Launch iTunes on your computer.
    4. Connect it to the computer.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your iPod.
Note: Only do this if you've synchronized it so your data is safe. Re-store will delete everything on the iPod.

  • TS1567 5th Gen I-Pod Touch not Syncing, does come up on PC.

My 5th Gen I-Pod Touch no longer connects to I-Tunes, or Microsoft Sync (In my 2013 Ford Focus) through a sync cable. My computer however, does see the I-pod as a external device, and it does charge through the Sync cable.
I have reset the I-Pod fully, and it still would not connect. I checked and the I-Pod and the version of I-Tunes is the newest version of each.
    I-Pod: 7.1.1 (11D201)
    I-Tunes 11.1.5.5
I ran the I-Tunes Diagnostics for the Device Connectivity test, and Device Sync test both, and received the following.

iPod support service is running. (Green Dot)
iTunes Helper is running. (Green Dot)

I have tried two Sync cables in both my car and Itunes, with the same results.
    Any help would be appreciated.

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...  Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • My i-pod will not charge

Hi - My i-pod seems to have died and will not charge - any clues - thanks

Have you worked through all the troubleshooting here?

    iPod won't turn on
Keep in mind that a completely discharged battery can take up to 30 minutes of charging before it shows any signs of life and even after that a hard reset is still sometimes necessary to get the iPod to boot up.

  • I pod will not charge. Battery Failure??

Ok, I have seen this posted before and I have read through all of the suggestions, but none of them have worked so far. Any help would be great.
The computer recognizes the Ipod, when plugged into the usb its glows solid yellow like it is charging. A few hours ago the light turned green... fully charged right? But when I unplugged it, the battery light did not come on. And the pod did nothing. Ok.. maybe it wasn't fully charged. I plugged it back in and now it is still charging again like it had not been charging at all. I have charged USB ports to see if this would help, but could this just be a broken battery situation. At one point it was working, then it just seemed to have died. I have had problems from the start with this thing. Suggestions?

Maybe it's the cable itself that is faulty. Have you tried it with a new USB cable?

  • 3rd Generation Touch not charging, getting hot

I have a 3rd Generation touch that has been working fine. It needed to be charged, so I plugged it into my computer and it got very hot, would not charge and I got an error message on my computer. I uploaded a screen shot of the error message.  I have a 2009, 24inch iMac. Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? Thanks in Advance!

... Do you think it could just be the death of my touch?
No, I'm afraid that's just the battery's normal failure mode. They don't last forever.
Your probably don't have the touch of death but pardon me if we don't shake hands.
The battery replacement is only $79 from Apple: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/

  • I Pod Touch - not recieving e mails

Help. I have just been given an I Pod Touch nothing in that other that I am the wrong side of 70. All appeared to be going welland I got and sent my first e mail ( i have wireless connection for my computer) then as of today mail came to my computer but didnt come to my I pod. Any ideas why would be appreciated

Did you set up a POP account or an IMAP account? If the latter, your server will "know" that you've already seen the email on your computer and so won't send it to your Touch. If it's a POP account, check your SMTP setting and make sure it's the correct one for your account. Good luck!

    - Try another cable
    - Try another charging source
    - Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, cracked or broken plastic.

  • Why is my 4th generation ipod touch not charge? I plug it into the computer and the wall and with 2 different usb cables and its not charging. When its plugged in it shows the icon for charging but the battery never increases and it dies once i disconnect

I have a 4th generation Ipod Touch. It has been working for months when yesterday the battery started acting werid. I was driving and it was connected with the usb charger cable to my car stereo when all the sudden my music stopped and the stereo could not recognize my ipod at all. When I got back home, I tried to charge it so it wouldnt die but even while on the charger in the wall the battery continued to die. I charged it over night (the first time I have ever charged it over night) desperately to have battery for a 4 o clock plane flight so I would have entertianment. The ipod died over night while on the charger. When I unplugged it from the usb charging cable I noticed that the icon telling me the ipod needed to be charged came up. So I plugged it back in. The charging thunder bolt symbol popped up next to the very small red strip on the left side of the battery indicating that the ipod had no charge to turn its self on. I tried plugging it in on the computer, the wall ac charger and a stereo system made just for the ipod that also pluggs into the wall. I have used 2 different cables, the result being the same that the ipod held no charge, and it wouldnt charge at all while on the charger, and it would imediately die once i take it off the charger.
I have not idea what has happened ....
    Please help
    THanks!

    - While charging try resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next try restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if still problem restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - However, I really think that the iPod has a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.  If defective Apple should give you a refurbished iPod.

  • 1st generation ipod touch not charging/syncing to my Mac.

My ipod touch 1st generation is not syncing or charging to my mac.  In fact I have 2 - of the same ipods and both suddenly quit syncing/charging.  Although I have used the same docking port on my mac for months ... I tried a different port and still nothing.  The ipod lights up with the apple screen and then goes to the home screen - but nothing happens after that.   ITunes shows no devices as well.  The ipod just eventually goes to sleep.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • 1st edition touch not charging. How do I get it to charge?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Is it connected to a USB port or power adapter that DID previously charge this iPod touch successfully?
When connected to a computer's USB port, does it power ON, and does it appear in iTunes (even though it does not appear to charge)?

  • I-pod is not charging.

I have only been able to charge my i-pod one time since I got it.  And then it only had a short charge.   I have trying to charge it with a wall outlet not my computer.  It will never turn on unless it is plugged in.  What is wrong with this thing?

How old is this iPod? If you only recently purchased it, return it for a refund or replacement. Or if you have an Apple Store nearby, schedule an appointment with the Genius Bar and show them what you are experiencing.  If the Nano is still under its 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects or you purchased Apple Care for the device and it is still valid, they should swap it out for you at no cost.
