Sorry, but that opportunity has long passed. Your options now are:
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
             7. Xserve (Early 2009)
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps - App compatibility and feature support for OS X & iOS.
Am I eligible for the free upgrade?
See Apple - Free OS X Mountain Lion upgrade Program.

  • I bought a macbook pro in boston on October 25th, can I exchange it for the Macbook pro with retina. It has not been turned on - only the box has been opened.

I've never turned on my new macbook pro but I want to exchange it for the new Macbook pro with retina display. Is this possible. I have the receipt. Box was opened.

No - you have 14 days from date of purchase to exchange or get a refund. That should have been on your receipt somewhere.
I'm afraid that you're just going to have to sell your computer, somehow, and put that money towards a new one.
Why in the world did you buy what you didn't want?

  • When I bought my MacBook Pro, I didn't buy the AppleCare PP with it. Now, is it possible for me to buy it separately to cover my MacBook?

When I bought my MacBook Pro from Apple online store, I didn't buy the AppleCare Protection Plan with it. Now I'm in a different country from where I've bought my MacBook Pro. Is it possible for me to buy AppleCare Protection Plan separately to cover my MacBook?

You should be able to do this if your MBP is still under the original warranty, i.e., under a year old, but it may vary depending on the region where you are. See: http://www.apple.com/legal/sales-support/applecare/appgeos.html

i bought and downloaded iWork when i bought my macbook pro and i used to save my documents on words. then a few weeks ago, i downloaded a free trial of microsoft office but unregistered and deleted it a week after. now i can't save my documents on word. It used to ask me if I want to save my documents on word, now it doesn't. And the W icon keeps on appearing on my dock. Can I return my computer to an earlier date? Please help me. Thanks

No, I don't have a back-up of TIme Machine... to tell you the truth, I have this computer for a few years now and I still don't know how to work all of the apps that are here. Anything else I can do?

  • When I migrated the contents of my iMac to my new MacBook Pro (both running Lion), I ended up with duplicate icons in the launchpad. How do I get rid of them?

When I used migration Assistant to transfer stuff from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, both running the latest update of Lion, I ended up with duplicate icons in the Launchpad. How do I correct this situation. Some can be deleted using the iPad method of holding down an icon until they all jiggle and then clicking the "X" to delete. However, most do not have x's appear next to them. Otherwise, the migration seemed to go okay.

Launchpad will display an icon for each copy of an application that is currently installed (as well as any aliases to those applications), so you will see more than one icon for an application if you have more than one version of the application installed or aliased. So did you create any aliases of these apps on your old computer? If so, delete them.

  • HT203167 I had a previous iTunes account with another email address.  Somehow when I bought a macbook Pro I created a new apple id and I can't access my old itunes account.  Can anyone help me with this?  Frustrated with myself.

I had an itune account and library with lots of my music and purchased music.  I had it under another email address using Windows.  I purchased a MacBook pro and in my learning how to use it, being so different, I created another apple id and now I can't access my old account or purchases... Is there anything I can do to fix this... Ann

If you have purchases on your iPod Shuffle that you want to sync back to iTunes, but are under the Apple ID you no longer have access to, you'll need to reset that account information. You can use this link to reset your password.
    https://iforgot.apple.com/
If that doesn' work or help, you'll need to contact iTunes support and have them walk you through the process of resetting the older account information.  Once you know the email and password again, you can authorize your new computer and transfer any purchases from this account back to iTunes.
For all non-iTunes purchased content, you'll need to the assistance of some sort of third party software that is not supported by Apple. See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

  • Bought a MacBook Pro Just Before the New Ones Came Out?

I'm just going to put this out there since every time Apple refreshes a product, we get the same questions:
+*1) I just bought my MacBook Pro a week ago. Can I exchange it for a new 2011 one?*+
In the U.S., Apple has a 14 day return policy. You may return your product at any point during that 14 day period. Apple's official policy is to charge a 10% restocking fee. However, they have been known to waive the fee... especially after a product refresh. There is no guarantee that they will do this however.
+*2) I'm so mad!! I just bought my machine in January and it's already obsolete! Now I feel like I have been cheated by Apple.*+
This comment comes up every time there is a product refresh. It can be frustrating when an updated version of something you spent a considerable sum of cash on is released shortly after your purchase. Just remember, at the time you made the purchase, you decided that the product you bought offered what you wanted at a price you were willing to pay. You haven't been cheated out of anything. You received exactly what you expected at the price you agreed to. Your machine does not become obsolete just because a newer model comes out. If the machine you purchased met your needs when you bought it, it will continue to meet your needs regardless of whether or not an updated version was released. If you are within the return period per #1 above, you may return your machine and purchase a new model.
+*3. It's not fair that Apple doesn't tell us that they are updating their machines. I would have waited had I known updated machines were coming out. I asked the guy at the store if there were any updates on the way and he said he didn't know.*+
Very few manufacturers make announcements about updates to their products. For computers, new processors, video components, chipsets, etc. are released at a blinding pace. It is expected that computer manufacturers will update their products regularly. If they don't, they simply won't be competitive. It tends to be more obvious when it comes to Apple products as there are only a few basic models (vs. the tens to hundreds offered by companies like HP, Asus, Toshiba, etc). Frankly, from a business standpoint, it also doesn't make sense to pre-announce updates as they will cripple sales of existing stock. Generally, before a product refresh, there are lots of rumors. A little research ahead of time will usually make it clear if an update is at least expected. Neither Apple store employees nor employees at other Apple Authorized Resellers have any advance knowledge of new releases. They may know about the same rumors that you'll find online, but they have no more concrete information than anyone else until an official announcement.

  • I bought a macbook pro a month ago and didnt know there was a better/newer model (macbook pro retina) - can I upgrade/take back my macbook and get the new one?

When they told me about it I just thought it had a better display and decided it didn't bother me if the resolution was better, not knowing that it was thinner, has a HDMI connection, etc.
I bought my macbook pro 13 inch exactly a month ago tomorrow. If I go back and tell them this will I be able to upgrade my laptop? I paid more than $1300 or something for this one, I'd be willing to pay up to the price of the retina model, do you think I'd be able to do this?

If your non retina MBP has a dvd slot and a large capacity conventional hard drive, you might find the retina model would have been less convenient with lower capacity SSD and no DVD.
On the other hand, the MacBook Pro with Retina display has got a much faster drive and you can get an external DVD drive (not everybody needs a DVD drive)
Absolutely, like I say personal Choice.  I believe from remarks in here that the SSD boots up on Mavericks in something like 10 seconds whereas mine takes even longer to boot than in Mountain Lion. But then we are advised to use sleep over boot as much as possible.  My problem is I have 300GB of stuff and getting bigger, and when I bought mine the biggest SSD was 250 I think. For me the choice of replaceable RAM vs soldered-in RAM was a clincher.

  • I am so new to Mac. I just bought this Macbook Pro. No Disks or anything. I need to completely wipe and reinstall. Is there anyplace I can download the disks to burn to dvd to do a complete wipe and reinstall?  I'm running 10.6.8. Or maybe a later version

I guess you can see how new i am to this, I typed my whole question in the subject. Any way, i bought this macbook pro used, no disks, need to do a complete wipe and reinstall. is there anywhere i can download the install disks to burn to dvd? Or buy either one, or maybe even a later version? Im running 10.6.8 currently.  Thanks in Advance! Terry

First determine what system you really have.
Apple menu -> About This Mac.
If it is 10.7, you don't need installer discs, because there is a recovery partition:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848
If indeed it is 10.6.something then you'll want to call AppleCare for the discs.
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If they determine the machine is older than 10.6's initial release (August 28, 2009), you'll want to purchase 10.6 retail, and/or 10.7 retail from the Apple Store.
    Regardless, backup your data first*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
And read the benefits of both 10.6 and 10.7:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2455
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2465
and determine which can run on your machine, and decide which you want to have.

Look at the more like this column on the right.. this is the most common problem reported here.
You need to restart the TC.. that is all..
Pull out the power cord.. count to 10.. plug in power cord.
There are a few occasions where this fails.. see C12 http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
