I really need a Mac OS X disk of any kind!

Does any one in the UK have a Mac OS X disk I could borrow as my iBook clamshell stopped working. Or does any one have a software restore disk. Thanx.

Going from 10.4 to 10.5 is not an update; it is a newer operating system upgrade which you need to pay for; however, 10.5 is already "outdated" because the latest OS - 10.6 - has been out for quite a while.
You didn't provide any details - model/year of your Mac - so can only guess at this point. If your Mac meets the system requirements for 10.6, you could buy that for $29 or less retail, or you could try to find 10.5 on ebay (beware of machine specific disks, they won't work - only look for retail disk).
Check the system requirements for 10.6 here:

My ipod has been stolen and i may need to get a new one i do not know what to do please help!

Find my iPhone is relatively useless when it comes to recovering a stolen device. Anyone with a bit of know how can defeat it in a matter of minutes. It's really meant  to help a person find a misplaced device.
Presume that any and all data and info on that device is compromised, do as Illass says, change any and all passwords to every account or site you accessed on the device and write it off as gone.

  • Hi guys !!  I have an iPhone 3GS and there is something wrong. I am trying to download the podcasts app and it says it requires iOS 7 or later. I'm really going mad and I can't download any kind of music or ringtone. Is there any easy solution.

Hello guys !! I have an iPhone 3GS, it's on iOS 6.1.3 but I'm unable to download the podcasts app because it says it requires iOS 7 or later.because of this I cannot download any type of music or ringtone.apple has done very bad as they r now only dealing with the latest and forgot about the previous customers. Any easy solution??

It was not legitimately unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it.
In order to allow it to be used on a different carrier, the phone was hacked or jailbroken. An unauthorized modification was made to the phone. That modification has damaged the phone. You can not get support for it here or from Apple.

  • HT201413 im having problem with my ipod. it cannot be recognize with my laptop. how to fix these? i already tried ur suggestions here but still didnt work. and also it cannot connect to itunes. plese I really need a help.

my ipod is not recognized by my latop and even not connecting to itunes. I also tried to connect to other laptop and it works. I think the problem is with the software, how to fix this? a big thanks.

Update:  I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure? Help!!

Try a Safe Boot to clear the dyld_shared_cache (dynamic loader cache)

Safe Boot, which automatically rebuilds this cache (among other things).

  • Hi. I am reinstalling Macbook Pro OS X from the "question mark icon". During process, there is a question "select the disk where to install Mac OS X" but there is no option/selection in the box. I really need your help guys. I need it badly. :'(

Hi. I am reinstalling Macbook Pro OS X from the "question mark icon". During process, there is a question "select the disk where to install Mac OS X" but there is no option/selection in the box. I really need your help guys. I need it badly. :'(

If you got the question mark and you do not see any partition to install OS X to, it is not good.
Close the OS X installer by pressing the red button at the top left corner of the Install OS X window, and open Disk Utility. Then, look at the left sidebar and tell me if you see your hard drive. You should see something like this:
Do not worry if you do not see Macintosh HD or if the option with an arrow shows a different name. This is normal.
If you see it, choose it, go to the Erase tab and erase the drive. Finally, close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. You will lose everything if you do not have a backup.
If you do not see the drive, it is damaged and it has to be replaced. You can replace the hard drive of a MacBook Pro without voiding the warranty, and any 2'5" SATA hard drive is valid. If you are not an experienced user or you do not want to go inside the MacBook, take it to an Apple Store or reseller.

  • HT4818 When I try to partition my hard drive for Windows 7, I get an error saying The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. I have a 2006 Macbook Pro I believe and I really need assistance as soon as possible.

I have Windows 7 Premium Home and I have downloaded the Drivers and when I click Boot Camp Assistance to partition my hard drive, it says, "The disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved. Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again." I can't do any backup really because I don't have an external hard drive to work with. I tried repairing disk permissions but that did not do anything. I really need a lot of help with this with some easy, step-by-step tutorials or something. I believe I have a 2006 version of Macbook Pro(4,1).

Once you have obtained an external drive and connected it you will 'clone' your internal drive to it.
Download Carbon Copy Cloner (it is not free but there is a fully functional trial version which is). Use it to clone your internal drive to your external drive. When that is done you will reboot from the clone and use Disk Utility to erase the internal drive (choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled)) as the format (this is normally preset, but check). Make sure to give the external drive a 'distinctive' name, don't want to get drives mixed up in this process.
Once that is done you will use Carbon Copy Cloner (from the clone) to restore the external to the internal.

Minimally you need Snow Leopard or greater:
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

  • Need 256 Bit AES Full Disk Encryption for a Mac.  The other discussions regarding this issue are very old.  Does anyone have any current advice regarding encryption software?

Does anyone have any advice regarding 256 bit full disk encryption software for Macs?  The other discussions on the topic are years old, so I would like some current input.  Thanks for your help in advance.

Depending on your Mac, you might not want to upgrade to OS X 10.7 or 10.8 as it will not run the PowerPC based software your currently using costing a bundle to replace it all, also they will slow down your machine if it's not a more recent issue. You don't want to upgrade OS X without AppleCare defending your possibly bricked logicboard that's for sure.
Filevault encrypts the boot drive, however in doing so makes it near impossible to fix if you have a software issue and need to recover files directly or by using specialty software. Also it robs the machine of performance even more than the Lions do. So you will really need a SSD to work best with 10.7/10.8 and Filevault, then it has to be freshly installed. Filevault needs 50% free space on the boot drive, then it's going to write to the slower 50% half of the hard drive where performance is terrible compared to the first 50%.
Also Filevault is cracked under certain conditions, and if someone gets their hands on the machine (like the law) and knows what they are doing.
If you take your Filevaulted machine to Apple to fix, they are going to require the password to fix the machine obviously.
Software based encryption is vulnerable, you might want to instead place your sensitive data on external self-encrypting hardware that doesn't rely upon software or computer hacks/bypasses (ike freezing the RAM) to get to it.
    http://www.datalocker.com/products/datalocker-dl3.html
Iron Keys for portable USB self encryption, both work with any computer, so your not locked into one platform.
With the senstive data off the computer and on a external device, there is the option of removing, hiding and securing the device. If used with a computer that's never connected to the Internet, it's safe from snoopers, except from a survelliance van parked outside your door.

Hello. My mac can't connect to my time capsule. There is no response and I can't put it back to the originals definitions because all my files are there and I can´t loose them. (sorry about my bad english, but I really need help!)

Your files are unaffected by a reset.. no reset via the reset button on the TC harms, deletes or does anything to your files.
    The Factory Reset universal
Unplug your TC/AE. Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. The time is not important.. it is the front LED rapid flashing that indicates you are in factory mode.
    Release reset.
If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have released reset at some point and try again.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Here is how to do a fully manual setup for TC which is sometimes necessary with Mavericks in particular.
Airport Utility shows "unexpected error - please try again" when connecting to Time Capsule

  • HT202174 In need to change from appleshare to mac os journaled disk format on my time capsule. How to proceed?

In need to change from appleshare to mac os journaled disk format on my time capsule. How to proceed?

No Time Capsule disk can be formatted other than the automatic system in the TC itself.. You simply select erase and it will reformat the drive.
If you are referring to a USB drive.. plugged into a Time Capsule.. you must plug it into your Mac and use Disk Utility.
However you do need to understand.. appleshare is not a disk format.. it is a partition scheme.. so when you pick the disk you need to change its partition to GUID.. this is nothing to do with Mac OS journaled format.. the two are distinctly different. Also Appleshare works fine for most people.. there really is no need to change.
Anyway here is how to do it.
I have sd card I can use as example. Click on the Partition Layout.. so you can choose something else.. notice it is presently set to Master Boot Record.. but is formatted Mac OS Extended Journaled.
When you change the partition layout Options at the bottom will become active and you can change the setting. Click Options.
Choose whichever. GUID is the current system for boot drives.
None of this is relevant to the internal disk of the Time Capsule.

  • SOS... PLEASE, I REALLY NEED HELP... MAC IS HAVING TROUBLE BURNING...

    Hey guys,
I am burning from IDVD, but after burning 2-3 DVDs on Dual Layer DVD's, it KICKS me out of the program. When this happens, I have to go BACK again and start the long burning process of rendering the menus, etc, etc... I don't know what's happening. Is it that the Mac has a problem? Or is this normal to render and burn an hour long DVD? So far, it has taken me the whole afternoon to burn JUST 2 DVD's. Is that normal? Also, is there a way to tell the MAC to burn a certain amount of copies, just like the Adobe Premier gives us that option? I can't seem to find that option anywhere. I have to burn 100 DVD's for Monday... I REALLY need your help.
    Thanks,
    Claudia.

If you've already created the disk image file (projectx.img), open disk utility (go 'utilities'>'disk utility').
If the disk image file doesn't show on the left hand side, drag the .img file there then select it. Hit the burn icon on the top left hand side of the disk utility window, then put in the dvd and choose the burn speed - you get better player compatibility and burn reliability if you burn at a slower speed - e.g 4x.
I've got 50 to do for Monday and so I feel your pain. The projects I'm burning are about 75 mins long and doing it this way, to burn at 1X takes about 1 hour, 4X takes about 20 mins.
Like Zak, I've no experience of DL discs so you may want to post and/or search the iDVD forum.

  • Mac start up wont work. I have tried safe start, command s / v , command r, pram, and more. Nothing helps!!! I really need to get back onto it. PLEASE HELP ME

My mac is only a year old. I am still under warranty but don't want to have to go to the store. I know it has something to do with not connecting to my hard drive and I want to make it clear that IT HAS NOT BEEN DROPED,BANGED OR DAMAGED IN ANY WAY!!
Here is what I have tried so far:
For safe start The loading bar shows up but then doesn't load. After a few seconds it disappears and the wheel continues to spin.
I have tried PRAM but it doesn't help at all.
The only way I can get it off the start off page is to either go to fsck or Mac OS utilites.
Fsck comes up as an error message for me when I put in fsck -FY. /sbin/fsck -FY also doesn't work.
Mac OS utilities really also doesn't much. When I try to back up my hard drive it recognizes the external drive but then has no where to put it to??? So then I tried reinstalling the lion software part bit it won't allow me because for some reason it is locked. So I also try to verify and repair my drive. An error message comes up so I know there is something wrong. But not what to do about it. So now I am here on the Internet.
I Really need to get this fixed!!! PLEASE SOMEONE PROVIDE ME WITH AN ANSWER TO HELP FIX MY PROBLEMS.

I really need help. I try to contact support to no avail. There simply is no option on the site, You are always referred to a further topic which has notihing to do with my problem. I bougnt a full master pack CS6 which I had installed on a mac for one year. Then, I decided to change it to another computer, so I sisintalled it according to instructions. In the meantime I got a free trial of creative cloud on that computer, but I gave up and decided to reinstall my cd-roms. However, everytime I try to use acrobat for instance it says that my trial period ran out! I disinstalled my cloud products, I am using my registered full master series items, they have nothing whatsoever to do with my creative cloud FREE subscription. If I try to cancel my free membership, it is to no avail, there simply is no such possiblity. I want to use the software I paid dearly for, not the cloud items I disinstalled and which do not interest me. How can I contact Adobe to fix it? It was no fault of mine, I did all I was supposed to, disintalling items before installing the right ones, but the system must have some error i am not responsible for.

open an app and click help>activate.
if you try to open an app and see a 'your trial has expired" window, click license this software and enter your serial number.
if you can't do either, run the cleaner and make sure cc is cleaned from your computer, Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try holding the Shift key while your Mac is starting to start into safe mode. Then, after starting in safe mode, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type /Library/StartupItems. Then, empty this folder and restart the Mac.
If your Mac starts after doing this, it was a problem with a third-party app that starts automatically when you turn on the computer. It won't start automatically anymore after doing that
