I re-installed OSX Tiger and now I haven't got iDVD, iMovie & iPhoto???

What's going on?
I re-formatted the mac with the tiger installation disc and everything is at factory settings but there's no iDVD, iPhoto or iMovie, but I do have iTunes.
Do you know what's going on, can you help?
I purchased my mac from a person who had it on display. I don't know though maybe iLife doesn't come with the OS, I thought it did. If so, then where is it?
Thanks guys

Hi ltpowda,
please check what kind of install DVD you have. Is it gray (hardware specific restore disks) or black (retail full install version).
If it is black you are out of luck. The retail versions do not include iLife. You have to buy iLife separately.
If they are gray AND fit the exact computer model you have you can find detailed instructions here:
Using Restore discs with computers that ship with Mac OS X 10.3.7 or later

Shut the power clear off, wait a minute or 2 and restart and see if that clears the problem.

  • HELP: I reinstalled my OSX tiger and now itunes wont work??

OK here is the total lowdown.....I have been doing some tweaking to my computer
I have a Powerbook G4 OSX, I recently added 1G of Ram making it 1.25
and I had to re install my OS disks to preserve and something (im not technical) because I was trying to download illustrator cs3 trial on my computer and it told me that it conflicts with CS3 the very program I was trying to get. So I talked with a genius and he told me to reinstall the OS disks and choose preserve blahblah......I chose it, it seemed to work but when I went to use my itunes it told me that I needed 10.4.7 or later.... I USED to have 10.4.10 before the reinstall now I have 10.4.....what is going on... i just want to get my jams back on. HELP what can I do. what did I do? now, everyone, lets be a hero and help me!!

oh yeah i forgot...the message that my itunes gives me is " you need 10.4.7 or later please go to apple.com/macosx to upgrade"

  • Just installed OSX update and now widgets don't work

I click on my dashboard and my widget icons all show up as black squares with a @, a music note, a cloud, and a clock. I click on them and nothing happens. How can I fix that?

I found just one of my Widgets malfunctioning (BBCWeather Widget) and contacted the author (correct term?) yesterday. He replied this morning with a link to an updated version!
That is one option for non-Apple widgets, but if you have many widgets misfiring, it's a tall order. And if it's the widgets that come with Tiger, then maybe try downloading and installing the appropriate 10.4.7 Combo Update from this page.
Repair permissions before and after the update.

  • Interrupted OSX install on drive and now it's full of bad blocks?

So yesterday I was installing OSX Tiger on an external drive in order to run Disk Warrrior and I decided half thru installation that I'd rather partition the drive and only use up a portion instead so I cancelled the installation by hard reset and now the hard drive won't initialize in Disk Utility and so far the surface scan test reports 28000+ bad blocks. What is the likelihood that my actions could have caused this?

According to the tech from MicroMat, this is not necessarily true.
Interesting. I've been told that there is no way the OS can tell the drive to map out some specific physical block, only that it wants to read or write to some logical sector, which the drive translates to the cooresponding physical one. If the drive detects that the physical one is bad, it maps the logical sector to a spare if it can. This map is kept in the drive's firmware & generally cannot be accessed or changed short of factory-type procedures -- for all practical user purposes, it is a permanent change.
The various tech responses in the URL you mentioned seem to imply this is true. At one point he mentions that TTP's surface scan should not turn up the same bad block more than once, since once accessed the drive will not access that (physical) block again. It also appears that TTP & similar utilities can't actually mark blocks bad either, they instead mark ones they judge marginal as used in the file system, which is no more permanent than the file system itself. (The mention of Intech's SpeedTools Media Scanner somehow getting around this was interesting, though.)
I think what the tech meant about zeroing out data permanently remapping a bad block was in reference to this (the file system map vs. the firmware one), but I'm by no means certain. However, what he said about a multipass zero erase being no better than a single pass one makes me believe the only "miss" involved is for (physical) blocks not yet accessed by the drive.
Certainly, that will delete the partion information ...
I guess I wasn't being clear either. There are partitions that don't store regular data but metadata about the drive format itself, for example if uses an Apple or PC partition scheme. I do not believe such partitions are "zeroed out" with any "Erase" tab option of Disk Utility, although they may be written to, for instance to update the fact that only one Mac volume exists after a 'whole disk' erase.
To sum up, what I'm trying to say is that the drive has to access a sector to detect & map a bad one to a spare. If the drive doesn't do that, no utility will either. They are useful to monitor the rate of bad block creation/detection, but that is primarily a check of the drive's health, not a way to avoid problems resulting from bad blocks themselves.

  • My new iMac has recently had OSX Lion installed on it and now when I start the machine it looks like its updating something every time, and the wireless doesn't work. So I restart and everything is OK - until I have to start up again the next time?

My new iMac has recently had OSX Lion installed on it and now when I start the machine it looks like its updating something every time, and the wireless doesn't work. So I restart and everything is OK - until I have to start up again the next time - then I have to repeat this again! Any help appreciated.

I've been having the same issue, but have just discovered something on my own that hasn't been pointed out in any of the forums I've visited.  In what I thought would be a vain attempt to help myself, I went to System Preferences, Users & Groups, and then clicked on Login Items.  I discovered that one of the Items that was listed to open automatically upon login was iTunes Helper and that there was an exclamation point beside it indicating that it was incompatible.  I simply deleted that item and now I don't have the situation you described and my wireless is connected.  Hope this helps!

  • I installed Tiger and now my printer/scanner won't work

Hi. I installed Tiger and now my multi function printer/scanner/fax is not recognized by my computer. I have the Brother MFC 420 CN. I downloaded some drivers and such which I thought would resolve the issue, but still it does not work. What can I do? Thank you.

    According to this page:
    http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/macosxstate.htm
The MFC-420 CN is not listed. Sounds like you have a printer whose driver never was updated. Contact Brother technical support and ask them to fix that issue.

You cannot use a Windows machine.
No idea if this will work because you have/had Ubuntu installed - hit Command + Option + R keys while restarting/booting up. Once in the Utilities, make sure the drive is formatted correctly and erase it, then reinstall the OS.

  • Help Installing OSX Tiger on iMac G4, seems HD Volume Structure corrupted

I need help Installing OSX Tiger on an iMac G4 800MHz 17" Flat Screen LCD, 80 GB Hard Drive, 256MB RAM, DVD-R/CD-RW Super Drive, model# M8812LL/A. I have a Tiger install DVD and i put it in the drive and everything is fine....I go through the steps and when it gets to "Preparing the Disk" - "Verifying destination volume"....it just sits and nothing happens. It will go on for 20+ minutes or so and then the installer will quit saying there was errors during the update. Anyone got any idea what is happening? I'm running OSX 10.3 Panther currently. I just tried running Disk Utility using the install DVD.....it attempted three times and couldn't repair --- I then went out and purhased DiskWarrior --- I boot from that disk, it begins to run; then as it is repairing the volume it freezes and stays frozen for hours. I've rebooted and tried it numerous times with no luck. Is the HD no good? Should I just do a complete reinstall of Tiger and erase everything? I'd rather not, but I backed everthing up in case I need to. Also, when I ran TechTool Deluxe from the booted CD, it said the Volume Structure was corrupted. My Tiger disc is a retail full install disc that I purchased.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Use Disk Utility to Restore to a FW drive.
Use one of your FW drives, and create a 24GB partition - later you can reuse this for your emergency boot drive). Restore the DVD to FW volume. Boot from there to install with - very fast.
Low level format is what you probably want/need and the only way to do that is ERASE with the option to ZERO-ALL (after you backup any files you don't now have on disk or DVD.... and where are the backups?).
When you install it will also verify the DVD install disk itself.
Have you tried using FSCK from the command line? Or do you no longer have a valid system on the boot drive? Nothing to lose it seems at this point from trying. Just hold down COMMAND + S on startup. At the prompt, follow direction to type:
    /sbin/fsck -fy

  • How do I do a Clean install of Tiger and Classic?

My G4 came with Jaguar. OS 9 was part of the complete installation, that you could install or choose not to install. My computer has been having a lot of issues lately and I think that a clean install would be a good idea, especially, since I used an upgrade to install Panther and then installed Tiger on top of Panther. I want to install classic and Tiger. How do I do this properly? Thanks

I plan to back up my personal files and any
    downloaded software I have.
Amazing that. You've told us that numerous times, but
you've failed to provide us with information on
HOW you're going to do this. That is, please
explain WHAT you're using for the backup and
WHERE you're planning on using to store the
    backup.
All Power Macs come with the capability of burning CD's today. Mine can also burn DVD's, so backing up MY files is NOT a problem. I just can't clone my whole drive. Now, I'm not sure how this is pertinent in answering my question about how to properly do a clean install of Tiger and be able to install Classic. My son however, just told me he thinks that all I need to do is to clean-install Tiger. Then, insert the installation CD with classic on it that came with my computer. Find the invisible file, which is a disk image and drag the contents of the disk image to my computer. If anyone can tell me if this is correct, I would appreciate it.

  • Reinstalled Tiger and now my iTunes library won't open.

Hi. I reinstalled Tiger and now my iTunes library won't open. And I can't install the latest 10.5 version of iTunes on this Mac. How do I get an older version of iTunes that will run this library? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

This is an issue alot are facing rightnow because the quicktime bundled with itunes is more "Up to date" for now than the stand alone is. Even when its removed some of its more updated registery keys are left behind.
GO here and follow ALL steps for removing itunes and quicktime, apple updater and ipod updater EXCEPT DO NOT install itunes til you get to the bottom of the page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976

Please help me im buggerd without the mac.

    Hi Andy!
What size is the Hard Drive, and how much space is avaialble?
How much RAM is installed, and is it original or added?
Did you use a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD, to upgrade?
Did you do an Archive & Install, preserving User settings & preferences, installation, and if so, is the Previous System folder still on the HD?
