I purchased iwork (pages/numbers) on my mac......how do I now get these apps onto my iphone and ipad? When I go to the 'purchased' section in my app store these are not listed.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
iWork has got a version for Mac and another for iOS. You have purchased iWork for Mac, so you can install it for free in all your Macs, but you haven't purchased iWork for iOS.
You have to purchase iWork because the iPhone and iPad use a different operating system than the Mac and there are different versions

The music sync is one way only - computer to iphone. The exception is itunes purchases: Without syncing: File>Transfer Purcahses
The iphone will sync with only one copmptuer at a time. Sycning with another will erase the current content of the iphone and replace it with content from the new computer.

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
- Try making a backup of the iPod by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup.

Pages and Numbers on a Mac are Mac Apps and are downloaded from the Mac App Store. iOS devices use a completely different operating system and the version of Pages and Numbers for that are quite different programming - you can't move Mac applications to an iOS device. The programs will have to be download from the App Store on your devices, and you have to buy them separately from the Mac versions.

You would need to use one Apple ID for purchases in order to get them across all of your devices and computer. If you want you can use one Apple ID for purchases and the other one to sync personal data. The article below will explain further.

If they have 'open' next to them then that implies that they are already on your iPad - if you tap on the 'open' button does that open the app ? If it does then they are on your iPad. You've checked all your homescreens and tried a soft-reset to see if they show after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

How do I get my notes to sync between my iPhone and the Notes App on my Mac?

I recently upgraded to the new OS 10.9.1 and I understand that without warning us, Apple has decided to remove notes from Mail and make it a separate App. That's fine, but none of the notes on my iPhone are showing up in the Notes app. I have tried creating a new note in the Notes app, but none of my notes seem to be syncing in either direction. Ok, I signed out from iCloud and it told me that it removed all the data from my computer. I signed then back in and made sure to recheck the box to sync Notes and still the same problem. It has been over an hour and still none of the notes that are still on my phone have shown up in the Notes app on my Mac. The test note I created in the Notes app on my app is not showing up on my phone either. Furthermore, when I click on the Notes app it is still telling me that this computer can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [email protected] .

Does your wife sync her phone with a different computer or iTunes.
If so you need to copy that music to that iTunes
If she syncs with the same iTunes as you do just select your music and sync as normal

Your post indicates you are the operating system on your Mac is 10.5.8
If that is correct, you will need to update to at least 10.0.6 in order to use the Mac App Store and redownload your purchased apps.

I had this exact issue. However, I was not even able to "see" the pending downloads when I tried fixing them using the solution above.
In another thread, I saw that someone mentioned an issue with the use of the "&" (ampersand) symbol in your appleID information. I had recently changed my name and it did include the & symbol in my name (not the appleID itself). I replaced the ampersand with the word "and" and saved. I then went to the iTunes store and logged into my account there and made the same change on my billing name.
Voila! I could now access the 7 pending downloads on my desktop Mac and download them, and all iPhone/iPad/Ipods were again able to download from the app store.
incidentally, I had several support tickets open on this issue and never once did the Apple person even suggest that this might be the issue.

If you are running v10.7 Lion on your Mac as your profile suggests, then the App Store should be installled.
Three ways to access the App Store.
Click your Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click App Store.
Or, from your Dock
Or launch the App Store from your Applications folder.
If you still can't locate the App Store, installing the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo) will reinstall the App Store for you.
Restart your Mac after the combo is installed.
