I pod touch will not start or reset

I have an I pod touch which will not start at all. I have tried 2 different chargers and to no avail. The screen does nothing at all.........just black.
I cannot reset it as the red band does not appear.
As far as I know, the battery is probably discharged, although I have tried to charge it up in an attempt to get it to turn on.
I would appreciate any help as I am reluctant to just throw away a piece of kit that is barely 2 years old!
Thanks all.
Clive

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Dead i-touch - will not start

My i-pod touch will not start; I have tried the on/menu button by itself and in combination with the button at the top to reset, but nothing happens.
If i plug the charger in or connect it to i-tunes the apple logo appears for about ten seconds and the screen then goes blank - any ideas on what the problem is? (i-tunes does not recognise that the touch has been connected)
I got a usb logo pointing to something else yesterday, but this has not reappeared.

I had the exact same problem with mine. Was hoping to see a response posted here but since I didn't I took mine to the Apple store where they ended up replacing it. Not exactly the solution I was hoping for, but at least I have an operating Ipod again.

My ipod touch will not start up and the menu will stay on menu of Itunes. Who can help me?

    Hi,
Have you tried a hard reset of your iPod?  Press/hold the home and sleep/wake buttons down until the Apple logo appears.
    Hope this helps!

Have you tried to restore the iPod via iTunes on the computer? See the restoring topic on:

If not successful, what happens when you try to restore the iPod?  Any error messages?

  • IPad will not start. Reset DOES NOT work. Connecting to iTunes DOES NOT work

My iPad went dead and sat for a few days before I plugged it in. Now it will not start. It has been plugged in for 2+ days now with OEM charger. The apple logo will show for a couple seconds and it turns off. Reset DOES NOT do anything. If I unplug it, nothing happens, no apple logo, no reset, nothing. Plugged into iTunes it will not do anything. The only time I get it to show activity is plugged into charger and like I said, as soon as the logo appears it shuts down and repeats this over and over until I unplug.

See if you can have any success with recovery mode.

If that doesn't work, then make an appointment at an Apple Store and let a genius have a look.

  • My I Pod touch will not charge on any computer, with any cable or in any wall outlet.  No sleep mode....nothing.  I can not get it to power on at all now

I have tried multiple cables, multiple computers and it appears to be dead.  When I went to the Apple Store they tried to sell me a new one.....not what I wanted.  I asked about a new battery but was told no.  How do I retrieve the data on my I Pod???  Cannot even look into resetting it because it will not power on at all.

    Not Charge
    - See:
    iPod touch: Hardware troubleshooting
    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod Touch will not start completely or connect to iTunes

Ipod touch (about 15 months old), will not fully start.  I can get it to shut down by holding the power and home buttons,
When I turn it back on, I will see the Apple logo for a few seconds and then see the clockwise spinning circle.  The circle will spin for hours with nothing else happening.
I tried connecting it to iTunes and it recognizes it has been attached, but it is asking for the passcode.  I can't get the iPod to the passcode enter screen.
Any ideas?  I have no idea if and when if was last updated as it is my nephews.
    Any help is appreciated.

  • IPod Touch will not start.

Hi, A few days ago my iPod Touch randomly stopped working. It now refuses to turn on and It will not connect to my computer. I Only got the iPod this Christmas.
    Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. I've had the iPod a little over a month, it's bought off craigslist brandnew still in the package. I went to a baseball game and everything was fine. I got on the bus and was on the iPod using it when it out of no where reset itself and when it turned back on the connect to itunes logo appeared. So i reset and it did the same thing so i figured i would just shut it off and plug it in when i got home, however when I went to do that it was unresponsive. It wont respond to another reset and itunes wont recognize it the computer wont even pick it up..so I'm guessing mine is most likely a hardware failure. Which is covered by the warranty..however like i said I bought mine off a site like ebay. But it was brand new so i dont think it was tampered with. I'm hoping someone will respond to this to help.

  • I Pod touch Will not Update Software

HI, I got an I Pod Touch Model MC540LL (Dont know what Generation it is), Ive tried several times to update software from 4.3.3 to the new 5.0.1? Is that possible? When I try updating using Itunes, the downloading stops and tells me (server reset) I am trying to restore settings to my I Pod because I lost my Passcode for the restriction function (the Restriction function is stuck on (ON)). I am unable to do this with out updating software. Is there any way to restore my I Pod without updating software?

Yours is a iPod Touch 4th generation with 8 GB storage. Yes, it's possible to update to 5.0.1. Do you have the latest iTunes 10.5.2? Update iTunes and do a restore.

  • I-Pod Touch will not turn on..

I recently found my I-Pod after months and now it wont turn on. When I plug in the Apple Issued Charger, the screen lights up with the Apple Logo and then dims and turns off again. It will repeatedly do this. I have let it sit for about 2 hours hopeing that it would start charging, but no luck. I have attempted the "restore" option in the forums, but again with no success. Is there another option I could use?
The I-Pod does not even register in my Itunes
