I receive secure connection failure if I try accessing certain websites

I have been trying to access certain websites and I keep getting secure connection failure for about a week now. When I try using other browsers they don't work either. I tried most of the troubleshooting methods mention here but its still persists. Below are the screenshots of the message I receive and the browser console error message.

Strangely, I noticed a couple of https sites I had trouble logging into from a link inside a https site.
In System Preferences I went to Accouns and for myself unchecked "Enable parental controls".
I was then able to log onto the the https site.

  • Secure connection failure in browser for https sites

Recently I kept getting the error message "Secure Connection Failure" when using Firefox to go to https sites. I had a similar problem when I tried using Safari to connect to https sites.
I fixed the problem by opening System Preferences > Parental Controls > selecting the appropriate User (as long as you have administration rights) > selected Allow unrestricted access to websites (by default Try to limit access to adult websites automatically is selected).
Once I checked unrestricted access I was able to go to the https sites I wanted, which were my bank's site and the Firefox homepage for FAQs. Then I went back and checked "Try to limit ...". That brought back the error message again so I checked "Allow unrestricted access ...".
The issue may have arisen because I downloaded a system security update a few days ago. Perhaps it reset the Parental Controls default.
It would be good to block adult sites but the alternative seems to be to customize in Parental Controls the sites that are OK. This would be a tedious job because so many sites are https eg this site.
I no longer have a problem but thought this might help others.

    Hi, I'm having problems accessing certain websites. Certain websites are giving me the following error (in Firefox);
    "Connection Interrupted
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."
I get similar errors in the other browsers. I tried connecting to them via a proxy and it works. I also asked a friend to try and they work for him on Virgin, so definitely seems to be a problem with my connection.
I also got that error intermittently while browsing the forum here. One of the websites I can't access is mine, so it's getting annoying not being able to do stuff I usually do.
I have turned off/unplugged my home hub, but that didn't help.
    Any ideas? Thanks.

I did a traceroute on one of the websites that I can't access

  • Auto image load failure, ssl failure, secure connection failure

First their is a problem with some ssl web sites, now I have read the article and if it had worked I would not be posting this here. so for the last time, I go to a bank web site it has the page that tells me to add a exception. then when i get to the page for the exception it says their is no problem and no exception will be added. period. it is a loop, it will not not not let me add the web site to the exception list and sits their and fights with me. when i go to add it to the list it says no their is no problem with the cert so it will NOT be added, but when i try to go their it pops up the page again saying i cant go their because their is a problem. so this is a loop which means it does the same thing over and over and over again. so trying to add it to the exception list can not happen because firefox will NOT let me add it and will NOT let me go their any longer.
Problem 2. I was not able to post a question in this forum until i told it to search for bearded dragon as the problem with firefox THEN and ONLY THEN would it let me open this question.
problem 3 : in ebay in my own listings i am having a auto load image failure, yes yes yes I did add the web addresses under auto load images , exceptions and allow for both hosting web sites and even though they are in their it will still NOT NOT NOT load the images. it will make me, by forcing me, to go to view 1 image on the page then it says WARNING YOUR ABOUT TO GO FROM A SECURE CONNECTION TO A UN SECURE CONNECTION. then AFTER I say yes and go to view that 1 image it unlocks all of the other images on the web page.
and why is that happening because the firefox is not programmed correctly as in the base coding i can not change, I would need to tell it to STOP STOP STOP blocking the images and stop warning me when i am going from a secure connection to a unsecure connection.
and it will not not not for the love of god not load images on ebay in secure when the images are hosted from a unsecure web site.
their is really no discussion, I am simply telling you all what it is doing, period.
I have a iq of 165 and I am not stupid so what I am saying it is doing is what it is doing.
so telling me to read crusty old articles will just make me madder as I have all ready read them front, back, up side down and sideways and if they really worked like it says they do you would not be reading this.

so far under 9.0it is accepting the security certs, so I do not know if that happened again if it would have the same error or not.
but ty 4 trying to help.

  • How do I over-ride a secure connection failure to access the IP address for my wirelss router?

I have a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. Yesterday all wireless functionality dropped out. I tried going to the router's IP address and got this message:
    Secure Connection Failed
An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.1.1.
You have received an invalid certificate. Please contact the server administrator or email correspondent and give them the following information:
Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority. Please get a new certificate containing a unique serial number.
    (Error code: sec_error_reused_issuer_and_serial)
I searched for this message in Firefox help and tried the steps listed on:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Certificate%20contains%20the%20same%20serial%20number%20as%20another%20certificate
But it did not work. I could not access the IP address. I needed to do so, to reset and re-secure the wireless router. I was able to do this in IE because there is an option to ignore the warning. I would like to be able to access the router in Firefox.

Delete the certificate in servers and authorities.
    Enter URL about:config
    Change browser:ssl_override_behavior to 1
    Accept the certificate again

  • Suddenly getting a warning about a self issued certificate for a secure connection failure..is this a spoof?

  • Not able to access certain websites: "connection refused"

    This is a repost of:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2035299&tstart=0
I thought I had been able to resolve the problem, but it turns out that I haven't.
When I try to load certain websites on my MacBook Pro I get a page load error. In Firefox this error states that "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.whatever.com"; in Safari, "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.whatever.com/” because Safari can’t connect to the server “www.whatever.com”.
This is specific to my MacBook Pro. If I use my girlfriend's Macbook or my iPhone on the same network to access the same sites, the sites load as usual.
Also, if I perform a Safe Boot on my MacBook Pro I am able to access the sites.
Any tips on how I can resolve this?

Since you can connect with a Safe Boot, you'll have to resolve the conflict within the original account when 3rd-party stuff's running. Create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem persists. Report back.

  • My ipad is connected to wifi, but wont access any websites.  Help.

My iPad says it is connected to WiFi, but it won't access any websites.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.

  • Can't receive email - connection failure

Since last nigh, the inbox in my Mail program (both computers) has had an alert icon. When activated, it says ... "There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Check the settings for account "XX" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The connection to the server "mail.mac.com" on port 993 timed out."
I can send email (apparently ... it goes) and I have access to the internet.
This is happenig on both computers with .Mac account.
Any ideas? Started last night. Mac Mini. MacOS 10.4.5 512 ram 1.5 GHz
    Thanks. RR

I did exactly what SiJmons recommended above and my Mail program is working normally once again! My .mac remained but I had to re-establish my ISP earthlink accountas per sijmons. After that it works good on both my desktop and powerbook. The question is, what happened? Is there a virus out there or did Apple have a timed clitch in the Mail program. What would have caused both computers to fail receiving mail at the same time, oh, other others out there?
    Again, the fix:
    Trash the following file:
    your home directory / Library / Preferences / com.apple.mail.plist
    and empty the Trash
    Restart Mail
    Re-install your mail settings
Thanks Sijmons! You are the Man today!

  • Wifi/Internet Connects, but Will not allow me to access certain websites

I have sudden-link 3G/5G wifi personal network at home. It has 50 mbps and I have access to many websites. Now here is the problem, whenever I try to use a search engine, it will not allow me to use it. I have tried using google.com, yahoo search engine, and bing. It will not even allow me to use Facebook. My girlfriend has a lenovo and all of her websites work just fine, even the search engines. So that tells me it is not a network issue, it is a macbook issue. I have looked at many other troubleshoots, tried changing ip addresses and dns server problems and even proxy servers. If anyone has any other troubleshooting tips or any kind of answer to this, then please let me know. It is quite annoying when I try to use a search engine and it won't work.

  • We are receiving a "Secure Connection Failed" error message when using Firefox Version 37.01. What is the remedy?

We have multiple websites that do not launch now as a result of the recent upgrade from Firefox version 36.04 to version 37.01. We received "Secure Connection Failed" error messages which indicate that the connection was interrupted while the page was loading, and that the page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. Please explain why this is happening, and if a fix will be issued soon by Mozilla, as everything was operating normally prior to the most recent Firefox upgrade. Alternatively, please identify browser settings that can/should be changed in order for Firefox to access these basic Internet sites (that are completely accessible using other browsers such as IE and Google Chrome). Thank you.

FYI, I work with the original poster. I looked at the suggestions on that page but none were the issue. Then I found this thread:

And that appears to be the problem we and others are having.

  • Firefox says Google Services is Secure Connection Failed (sec_error_inadequate_key_usage). It does not give me an option to load the page anyway.

Detailed error message is below shown :
    Secure Connection Failed
mail.google.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate does not come from a trusted source. (Error code: sec_error_inadequate_key_usage)
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site.
    Try again
I am using Windows 7 ultimate and I have Kaspersky Anti virus 2013 for internet security.
I am using Firefox version 30.0.
I have tried opening google services with different profiles(guest, administrator, standard user) but each time the same error messages are displayed and google services can not open.
Is this problem is created because of missing authorities certificates? I am using firefox on another computer but it has more authorities certificates than this computer with error message. In other computer google(search, mail, maps etc.) services are working correctly.

It may be Kaspersky intercepting your secure connection to Gmail.
Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled to verify if this is the case.
Do you see this problem with other secure sites too?

  • ITunes is extremely slow and I cannot make a secure connection

When I connect to iTunes my computer is extremely slow, and when I try to connect to the iTunes store I get the error message cannot make a secure connection.  I have internet access and I have ran the iTunes diagnostics test and all the tests passed except making a secure connection.  I have disabled all of my security systems including my firewall and Norton.  I am not running any proxy settings.  This has been an ongoing problem for over a month and I am at a loss.

Check out this Apple article -> iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting
Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows)
Configure Internet Options (for Windows computers only):
Run iTunes Diagnostics. If the "Secure link to iTunes Store" section does not pass, do the following.
    Open Internet Explorer.
From the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
    Click Connections.
Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Networking," choose "Never dial  a connection." It may not be possible to choose this if you’ve never used  dial-up Internet; if this is the case, skip to the next step.
    Click LAN Settings.
In the window that opens, enable the option to "Automatically detect  settings" if it is not enabled.
iTunes uses Internet Options proxy settings. Apple recommends  removing proxy settings that interfere with access to the iTunes Store  if needed.
    Click OK.
    Click the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Security section and look for the option to "Check for server certificate revocation." If it is enabled, disable it.
Look for Use SSL 3.0 and Use TLS 1.0. Make sure at least one of  those two checkboxes is selected and click OK (You can select both checkboxes).
Apply any changes, and restart your computer if you modified the option to "Check for server certificate revocation" (step #11).

  • Connection failure when connecting to the net with...

I hope someone can help me. I have got Nokia PC suite on my PC. I often use it to connect to the net. Just recently I had a few viruses on my pc and now since they have been cleaned off I keep getting a connection failure when I try to connect. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling my software but nothing seems to help. I know it is something to do with my pc as I have tried four different phones that do work on other pc's, just not this one.
I have checked to make sure all the modem settings are right and that the phone is detected as a modem.
