I put a install disk into the computer and nothing happens

I just bought the Macbook pro and im tring to install Photoshop elements 10. I put in the disk and nothing happens. I'm used to a window opening saying "install" on my PC. Does this not happen on a MAC? how do i install new software?

Usually what occurs is a disk shaped object appears on your desktop and you double click it to open and inside will be a installer pkg or dmg you doubleclick to install the software.

I am putting all my old disks of pictures onto my desktop and i put the disk into the computer, nothing came up so I went to eject the disk and it will not. Any suggestions???

Click on the first line, "About This Mac"

What version & Processor do you have?
power off your machine. hold down your left mouse button. power on your machine. This should eject the cd.

I connect my camera to the computer--and nothing happens...

I recently got a new Kodak Easyshare Z812, and bought a new 2GB SD memory card for it. The first few times I imported photos with the memory card, everything worked fine. Then, I went on a trip and took nearly 1000 pictures. Now, when I connect the camera to the computer using the USB wire that came with the camera, nothing happens. iPhoto does open automatically, but the photos do not import and the computer does not recognize the connection to the camera.
To get to the root of the problem, I:
--Put another memory card into the camera--same result; nothing happened.
--Took a picture on the internal memory and imported it--connection was recognized immediately and photo imported without a hitch.
--Put the original memory card in a different camera, with a different USB cable--nothing happened.
I also had a few pictures from a third camera from that trip; on an xD card, and they imported fine.
At this point, I don't know what to do. What is the source of this problem, do you think? Is the memory card fried? Is it the USB? The computer? The camera?
I'm thinking of either buying a new USB or getting a memory card reader. Good idea?

It looks like the card may be the problem, and your best bet is to try the Card Reader - this will make the card accessible by the Finder and you may be able to drag the pics off to the desktop or, at worst, try recover the pics with an app like MediaRecover

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

Does your mac have an intel processor or PowerPC processor?

Did you insert the disk that is labeled mac os?
After you insert the disk, it should show on your desktop.
If you double click on the the disk icon on the desktop, does anything happen?

It became more serious recently as I think I might have let my battery run out I also tried to download the operating system to reinstall it but it allways stops around 1.4 GB out of 1.7 then the whell starts again.

Keep the MBP attached to the power adapter.
First try SMC and PRAM resets:

Then try to boot the MBP in recovery (OPTION key down) and select the recover partition. Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the HDD.

As a test, shut down your computer and disconnect ALL USB devices. Do this procedure to Reset the shuffle

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one. Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

Sounds like you are in recovery mode. Try using RecBoot to kick it out of recovery. If that does not work, you may need to restore.

When you insert a CD/DVD in the optical drive, does an icon appear on the desktop? If not open Finder Preferences and check the appropriate box(s).
