I purchased a Blu-Ray Movie, How Do I Play it on iTunes & iDevices?

I was cleaning my apartment today and I found a copy of The Dark Knight that I purchased when it was released (2009 I beleive) and it has 3 discs and 1 of them says Digital Copy in DVD format. I inserted that disc into my iMac and it took me to iTunes>Devices>Digital Copy and it asked for a code. I inputed the code on the print out and it stated it was invalid. I re-typed the code and same error. I looked at the small print and found out the code expired 12/2009.
I tried Warner Bros' website but they were no help.
I purchased this movie for something like $25 and I want to have it on my iPhone and iPad. The code that I never redeemed expired and I do not want to buy the movie again. Is it possible to rip the movie using a Blu-Ray burner and convert it into an iPhone/iPad friendly format? If so, how do you go about that? What file format is the right one?
I legally bought this title and it's a bit frustrating to find out I can't view it how I want due to an expired code.

Yeah, it's a bit slimy what they do with the short-lived digital version codes and sometimes you even see the DVDs for sale new in a store with the code already expired.
And, yes, it is still illegal to rip your DVD even though you have purchased viewing rights to the movie already.  It's the actual ripping process that's illegal regardless of why it is done, and even asking about how to do this on Apple's site can get a topic removed (it's specifically prohibited in the Terms of Use).
Oh, I guess you could write the DVD makers and ask if a code can be issued, but as you have found it's not really in their intere$t because right now your only option for a digital version is to go out and buy the movie all over again in digital format from somebody like Apple.

I purchased a blu ray movie of Expendables 2 that came with a i tunes digital copy of the film. But when i redeemed my code  i was given a HD copy of the film.So when i try to sync it onto my ipod it says it cannot be played on my ipod.I am assuming the reason it is not compatible with my i pod is because it is a HD copy of the film.Would like to be compensated w another code to redeem a non HD copy.

    That is correct.
Head to the iTunes Store, click the Purchased link on the right, and then select Movies and remove the tick mark next to Download HD when available.  You might be able to download the SD version now from under this same page. Any luck there?

just purchased blue ray movie from store with a redemption code but will not download with out inserting disc I have a macbook air

I am experiencing the same thing. I have many books that I used to read on my iPad.
Now on iBooks in Mavericks all my books downloaded correctly apart from two which I really want to work (The Lean Startup and Communicating The User Experience).
When I download both using the cloud icon just when it reaches 100% I get this message:
[Insert Book Name] failed to download
To try again, select Check for Available Downloads from the Store menu.
When I check for available downloads it says I have already downloaded all my books.
Anyone know how to fix this.
I do realise that this is only v1 of iBooks so I hope Apple sorts it out soon.
    Thanks!!!

  • How can I play a Blu-Ray movie on an iMac?

What do I need to buy to play Blu-Ray movies on my new iMac?

It is in the link I posted in my reply.
A software to play blu ray disk
    You can also try VLC
The new 2.0 release of VLC Media Player says it can handle Blu-Ray video disks. Being free, there's no risk in trying:

  • Redeem a Code from a Blu-Ray Movie

Can anyone help me or have any suggestions for the last month at least twice a day I've tried to redeem a code that I've gotten with the purchase of the Blu-Ray movie Parker.
Every time that I've tried to redeem I'm getting this message when ever I've tried to download or pick later has an option I'm getting this message... Code redemption is temporarily unavailable. Try Again later. But all of the other codes that I've redeemed 9 other movies in the same period and no problem ? Can anyone have suggestions....?
    Thank You,
    Yours Truly
    Mario

My problem did correct itself... I'm not sure how exactly so I won't be much help. I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything many times and that never helped. I did take my firewall down and made some changes in Nortons as far as blocking and allowing things through, anything apple related I let through. Then I just keep trying with no luck to download the movie and the update. I left my computer on and running all night and when I woke up the next morning both of the downloads were completed.... I honestly don't know exactly what I did. It may have been because I let it try all night on it's own. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!!

  • Watching blu-ray movies on mac pro?

    Hello,
I have a 3.0 Harpertown Mac Pro and was wondering how the performance is when watching a 1080p blu-ray movie using windvd under windows 7? My current video card is the ATI Radeon 4870 Mac edition and my monitor is the 24 inch cinema display with isight.
I just purchased from owc an internal blu-ray drive. I have really been spending my money on middle of the summer clothing rather than more memory on my mac pro. My current mac pro memory is at 2GB. With the video card I have + monitor and memory, will I be able to power a 1080p blu-ray movie?

I play Blu Ray movies on my Mac Pro (early 2009, 16 GB RAM) w/MCE Blu Ray drive and an ATI HD 4870 video card. I use Vista Ultimate and Corel WinDVD 9 Plus w/Blu Ray to play them and the quality is superb.
I don't know what the minimum RAM would be but I'd guess that 2GB would give questionable results.
    Good luck.

  • I purchased a blu-ray of The Hunger Games and it came with a code for a digital copy. I redeemed the code on iTunes but the download has been continuing for 2 weeks now and it never finishes! The time just keeps going up. Never an issue in the past.

I purchased the blu-ray of The Hunger Games and it came with a code to redeem for a digital copy. I redeemed the code in iTunes and the movie downloaded fine, but the "EXTRAS" have been downloading for 2 weeks! Everytime I launch iTunes it starts the download again and the counter keeps going UP, at one point it said it would take 3 weeks. I have paused and restarted the download, I have deleted the download, nothing works to finish or stop this download! Does anyone have a clue what's up?

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

  • Blu-ray movies no longer play on ANY program

    To whom it may concern,
I purchased Corel WinDVD Pro 11, hoping it would resolve an issue I'm having with playing blu-ray movies on my HP as of late. HP MediaSmart randomly stopped working (note, I have changed nothing on the computer since it stopped working).
On HP MediaSmart I get the message "The content is protected. The content is not allowed to play in the current display mode."
On Corel WinDVD Pro 11 (which it used to play movies a few months ago with the trial, thus me trusting in you guys, I purchased the program) it now says "Your display environment does not support protected content playback." Thus, I deleted the trial before it even expired.
I do not use an alternate display, I use the HP2310 monitor I bought with my computer. A Radeon 2700 series HD graphics card. And my factory DVD/blu-ray drive.
Please help! This is the only blu-ray player I have, and I got a bunch of new blu-rays for both my birthday and Christmas that I can't even watch. =(
    Respectfully,
    Justin T

  • Can I burn a Blu-Ray movie on an Imac?

I'm aware of the issues involving Blu-Ray playback on Mac.....my question is simple though:
If I use Final Cut to make a blu-ray movie and purchase an external blu-ray burner, can I make a blu-ray video disk for playback on a blu-ray player hooked up to a television?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

OWC's hardware product descriptions, for example
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRF8BDSD8X/
says that you can. However, current Apple software cannot burn to Blu-ray discs. Third-party software, such as Toast 10
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/titanium/overview.html
should be able to burn to Blu-ray discs. I am not sure if this capability is just for burning data discs, or if it can create Blu-ray movie discs.

  • Blue-ray Movies

I have recently purchased a Blue-ray drive for my Powermac G5 and was wondering if there was software that would allow me to watch Blue-ray movies on my Mac.

I contacted MCE and they told me at this time there is no software that will allow someone to view a Blue-ray movie on a Mac. That is very disappointing. It sems such a program would sell quite nicely. Thanks for the tip.

  • ATI 3870 fan noise;  Blu-ray movie playback works with 3870.

Is there a better fan/heatsink for 3870? I just replaced my stock 7300GT with 3870 but fan noise is annoying and is louder than my Mac Pro system fans. Thanks.
I just like to share to everybody that 3870 works with Buffalo external USB Blu-ray(tested with Vista). My stock 7300GT will not playback Blu-ray movies because it's not HDCP compliant.
    Nathan

I just removed the fan off my x1900 and it's a joy to listen to now. Dead silent.
Here are some photos of how easy it was. Take off memory heat syncs, take off electric heat syncs, and then the fan off the chip. Wipe it with a tissue. Then take an eraser and rub until all residue is gone. Then just stick and peel the heat syncs where they fit.
The only trick was getting the clips to fit on the board. I had to take off the long metal piece that ran the length of the board so the clips could fit around it.
Anyway hope this helps someone out there.

Is there a way to play blu ray movies on an imac?

  • Can I watch Blu-ray movies on my MacBook Pro 17-inch?

If this is possible at all, I think there are two or three issues to be addressed.
First, I understand that to display Blu-ray movies, the display must be HDCP compliant. All I know is that mine has adequate resolution (1920 x 1200). I called AppleCare and they could not verify HDCP compliance; however, they also did not find any information explicitly stating that it is not. Does anyone know the answer to this, and if it is indeed required?
Second, I need an external Blu-ray drive that will work on a Mac with OS X 10.6.4. Ideally it would not require an external power supply. I've got a laptop, so the more portable the solution, the better.
Third, I'm guessing I'll need new software to play the movies on the disc, rather than the pre-installed software that plays regular DVDs. I would prefer a Mac software solution; however, I do have Windows running under Parallels Desktop 5. I am concerned that if I go with a Windows solution (such as PowerDVD 10 Deluxe) playback could be choppy given the dual demands of Blu-Ray HD and the Windows virtual machine it's running on.
    Any advice? Thanks.

Find an external blu-ray player for OS X. Apple has yet to support Blu-Ray in any way, shape, or form
