There used to be a little cloud icon somewhere but with all the changes I can't seem to figure out where it has gone.

Assuming it's in the correct format, select your phone from the device list in iTunes on your computer, select the music tab and check the music you wish to sync.

Connect your iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. If you auto sync, let the process complete. Then click on your iPad name on the left side bar under the Devices heading and click on the Music Tab in the iTunes window at the top on the right. Select the album - click on the box next to the Album name, (make sure the heading -Sync Music is checked) and then click Apply in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.
That should sync the album to the iPad and look for it in the iPod or Music App, depending on which iOS you are running.

No, ringtones are not included in the list of items you can download repeatedly, at least not the last time I checked the Apple document listing countries and downloadable items.

You can connect the iPhone to any computer to charge it. Just be careful when doing so if the computer has iTunes installed. iTunes may pop up and ask if you want to sync the phone with the computer, which you won't want to do if the computer isn't yours!

How do i get music onto my iphone 5 from iTunes on my mac??

I am losing the will to live trying to do what I thought would be a straightforward task. It certainly used to be?!?! Copy my music on Itunes from my Mac to new iPhone5.
When I connect iPhone 5 to Mac via usb, automatically shows my iPhone5 device on Iphoto, then when I close Iphoto and open Itunes the device isn't anywhere to be seen. I've read a few other articles/solutions that mention about ctrl S or option command s but that produces the classic apple "thud" response. Rapdily losing my faith in Apple to be honest. I have (I think) downloaded the most up to date iTunes and iOS but everything is now a total mess and not intuitive at all. I am not a techno geek so please, please can someone help using plain English.

Use the backup of the computer to put everything back.
Syncing is one way, computer to iDevice.
If for some silly reason you have chosen to not backup your important media and data, iTunes purchases can be transfered from the device or redownloaded from iTunes.
Google is your friend to find instructions.

I have an IPhone 4S and I downloaded a ring tone for it onto my lap top through ITunes. When I "Sync" ITunes to my IPhone 4 S...the ring tone is transferred as music and I can't get it to be recognized as a ring tone.

You would have to create the ringtone. Google will find several ways to do this.
You can only buy ready made ringtones from the ringtones asections of the itunes store on your iphone.

If you live in a Region that allows re-downloading Music...
Delete the Song(s) and re-download...

If the albums do appear in the Music app, hold down on the album icons and the X to delete will pop up on the icons. Tap the X to delete the albums.
You don't see a anything in iCloud, you see your previous purchases in the purchased tab of the store that you bought the content in. So you find your music purchases in the purchased tab of the iTunes app on your iPad. Tap on Purchased and look for the albums in the Not on this iPad section - assuming that you are able to delete the albums from the device.
