I purchased Photoshop C5 in 2011.  My old desktop computer, with Photoshop C5 has had to be replaced.  Is there any way to install Photoshop C5 either my MacBook Mac OS X 10.6.8 or on my new desktop computer, an HP with Windows 8.1 64-bit?  I am gathering no, but can tell me how, that would be great.  :-)

Your Photoshop CS5 license will only work on the platform (Mac / PC) you originally licensed it for.  If your old desktop was a Windows system, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to use your serial number to activate it on your Win 8.1 system.

If you've used up both your allowed applications, give Adobe Customer Support a call.  Explain that your old system is long gone and they should be willing to reset your usage count for you so you can put the software on the new machine.

How do I copy purchases between 2 itunes libraries on the same computer with different log ins and separate apple user ids?

Load the library which doesn't contain the songs and drag them into the open iTunes application window. If you need to move them between different computer user accounts, put them into /Users/Shared/.

  • I just purchased a Mac book pro and set up a new Apple ID with it. I already have Mac desktop computer with the original account my family has opened. I would like to transfer our old purchases to my new account, but we already have 5 devices authorized.

I just got a new Mac Book for college and I created my own apple id for it. My family already has a shared account and I was hoping to transfer the purchases from that account onto my new account. I tried the Homesharing feature, but we already have 5 devices that were authorized and we can't add another. What is the best way to make the transfer work?

    You are most welcome

I bought my MacBook Pro with Keynote, Pages, and Numbers all pre-installed. Now, it is saying I must pay $20 again to update it?!

Im not completely upto date with the purchase spec with latest Macpro; Im trying to find out if this is a trial or  purchased software. What documentation was given to you to prove this is purchased software?
    How old is the machine?
Who did you buy it from - Apple retail store, independant store, used from a private sourse?
Did you ask for these applications to be installed, and who installed them.

  • Can I convert an old IMAC computer with OS 9 operating system from being "dial up" to high speed?

Can anyone tell me how I can convert my old IMAC from "dial up" to go on the internet as high speed? I have an ISP provider for a more modern computer that I own, but I really would like to use my old IMAC on the internet as well? How can I make it compatible with high speed internet? If I try to go on line, the internal modem "dials up". How can I change that and cause it to communicate with my external high speed modem?

Any iMac can connect by ethernet to the router.
You'll need to disable the modem and set up the network config.
    Too long since I used OS9 to guide you on that bit; ask in the correct forum;

  • I am activating an old desktop pc with win7 and want to get online with my 890L.

What do I need for the desktop.  What do I have to do to Win7 to recognize the hotspot?

You need a wireless network card if the pc doesn't have one built in. Once you activate the hotspot on your phone, your of can look for that network (emitted from the phone), but the pc has to have wireless network capabilities, or you will have to buy a wireless usb card (they are about $30 and look lime a little flash drive)

  • IMovie 11 freezing looking for old (trashed) computer doing iphoto import?

Odd problem with my new iMovie. When I try to run it and it goes through the update of files from iPhoto, it freezes and says that the network connection with an old desktop computer we used to have is broken. Then it just reappears and will never complete the iphoto transfer. I have changed iphoto libraries to a new one and that solved the problem, but we have a ton of movies in our iphoto library that I need in imovie. Does anyone know how to disassociate iphoto library from an old computer? In iphoto there are no issues with looking for the old computer, and I don't think we ever had them synced to begin with. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello,
I have the same problem on my mid 2012 MBP retina 15 inch. For example, when i am importing from facetime in final cut, sometimes it records in 720HD @ 24fps, and sometimes in non-HD @ 17fps.
Everything is up to date, i have tried recording from photobooth and quicktime, and the issue remains the same.

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro with MAC OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto ’09 version 8.1.2 and have downloaded two software programs: one is Aperture 3.2 and the other is Photoshop Elements 9 (which I got from a friend who didn’t need it).
I am totally happy with the way iPhoto organizes my photos and how I can work with iMovie to create slide shows with music from iTunes, etc.
I have been shooting mostly high resolution jpegs and I continue to learn more and more about photography, post processing etc. I realize that the small adjustments I can make in iPhoto are good, and are adequate most of the time. However, a have started to experiment with shooting RAW images and would like to go the next step, ie. post processing.I am totally technically challenged and need SIMPLE, INTUITIVE programs and am certainly NOT anywhere ready for Photoshop CS whatever!
After having these programs sit on my computer, I decided to try to see if I could figure them out. When I opened Aperture, this is what first comes up.
    “Welcome to Aperture 3.2
Your library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of Aperture. Once upgraded, you will not be able to use this library with previous versions of Aperture.
Upgrading a library from previous versions of Aperture 3 generally takes a few minutes or less, though larger libraries will take longer. After that, Aperture 3.2 will upgrade your library's thumbnails, but you can use the application during that time.
Tip: To open a different library, quit Aperture and hold the Option key down while starting Aperture
    Current Library Location:
    Jadzia (home)   -----Pictures------Aperture Library
                                                      QUIT             UPGRADE”
I have heard horror stories  about moving your entire library to Aperture, ending up with 2 libraries, etc. etc. hence my previous reluctance in attempting Aperture. In addition, many of my photography friends are saying: Go with Lightroom 3.....you’ll love it!
So here is my dilemma.  I don’t want to mess around with my iPhoto library. All I want to be able to do, is to isolate a few photos, export them to Aperture, Elements, and work on them there, then bring them back into iPhoto.
Can I do this? Should I forget about Aperture and Elements and look at purchasing yet another program like Lightroom?

Export those few photos via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with Kind = Original to the Desktop.  Then import them into the Aperture library. That would keep one copy in your iPhoto library and another in your Aperture library to edit, etc.
You can use Photoshop Elements 9 from within iPhoto as your editor of choice. However, if you edit a raw file in iPhoto with PSE9 the resulting edited version must be saved outside the iPhoto Library and imported back in as a new file.  For editing jpegs just do a Save (not a Save As) and it all will be kept within iPhoto.
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Please, Can't We Just Continue To Purchase Photoshop, not CC, Adobe?

Please, could we just continue to purchase our programs, Adobe?
I cannot go along with the Creative Cloud only option.  Although Adobe is offering great "discounts" on the Creative Cloud versions, they will absolutely raise the price each year.  (That is clearly stated in their "Terms.")  Adobe's "special discount introductory offer" goes to the "current price" after the first year.  The $9.99 / month special offer becomes $19.99 or $29.99 after a year (or much more - it is completely at Adobe's discretion how high it goes).
I do not want or need the Cloud, Storage, or Collaborative "features" that are the hallmark of the CC releases.  I am pleased to wait for a year for new features.  (Updates for bug fixes should not be delayed, however.)
This is just like the cable and satellite TV companies, they surreptitiously raise the monthly price, until you are paying INSANE amounts.
Like Woody Allen said (my paraphrasing, sorry):
"If you put a frog into a pot of cold water and slowly bring it to a boil, he will just sit there and boil - because the discomfort change is so slow, he'll hardly notice it, until he is thoroughly cooked!"
Adobe wants us to be that frog.
And once we have all signed up and are comfortable in our plan, Adobe wants us to forget that we are (almost invisibly to us) paying each month - while the price goes up and up each year.
I just read about a student who signed up last year for the "introductory" CC pricing for students, and now his price is going up to $29.99 per month, after just one year.  And where does it stop? Do you think it stops at $29.99?
(Quick math solution: $29.99 X 12 = $359.88 PER YEAR, EVERY YEAR!  And this is not capped, so the upward monthly price is unlimited!)
Although I love the products, I don't want to pay another gouging cable or satellite company!
    Thanks for listening.
And Adobe, could you please, please continue to offer our "old-style" purchasing of new versions of Photoshop?
I will not join the 'Cloud.'
    Please join Me.

To several answerers to my original post:
I'm not crying about potential increases.  I'm demanding that Adobe end this affront to the long-time users that made Adobe (and Photoshop) an international success and a standard.  Yes, we have benefitted from an excellent, forward-pushing application.  But we did not get it for free, and every upgrade was at a cost.  Now, to stay "current," we have to accept a new "business model," that will make Adobe richer per user than previously imagined.  I purchased the Photoshop that was purchased outright, for me to use until my computer OS could no longer do so.  To change this method of using a program that we have used for so long is unacceptable.  I don't want to change - I should not have to change.  It is Adobe that established this method of selling the program to me, and although they can change whenever they want, I don't have to accept it.
It is not enough that "I have the ability to go elsewhere for my imaging / retouching, etc. program.  Adobe owes us in a big way.  We do NOT have to accept this change, when they are taking a program that we all do need and use, and changing our ability to afford it or keep current with features, or when our operating system changes.  I do understand that Adobe wants to make money (I believe that they have, by the way).  But they are changing an understanding, or implicit agreement (whether explicit or "implied" - it does not matter) that we all had with them.  That understanding was that we would be supported in learning, using, and even forming businesses around their product - and we could be assured that they would continue to supply the product in a way that we could dependably and similarly continue to use it.  This is a MAJOR change from the usability that we have come to use, expect, and be comfortable with - and this is NOT acceptable!
As long as Adobe is not satisfied with their subscriber base numbers, they will continue the low initial discount price.  As soon as their numbers approach what they want, the initial discount will end.
    Will prices go up?
Someone asked: "How do I know the prices will go up?"
My initial answer was, "Have you subscribed to any satellite or cable services?"
But here's an example clipped from these very forums:
    Creative Cloud billing issues...
    Dec 6, 2013 9:04 AM
My year subscription to Adobe Cloud ends in a month and in an email I received it noted that my monthly bill will be going up from 29.99 to 49.99, I have tried to contact Adobe by online messenger and by the phone but no response yet. I am a student at Graduate School and had been paying the student price but now with my renewal it wants me to pay more....something is not right.
If any help could be given, it would be greatly appreciated.
Imagine your $9.99 Introductory Offer going up to $29.99 after one year.
    Because it WILL.
So indeed, we may have no power to change this.  We know that they are going to TRY to do this anyway.
But . . . We can still let them know just how strongly we DO NOT WANT THE CC only.
Please: Everyone write Adobe! Tell them this is wrong!  Tell them NO!
They may actually be listening after all.
Or "go silently into that good night," knowing you just kept quiet and accepted what is best for them, without letting them know how you feel about it!
