I purchased an unlocked iPhone 4S from US and returned to india,but now I can't activate the phone. Called up the apple support team in India they said it is already unlocked from AT&T. What am I suppose to do ?
Previously my iTunes was showing the phone and summary etc etc. The India Support center asked me to upgrade it to 5.1.1 then the new sim will be recognised, but now nothing is happening, even iTunes is not showing the Summary page.
Please suggest?

My phone is an iPhone 3gs too, and last night actually it said the same thing, "No Sim Card" and my friend and I started panicking but I did what I call a "Forced Reboot" where you hold down the Home and Power buttons until you see the apple logo. DO NOT RELEASE UNTIL THEN otherwise you are just shutting it down. So, I did that and it worked again....

You need to call AppleCare, tell them you only want to know which cell carrier your iPhone is locked to and give them the model and serial number. Then contact that cell carrier and see what their official unlock policy is and if you qualify.

i have an activation problem with my iphone 3gs. i updated the software to io6 using itunes but now the phone will not complete activation because it keeps saydin the activation server is not available and to re try later. ive been trying for 6 hours but it still wont activate. if i try using itunes then it sayd no sim inserted when there is one inserted, what can i do?
You are right, but how could i send it to Apple? when the phone company first replaced my iphone they had in stock alots of iphones and they just sent mine back to Apple and gave me a new one, so all i did is to give them my phone, but now how could i sent it to Apple? and i cant send it by myself, and the store wont do that, its a lost for them.. so sending it to Apple wasnt an option from the begining.
and for the record, i dont think the store where i bought it is an authorized shop.. its just a store who boughts phone's from Apple in a low price and sells it in much more money.. -
I have been to the Apple Store twice now, and my original iPhone has been replaced three times since Tuesday. Straight Talk says they are getting an error on their end when trying to activate and add the phone to my existing account. They are insistent that the phone I have is not a CDMA iPhone and that I need to go back to the Apple Store again to get another phone. My iPhone said that it is activated on CDMA US network, and shows bars and the 3G symbol; and yet my carrier doesn't show up on the top bar where it should be. The iPhone I have now is in fact CDMA with the part number A1429. Has anyone experienced a similar issue when they had their Straight Talk iPhone replaced?
My friend threw a Straight Talk SIM card in so now it is working on the GSM network. The service isn't as good but at least my phone works again.

Yes - unlocked means unlocked, but if there is a problem that requires an exchange under warranty, the warranty would be honored in the US only. You would need to return to the US for an exchange under warranty.

Hello to everyone. I am planning to purchasing an unlock iphone 4s from an apple retail store. I want to ask if they will open up the package box and the store will activate the phone for me or I'le just pick up the unit still sealed in the box and be the one to activate the phone by myself? I ask this question because as for my knowledge is concerned the process for purchasing an iphone 4s with a contract from a carrier like at&t is different like they are ones who will opened up the package in the store and they activate the phone for you before you pick it up. I dont know if this process is also done for the unlocked iphone 4s that will be purchased at an apple retail store. Or maybe I can ask the apple retail store, that I will pick up the phone in sealed box and will be the one who will activate it. I just want my purchase to be still in sealed box from the store. Thanks for any help.
They will normally activate it in store as their systems will register the phone.
When buying Sim Free unlocked here in the UK, it stays sealed til you get home, or they will help you activate in store. I guess asking in your local store first will be the best course of action. -

Well, there is nothing anyone here can do for you. Did you actually purchase it at an Apple Store, or at another retailer like BestBuy, HH Gregg, a mall kiosk, T-Mobile, AT&T, etc?
The ONLY source for unlocked iPhones in the US is Apple. If you purchased it anywhere other than at an Apple Store, you purchased a locked phone.
You can call AppleCare and give them the serial number of the phone to confirm the status of the lock. -

No. The warranty is only for the country that the device was purchased in. So for example, if you need service for your phone, you would need to have someone in the US submit the device (from a US mailing address). Or, someone to take the phone into an Apple Store for you.

Warranty and support is only valid in the country of origin, or in the case of a device purchased in an EU country, only in an EU country.
Unless you will be visiting an Apple store in one of the EU countries before the warranty expires, you are pretty much out of luck.
