I probably already know the answer but... Dictionary for Pages???

I'm trying to convert to Pages from MS Word. I really like a lot of things about it, but the number one problem I'm having is automatic word correction. In MS Word, most misspellings are corrected automatically. In Pages, this is not the case. I have added a few commonly misspelled words to the Auto Correction window in Preferences (e.g., "teh" is now replaced with "the") -- but I can't possibly do this for every word in the dictionary.
My questions: (1) Am I missing something? (2) Is there a download or an add-in that will automatically add hundreds of entries to the Auto-Correction Window?
Thanks - BR

I guess I'll wait to see if Apple improves the product over time. I'm sure they will.
It's always possible, but be realistic about it: These kinds of new features only get added every two years or so.

  • I think I know the answer,but...

    Hi everyone.
I think I already know the answet to this question, but I'll better make sure. I need to go over a friend's house for some work and she has wireless connection over her place. Her Mac works with this connection, however hers is a much newer model than mine. I was wondering if I must have the AirPort to connect to the wireless internet in her home.
    I do, don't I?
    Thanks!

I was wondering if I must have the AirPort to connect to the wireless internet in her home.
If you want to connect wirelessly, you need AirPort or a third-party component which supports either the 802.11b or 802.11g protocols. Some wireless base stations provide an Ethernet port which doesn't require a wireless connection to use, but the computer needs to stay near the base station.

  • I guess I know the answer, but here's hoping.......

I have three machines all connected to the same .Mac/IMAP account.
I lent one to my son. He accessed Mail and not wishing to be presented with my emails deleted them all. Being nothing if not thorough he then emptied the Trash folder too.
Of course that machine then Synchnorised with the .Mac server and deleted the mail there which as a consequence deleted mail on all other machines too.
This is of course a real dissappointment especially as we had the preference "Keep copies of messages..." set to "All messages and their attachments".
So the question is - even though Mail keeps local copies of messages, they're deleted from the server the local copies are deleted as well (without using the local trash?) and there's no possible way back?
I guess the only solution is to use Backup daily to store the local copies and recover form there if one's kith-and-kin become over-enthusiastic with the cleaning-up thing?

    Sorry to be confusing.
Within the structure of our current machine we have ~/library/mail
Inside mail we have one folder per account in mail.
Inside the folder for the .Mac/IMAP account are folders with an extension .imapmbox(for example "INBOX.imapmbox"). Within this folder are the *.emlx files.
Inside the folders for the POP accounts are folders with the extension .mbox (for example "INBOX.mbox"). Within this folder are the *.emlx files.
What I was trying to suggest was our belief that, when one of the machines connected the .Mac account deleted .Mac mails it in effect deleted the *.emlx files in the .imapmbox folder for that .Mac account. However as there never was a POP account on this machine the presence of so many, very large, .mbox files gives us reason to hope.
    ProSoft Engineering (DataRescue2) came back with the following note that I add here only to support the thread;
    ---------------------------------(Copyright ProSoft Eng)-----
Here is some additional information about recovering EMLX files:
Starting with Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4), Apple Mail stores messages in .emlx files, one message per file.
Data Rescue II (when the EMLX feature is enabled) can recover these .emlx files with a thorough or
deleted file scan. It takes a bit of finagling to get the recovered files back into Apple Mail, and this
note documents a way to do that.
Assume the files had been accidentally deleted, and you do a Deleted File scan on your volume to
find them. Following the scan, the .emlx files found will be under folders in CBR/Mail/AppleMail,
AppleMail1, AppleMail2, etc. Recover all these AppleMail folders to a safe place on a different
volume than you found them on. (The reason for this is that until you have recovered all the files
you want, they are still vulnerable to being overwritten if you write to the scan volume. Once you've
recovered everything you're interested in recovering from the scanned volume, this is no longer an
    issue.)
Start Apple Mail if it's not already started, and create a new Mailbox. Call it Recovered, for example.
It should show up as an empty mailbox on the left side of the window, along with the other
mailboxes. Once that appears, quit Apple Mail.
In one Finder window, navigate to your home folder, then down into Library/Mail/Mailboxes and then
on into the new mailbox you created, Recovered. In Recovered, create a new folder named
    Messages, and select that.
In another Finder window, navigate to the place where you recovered your AppleMail folder(s).
Repeat the following for each AppleMail folder: navigate into the folder and select all the messages
there. Drag them to the Messages folder in the other Finder window. If you have thousands of
messages, be patient; the Finder will be slow.
Once you have copied all the emlx files to the Messages folder you created, restart Apple Mail and
select the Recovered mailbox, then go to the Mailboxes menu and select Rebuild. After a little while,
the Recovered mailbox will be rebuilt and you should see all your messages in the message list.
Once you have your recovered messages present, you can then reorganize them. For example, say
you want to separate out messages that you sent from the others. Make sure you have the
Recovered mailbox selected. Type your email in Mail's Search window, then make sure the search
column has "Recovered" (instead of All Mailboxes) selected, and select the From column (instead of
Entire Message or To or Subject). Now all the messages sent by you in the Recovered mailbox should
be visible. Select them all and drag them into a different folder, wherever you want them to be. In
my case, I chose to create a Sent mailbox as a sub-mailbox of the Recovered mailbox, and put them
in there. Probably dragging them to my normal Sent folder would have worked also.
Launch the Data Rescue II application. When the loading is completed, hold the control key then click
on the Data Rescue II logo on the bottom left corner of the main Data Rescue II window. Go to the
menubar and select Expert->Special Features. Please forward to us the information provided on that
window. The serial, version, and most importantly the Challenge code. After we receive that, we will
send you a feature key that you will enter on the Feature Key field. The Install button should be
enabled for you to click. You can now run the scan.

  • From one who should know the answers but doesn't

I guess I'm getting too old for some of the references. To me, 3:2:2:2 has more to do with my old Pontiac GTO and it's 3 two barrel carburetors than video. (0-to-60 in 4.4)
Is there one(!) definitive book, white paper, website, authority on what all the pulldowns, push ups and "can't use it like it is, gotta' change it to something" talk is all about?
Kinda' reminds me of the local football play by play guy who can't seem to describe what's going on without dazzling somebody with his blue 4's and red dog wideouts...
You know it must be important because people nod and say, "oh yeah"... like they understand. I don't, how do I get smart like everybody else?

    Hi John,
    I bought this book...

Optimizing Your Final Cut Pro System
I worked through the parts that were relevent to my day to day work, and use the book as a reference for specific jobs, or when I get outside my comfort zone.

  • I think I know the answer but just to be sure - connecting a data cable & the ONT box....

So I have an ONT box with Coax out - it provides TV, phone & data. I have a PC I'd like to connect, unfortunately it isn't wireless & even if it were, it is too far from the router to pick up wireless. However it is close to the ONT box so running a cable from there would be ideal. However my understanding is if you are wired with Coax, the ethernet port in the box is disabled.
So is my only option running physical cable from my router to this PC? It is a very long run and it wouldn't be easy. Any other suggestions or is the only way?
    Thanks,

    That is correct.
Since you have coax at the ONT, your main splitter is probably close by.
You could connect a MOCA adapter to your main splitter.
That would give you an ethernet port you could connect to.
Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?

  • I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a dell computer at home that has clip art available on it for putting pictures into documents.  Do I need to install an APP to get something similar to clip art?

I have a question that I think I know the answer to, but am looking for confirmation.  I have a desktop computer at home that has clip art loaded onto it.  I recently got an iPad and am looking for something similar.  I assume I need to get an APP for it, and if that is correct, does anyone have one that they like?

Sort of.  There is an app called art shop that gives you a place to park clip art.   But I don't think you really need it.
If you have a collection of clip art you want available, move it to the camera roll on your pad/ phone, then copy paste into your document the clip you want.
You can get them into the camaera roll by putting them in a single event in your picture library and syncing them over,  or e mail them to your self, and save to the camera roll, or send them to drop box, and bring them down that way.
The challenge is getting them all in one place to make it easy for you to find, which is why syncing might be the best approach in the long run.
As near as I can tell there is not a ready made clip art collection in app format laying around.

I have just updated to FCPX 10.1 but my new libraries do not contain any of my previous events or projects - any body know the answer?

Did you select the "update old events and projects"  option?
Are the originals on external hard drives that aren't connected at the moment?
Exactly how did you upgrade to 10.1?

i don't know the answers to my Apple ID security questions, idon't see the link to send a reset email, but i have a rescue address.

If you aren't getting the reset link on your account then that implies that you don't have a rescue email address - are you sure that it's not an alternate email address instead ?
If you aren't getting the link then you will have to contact Support in your country to get the questions reset.

  • When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb.But the output records is originally 4000 records. When copy to new excel it is showing 3.5 mb only. Does anyone knows the answer for this issue?

When running an xml publisher report the xml output leads to 9 mb and the excel output file leads to 20 mb. The records contained in excel file is 4000 records. When taking the excel records and copy to new excel file the excel file size is 3.5 mb only. Why does the oracle software generates 20mb file?
Does any one knows the answer please advice?

    Hello,
This issue is because the Excel output from BI Publisher is MHTML (XML Publisher generates XHTML) not binary .xls.
MHTML and XHTML are more verbose formats than binary .xls.
It will be large because the current Excel output is just an HTML and not compressed like PDF. Please use the workaround (save it as .xls file).  This is a known limitation of RTF layout templates.
BI Publisher Enterprise has a new feature True Excel Templates. The layouts generate binary Excel output.
Excel Output File Size Generated By BI Publisher is Very Large (Doc ID 760437.1)
