I purchased Pages from the App Store and it installed properly, but now it's asking me for a serial number or use the 30-day trial. I never received a serial number after purhcasing and I don't see anything in my iTunes receipt. Where can I find my serial number?

The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. Yvan Koenig has written an AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip.

The iWork 9.2 updater is for those using Mountain Lion. Why do you want to update to Pages 4.2 if you're still running Lion? There is no benefit & many users have had problems.
That being said, you must make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. All three applications must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Now, choose Software Update from the Apple menu, from System Preferences or launch the Mac App Store & click Updates. You should get a window similar to this screenshot. Now click the Update button next to iWork 9.2.

If you got disks with your system then you use software update to update. If you purchased the software from to app store or it came pre installed with no disks the you get updates via the app store under purchased software.

I want to purchase an gaming app from the appstore. However if i install it and later want to install another app or application from elsewhere do I get to keep the app or does it disappear. So would I need to re-purchase the app or does it stay in a purchased section so you can install, uninstall and reinstall etc when you want.

Once it is installed you should have no reason to uninstall it.
However, if you, accidentally or on purpose uninstall it, as a paid app you should be able to reinstall. But having said that, it would probably depend on whether that app was still available in your country's App Store.
So better to just keep it.

Tried to purchase Flowpaper from the app store BUT

after I confirmed my credit card and billing details I then had a black shadow over the centre of the screen where the billing info panel was. and nothing seems to be happening.
This has now disappeared afterrefreshing the page but there is no info about downloading the app.

I only bought this iPad last week it is an original one refurbished

Also Although I had set up a new password yesterday for my apple ID and KNOW I was using the correct one I had to set up another one.
Why did it not recognise my password in iTunes. surely it is the same password for my apple .com support login as for iTunes.

I've bought numbers & pages from the App Store but when I open either I'm being asked to use the iWork trial or buy it - Do I have to buy iWork too, and if so, why does the App Store leet you buy the apps separately if you need iWork in order to use them?

Have you redeemed your iTunes card to an account associated with an Apple ID?
Once you have your iPad associated with an Apple ID AND you have an account with a credit card associated with the same Apple ID AND you have some 'store credit' (from redeeming your iTunes card) then purchases use the store credit before they charge the credit card, so you should be ok!
Personally, I use 'store credit' as a way to monitor whether or not there have been any 'unauthorised' purchases because as soon as the store credit is zero, the security code from the credit card is needed for further purchases! It does mean that I have sometimes to top up store credit before making a purchase, but 'better safe than sorry'!

No. You need to buy it for your Apple ID and for the other. You will have problems with updates

Try searching with Spotlight. Click the magnifying glass icon top right corner of your screen.
If you can't locate the apps, you can re download without being charged again.

I believe apple no longer accepts debit cards in some countries. Try a credit card instead. Go to settings/iTunes and App Store tap on the ID then then tap on view apple ID and log in then tap on account info and have a look at the billing options available to you
