I tried to add a movie ti iTunes and a message came up saying I do not have the privilege to make changes. How do I get the privilege to make changes?

Solution:
Open Disk Utility.
Select your external hard disk and run a “verify” on it. After a few minutes (depending on the size of your drive), you should be good to go. You don’t need to run a “repair” on it... (at least I didn’t have to). See photo for reference.
This should fix the permissions issue, because on my Mac running Mountain Lion I was unable to edit the permissions in the get info dialog window even after "unlocking" the drive.

I tried to use an external hard drive from my windows computer that was formatted in NTFS Windows format. Mac Pro sees that hard drive as "read only". Itunes works on existing media on the hard drive to play music or movies, but when you try to purchase from itunes store and download you get the above message. When I try to import anything into my library, I get this error message-
"Error occurred while converting the file "song name here". You do not have the privilege to make changes."
My i Tunes library is located in an external hard drive, but this has caused no problems before, nothing has changed in my system.
Any ideas?

Found someone else replying to a similar problem and this is what they said...Not sure if this will help but I am trying!

Check if you have read & write permissions on your iTunes folder.
in finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so

you may also give everyone read & write access. if this doesn't help, try the same on your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder).
