I REALLY NEED SOME TIPS TO GET SOME GB'S PLEASE!!!!

Please help

If you are referring to your Mac's startup disc getting full,
You should never, EVER let a conputer hard drive get completely full, EVER!
With Macs and OS X, you shouldn't let the hard drive get below 15 GBs or less of free data space.
If it does, it's time for some hard drive housecleaning.
Follow some of my tips for cleaning out, deleting and archiving data from your Mac's internal hard drive.
Have you emptied your Mac's Trash icon in the Dock?
If you use iPhoto, iPhoto has its own trash that needs to be emptied, also.
If you store images in other locations other than iPhoto, then you will have to weed through these to determine what to archive and what to delete.
If you use Apple Mail app, Apple Mail also has its own trash area that needs to be emptied, too!
Delete any old or no longer needed emails and/or archive to disc, flash drives or external hard drive, older emails you want to save.
Look through your other Mailboxes and other Mail categories to see If there is other mail you can archive and/or delete.
STAY AWAY FROM DELETING ANY FILES FROM OS X SYSTEM FOLDER!
Look through your Documents folder and delete any type of old useless type files like "Read Me" type files.
Again, archive to disc, flash drives, ext. hard drives or delete any old documents you no longer use or immediately need.
Look in your Applications folder, if you have applications you haven't used in a long time, if the app doesn't have a dedicated uninstaller, then you can simply drag it into the OS X Trash icon. IF the application has an uninstaller app, then use it to completely delete the app from your Mac.
Download an app called OnyX for your version of OS X.
When you install and launch it, let it do its initial automatic tests, then go to the cleaning and maintenance tabs and run the maintenance tabs that let OnyX clean out all web browser cache files, web browser histories, system cache files, delete old error log files.
Typically, iTunes and iPhoto libraries are the biggest users of HD space.
move these files/data off of your internal drive to the external hard drive and deleted off of the internal hard drive.
If you have any other large folders of personal data or projects, these should be archived or moved, also, to the optical discs, flash drives or external hard drive and then either archived to disc and/or deleted off your internal hard drive.
Good Luck!

  • I really need some serious help with Encore import

Ok I will start off by saying  Iam a complete and total newbie to this field.  I have produced a few small projects in premier and encore but nothing advanced until now.
Here is what I have done
    I am using CS04 Suite
I have built a Premier Project using AVCHD footage that is 2.5 hours long (roughly)
I exported the final project using AME to H.264 so that I could import it into Encore
The files is 16 GB in size
I am trying to import the file as an asset into encore to build the menus,  I need to create 2 images in encore, one DVD image and 1 Blueray Image.  I am trying to do the DVD image at this time.  Encore allows the import, shows the video in the asset list but my hard drive has been running like a fool for 3 hours now,  I cant seem to drag it to the timeline, if I right click  I cant even access the Transcode setting of the file, my system is very sluggish.  It almost seems like it is pre-transcoding but I see no progress bars anywhere.
Is Encore simply still importing the file?
    Am I doing this correctly?
Should I break up the video into smaller files? Will I need to create multiple Premier Projectes to do so?
If I wait long enough will it be ok?
I have 6 days to finish this project... I really need your help !!!

An external ESATA would do just fine.
Keep all of your media on the external drive.  Only use the internal drive for Windows and your applications.
Your quad-core and 4 GB of RAM is OK.  Not great (I'd get 2 GB of RAM per core), but OK.

  • Need Some Basic Directions, Please

    Hi,
New to Nokia and this Ovi Suite. Have 2 brand new 6350's and ready to pull my hair out over the lack of directions for the basics I need to know. I've been all over the Nokia/Ovi site, reading the FAQs and watching the videos and browsing this forum but not finding what I'm looking for.
The directions supplied have you install the software then run it. During that first use of the program you are prompted to choose your connection method (USB for me), then to connect the USB cable to the computer first and then the phone to the cable. Then the phone asks you what method you want to use and to choose the 'PC Suite" method. Then you wait while the program and Windows itself (I am using Win Xp Home) do their things and you get all the pop-ups and info balloons re new hardware detected and drivers and modems, etc.. until finally you get a Windows balloon notifacation showing "ready to use..." and the program shows your phone there in the lower left and all seems well.
    OK - but then what????
What  is the proper way to end your session?
Do you unplug the phone from the cable and then close the program, or do you close the program first then disconnect the cable from the phone?
Are you supposed to leave the program running in the System Tray or can you click 'Exit" from there to make it close totally so it's not sucking up your resources while not actually in use?
Then next time you want to connect the phone to pc and use the program ... ? Do you connect the phone to the cable first then open the program, or do you open the program first and wait for it to prompt you to connect a phone?
Do you have to screw around each use with connecting/disconnecting the USB cable to the computer each time, or can you leave that end plugged in 24/7? If left plugged in 24/7 does rebooting the computer mess it up?
When ending a session and unplugging the phone from its end of the cable,  are you supposed to use the 'Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the Windows System Tray? Is Windows supposed to make a "bing-bong' sound every time you connect or disconnect the phone from the USB cable, or only the very first time when it detects it as new hardware?
I've been having nothing but problems since I got the phones and cable and program (downloaded it form the Nokia website) on Friday and I think that a big part of the problem is that I am not properly starting/ending things as far as the physical connection  and THAT is what is not explained anywhere.
Please, please, please, someone, anyone, I really need step-by-step directions on the proper sequence for starting and ending sessions on a regular basis. I may want to connect my phone to PC several times a day but there are no directions on the Nokia/Ovi website for how to do anything past that first initial connection/ setup.

    Hey,
These r just my observations only which may give u an idea
Connectivity :- Since i dont hav Nokia 6350, i will try 2 give very generic answer
Once u want to connect ur device with Nokia Ovi Suite using USB, u may get few options(It may differs from one model to other)
    PC Suite or Nokia mode
    Mass storage or data transfer
    Image transfer
    Media transfer etc.,
If u r using PC Suite mode which is very common to use for connecting ur device with Nokia Ovi Suite, no need to worry about disconnecting ur session by removing ur usb using Safely remove hardware option.  U can unplug once ur session is over with Nokia Ovi Suite
But if u r trying to connect ur device using Mass storage or data transfer mode, ur device will be recongnised by ur pc as a memory stick or pen drive.  People wll select this mode if they want 2 transfer huge files to/from PC and phone.  Once ur operations are over(copying files, transferring files etc), to end this Mass storage or data transfer session, u hav 2 make sure that ur device will be removed using Safely remove your hardware method, this is because if u r using in Mass storage/data transfer mode, w/o using safely remove hardware method if u remove ur device from pc, chances are high some of ur data may lost or it may be corrupted etc., so its mandotary to use safely remove your hardware, if u r conencting ur device with pc using Data transfer or mass storage option.
It is advisable once ur session is done with Nokia Ovi Suite and ur pc, u close ur nokia ovi suite exit it from task bar.  u can unplug ur device from Nokia Ovi Suite(PC) once ur session is over.
    Hope its hlps

  • Replaced zd8000 motherboard and need some troubleshooting help please............

    Hello All,
I just replaced the motherboard on our HP zd8000 (pentium 4, 3.0ghz, 2gb ram, Win XP) with a used but tested good MB and need some help with the following.
    1) I now cannot play DVD movies as the error no "dvd decoder" present which was not an issue before?  Where can I go to get a free decoder that will work, as Windows only shows paid versions?  We have the dvd burner/reader with lightscribe. SOLVED! CNET HAD DECODER.
    2) The internal temperature, according to SpeedFan, is running around 140 degrees with just some Internet browsing.  Is that a normal temperature because I only have one of three fans running on the laptop?  Is there anyway of making all three fans run to be sure there are no issues?  I am positive I hooked up everything but again only one fan seems to be running?
    3) I discovered some of the pins were damaged in the card reader.  I may get the Seller to give me a discount, no intention of tearing it apart simply for that, but is there any concern of short or otherwise?
    4) Our battery stopped charging years ago, these were notorious for such, but I purchased a new one last year and hoped the replacement MB would allow charging again.  No such luck though.  Is there anything I can do, BIOS update etc, to make the battery charge?
    5) Anything you folks can think of for me to test to insure the new motherboard is working properly?
    Thanks, Ralph
P.S. This was a correct replacement board according to MB serial numbers.  Everything else seems to be functioning properly other than mentioned.  Our graphics went out on the original MB.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Some of the wires had pushed out of the harness that connected the other two fans.  I double checked and re-attached those so now the laptop is running quite a bit cooler.
    EVERYTHING IS GOOD TO GO!

  • So i dropped my mom's ipad and i dont know what to do... the sound and stuff works on it but the screen is black but it still has like a backlight i really need to know if this can be fixed PLEASE HELP!!!

so i droped my mom's ipad on accedent while walking inside helping carry bags inside... and at fist no one really thought anything of it but we got inside and my stepdad went to check something on it and was like um... something wrong and i guess the fall put it into shock or something but we held down the 2 buttons and it light up but it was black and just with the back light on. And it still wont work so im not sure what to do... I know where the slide to turn it on is so i did that and it made the click noise to signal it was on and i pushed where an app would be and it went to it and made the music to the app... so it works but for some reason the screen is being all stupid... I really need to know if there is a way to fix the screen because if theres not im in a ton of trouble... please help!!!!

I doubt there is you dropped it and broken the screen
try holding the top button and the round button at bottom of screen
hold both until maybe an Apple logo appears if nothing after 20 secs
    the iPad is toast
It can be exchanged at an apple store for around $249 to $219 depending on model
    Apple do not do repairs
I would own up now before it gets more complicated

  • Really need some help here to try and get Fios services in my building

I have been trying to convince my landlord for months to get Fios in the building.  Here is a recent email exchange with him.  Does anyone know if any of this is true, about the install damages?  If it is true, then Verizon needs to get their act together!
    Here is the email exchange.
    D-
I am sorry but we have no plans to let Verizon in to this building. They do
a lot of damage to the building and do not make the repairs after or pay for
    any damages they do.
    Thanks,

    Hey Steve,
Could you please do me a favor and speak with the building owner once again
about Fios?  I know you mentioned he wasn't to keen on the idea of them
doing the install but it would really make a big difference.  As of right
now my iPad's cellular connected internet is faster for $30/mo than the
$120/mo I'm paying Time Warner.  On top of that, I can't even watch HD
movies on demand.  I've had TWC out here twice in the last four months and
every time they claim nothing is wrong.  Its very frustrating.  I'll do
almost anything I can to assist in this.  Please let me know if you can do
    anything.
    Thank you as always!

If your landlord doesn't want FIOS in the building, then it's not going to happen.

Every time i try to burn a cd i get the blue screen error.

It also happens when i try to burn a cd with nero, i have WMP but don't use it. so now i really hope to get an answer or i have no other choice but to take it to a repair shop. SO !!PLEASE HELP ME!!

    no problems about the delay.
the 0x8E is reasonably generic. so let's try proceeding on two fronts.
1st front: we'll get a minidump to the Apple Engineers for a look
(the minidump can help identify the driver that seems to be causing the issue here.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing
2nd front: checking on a few possibilities ourselves while waiting for feedback on the minidump
    (a) device filter conflicts: blue screens with itunes while burning can be caused by device filter conflicts (i've seen 0x8Es before in cases of conflicts with old Roxio products). so perhaps try the techniques from the following document:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
    (b) malware:
malware is a known cause of 0x8Es. try downloading fresh definitions and running vigorous virus and spyware scans. if your security software providers offer them, try running online scans too. (they can sometimes pick up an infection in cases where the security software on the PC has been compromised.)
if your security software providers don't offer online scans, try running the Symantec online virus check. (apologies in advance ... it takes an eternity to complete.)

  • REALLY need some help with transparent background

This is really starting to bug me now as I have searched the forums and the web for hours and still cannot get this to work.
I am creating a simple one page site at http://freeselfhelpebooks.org/50ofTheBestPDProducts/
I want the header and footer image to have a transparent background with only the text showing, so that the text shows on the background image.
So far I have created the header image with a transparent background Modify > Canvas > Canvas Colour > Transparent all good so far.  I have added some text.  Then I save as file type PNG 32, however I still get the background as white as you can see above.
I have tried PNG 8 with alpha transparency, no transparency but to no avail.  I have even downloaded Photoshop CS6 and have the same issues.  What am I doing wrong here?

First of all, your header graphic is fine; it's a transparent PNG. Your footer is a JPEG, which does not support transparency, so you need to resave that file into a different format (like PNG32, or PNG8 w/alpha transparency).
As I was trying to suggest, if you're confused about your graphics, check them in a graphics editor or viewer, not in a web page inside a web browser. Web development is a complex beast, and a lot can go wrong.
In the HTML of your web page, there is a class called "content" being applied to tables and images. This class has a background image being applied to it, which is responsible for the white background on those elements.

  • GS60 2PE Hopeless really need some help here!!!

Hey MSIer, I just did a complete wipe on my hard drive and  now there's totally nothing left on the drive like really nothing so what I wanna ask is that how do I get back all the pre installed software including windows 8.1 itself, how?
Does anyone out there don't mind taking some time to help list down a guide on how to get back to how the laptop originally was(all the pre installed software including windows 8.1 iitself)? Your help is really much much much muchhhh appreciated!!! T_T

    Quote from: Syrellaris;112053
You should be able to restore using the Recovery Discs you made(if you made them..) or by pressing the F3 key during bootup.
Though, if you wiped all partitions on the hard drive, including the normally hidden recovery partition you are kind of screwed.. in that case you need to send it in for repair, but it will not be fixed under warranty.(if you dont have Recovery disc's)
    Quote from: JakeSully;112055
Yeah best option when getting a new laptop it is to create a recovery dic or USB recovery and atleast .iso recovery to that way incase you wipe everything on hard disk you can restore every partitions that was wiped including recovery partition that has copy of windows 8.1 64 bit that comes pre-installed.
I didn't do any recovery disc and have yet to try the F3 button that you mention. So let say even if the F3 is not working I'm totally screwed right?

  • Ok I REALLY need some help

Please post anyhting you can to help me out, I've had this ipod for so long now... and recently itunes has just been being incredibly stupid for me. So here is how it all began, few days ago i connect my ipod... and it auto syncs it, even when that function was turned off... replacing all of my music with the ones in my library ( completely different) k few days later i turn it on again, i got a new HD recently since my old one busted and i redownload itunes v8 and i cant put songs on my ipod. I try and put one on and it automatically puts it in my normal Itunes library, then in the shuffle playlist all you see is this 1 song being duplicated 111 times.... so now this Itunes has deleted over 30 GB of info off my ipod... all movies and songs.. so its completely clean which really makes me angry. I can't fix this.. i dont know what this is.. please help me >< i have already tried reinstalling it, unless there is some sort of function in options to actually get my god dan songs on without them duplicated 100 times and get this ipod working agian please I need help... i've spent all my day trying to fix this.. thanks for your feedback

I know this is a IPod forum
Actually it's not. It's a forum for feedback about Apple's discussions forums, as the title implies. I suggest you post your message again here:

  • Fried RAM slot?  Really need some help quick.

Hi guys. I have a major problem on my hands, that I hope you may be able to help me solve...
I have been working on a deadline for the production of a DVD that will be used as part of a mental health outreach program, and all had seemingly been going well, albeit slow with my OEM 512MB of RAM. I therefore decided to upgrade my RAM, first buying two 512MB DIMMS from macsolutuons, but these DIMMS produced crashes almost religiously after 5 or so minutes of uptime. After receiving a new shipment, ensuring they were from the same batch, all seemed to be well. The computer stayed up for days without crash - but when I put a load on it, namely video encoding to DV stream and to MPEG-2, poof - hard crashes.
I decided the RAM from macsolutions looked generic and suspected if I bought some real RAM I'd be safe. I purchased Viking RAM form macmall, three 512MB DIMMS, overnighted so I can make this deadline.
    Here's the catch...
If I use all three DIMMS, the computer crashes in less than 5 minutes of uptime religiously. If I use two of them, the computer seems to stay up without problems, but when it sees a load like video conversion places on the system, it locks up. When I remove all RAM, so only one 512MB DIMM is present, I can encode video, and I don't seem to get crashes.
When I bought the machine from Apple some two years ago, it came with one 512MB DIMM. I'm only hypothesizing here, but is there a chance that I received a machine that has a RAM slot 1 that's fine, but there's something wrong with slot 2 (or even 2, 3, 4)? In theory, when just surfing or using standard apps, the first slot meets the RAM need, but when more RAM allocation is needed under hard processes, and the system feeds off of slots beyond #1, then I crash. MenuMeters is installed so I can monitor RAM use, and sure enough, I mainly get crashes as my used RAM approaches 480-500MB.
It's really urgent that I get to the bottom of this issue sooner than later, so I can finish this project to meet my deadline. Assuming slot 2 and so forth are bad, could I use a single 1GB DIMM module?
Any advice is greatly appreciated. If i can repay the favor in any way, I'd be glad to.

I suspected the RAM as well, however when I use only one DIMM I get zero crashes. I have used each of the three DIMMS for one day each now, and no crashes, but the second I add another ino the configuration crashes occur. While I agree that cheap RAM is often the culprit, to me all signs point to a faulty slot 2.
I think I'll try getting a 1G RAM DIMM and only use slot 1 and see how that goes. Too bad, because I could really use more than 1G.

  • Really Need Some Help with CME 8.6 using IOS as Firewall and Anyconnect VPN on Phones

    Hello,
I have a 2911 Router with IOS Security and Voice enabled and we are using CME 8.6.  I am using a built-in Anyconnect VPN on 3 phones that are for remote users and thus I needed to enable security zones on the router which works because the remote phones will boot up, get their phone configs and I am able to call those remote phones from an outside line.
The issue I am having is that when I try to dial a remote phone connected via the VPN through port g0/0 from and internal office phone, i.e., NOT involving the PSTN then there is no audio.  It's as if no audio is going back and forth.  When I take off the security zones from the virtual-template interface and the g0/0 interface then the audio works great and I can reach the phone from internal as I am supposed to.
Could someone take a peek at my security config and see why audio would not be traveling through the VPN when I have my security zones turned on?

Would you be able to change the entry to permit ip any any (just for testing purpose) and then test to see if the calls function properly.  If they work fine then we know that we need to open som ports there.

  • REALLY need some help with my problem (Netgear and...

    Hi everyone,
    Well... where to start really.
This morning around 5am, I lost connection to the net, yet my Netgear (DG834 wired) showed an uptime of 117 hours, so it showed no reboot. It seems my IP profile was raised (As it was low before for my sync).
I had no reboot it seems, but my noise margin went up to 9db from 6db. This is fine as it means I should be getting around 6.5meg IP profile going by the sync. Anyway (This is complicated to explain but bear with me).
My current IP profile is now 7.15K. I know this will come down now to match my sync at 9db (Which should be 6.5meg).
What is happening, is that any change made to my broadband (Like my IP profile being raised this morning) means that I cannot then connect to the net, and anything connected (Like Xbox Live etc) disconnects, even though the router shows no disconnect, and all the lights are green.
The only way for me to reconnect to the internet then is to MANUALLY reboot the router, because no matter what website etc I try to view, it just says "Looking for..." in the bottom left corner of the browser, and I can't connect to anything like Xbox Live etc.
Can anyone explain why this is happening with the Netgear router? Shouldn't any change, like an IP profile increase not affect my broadband connection? It seems whenever a change is made BT side, I have to then manually reboot the router to get online.
I wondered if anyone with a netgear, or anyone with some knowledge on this could tell me why. This could save me a lot of headaches down the line and stop me having noise margin raised etc because I have to manually reboot the router to get it working again. I just thought that any change, like an increase in IP profile etc, shouldn't affect my connnection and force me to have to manually reboot the router to get it up and running again.
I hope you understood what I was trying to explain, and thanks in advance for any responses.

    Hi John. Thanks for responding.
I have been through the options on the router and can't find one that says auto connect at all.
It seems the router is not disconnecting though (Like this morning when the IP profile raised), as the uptime on both WAN and LAN were showing 117 hours, and all green lights were on, on the router. It's just when a change on the BT side is made, it won't let me get on the net until I do a manual reboot. It's all very baffling to me really.
I tried googling my problem to no avail also.

  • Error 4261 - really need some help from one of you pros!

I keep getting error 4261 when I try to burn CDs. I was able to do it for awhile just fine and suddently I can't anymore. Each time I try now I get partway through burning and it stops, the disk is ejected, and I get error 4261.
Here's what I have tried so far with no luck:
    1. Decreased burn speed to 2x, on both iTunes and my CD burner
    2. Turned off my virus scanning software (Live One)
    3. Tried various makes of disks
    4. Tried burning a new mix with just songs that I had ripped from my own CDs (i.e., no "protected" iTunes)
    5. Updated to latest version of iTunes (7.3)
    6. Tried going back to version 7.2
    7. Ran diagnostics:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    Any suggestions???

There are a few points of interest on your Drivers and downloads page at Dell.
    Dimension 5150/E510 (XP)
Check to see if the firmware on your HLDS GWA-4164B HH 16X DVD+/-RW is up to date. (That's the drive itunes is identifying as an HL-DT-ST.) at least one of the Dell firmware revisions to that was urgent and related to reading and writing to media.
    Also,
Check to see if the Chipset drivers for your Intel Chipset are up to date.
Check to see if your Dell Dimension System BIOS is up to date.
Check to see if the video adapter driver for your ATI Hyper Memory PCI-Express X16 (DVI/VGA/TV out) Radeon X300 SE is up to date.
Once you're satisfied you're up to date, do you still get the 4261?
