I received an email stating that I won a MacBook Retina, is this a scam?

I received an email on Saturday, December 7, stating that I had been randomly selected as a winner of the new MacBook Pro Retina.  The email states that all I need to do is complete a survey which is has a link to.  The details of the email show that it came from Apple ([email protected]) and in the body of the email it gives a link to the support page if there are any questions (Apple, store support team http://store.apple.com/us.).  Please advise if this is a scam or not.  Thank you for your time.

Someone made a purchase from my Apple ID to a device that was not mine – I received an email stating that this occurred, yet the only solution that Apple gave me was to change my password. When I look at my account, I can see the $20.00 purchase of music volumes that I did not purchase myself and was not uploaded to any of my devices; however, I cannot find a solution to getting my money back or to file a complaint against the unknown person that did this. Additionally, how do we prevent something like this from happening again, especially when I have an iPhone? What can I do in this situation?

Thank you for the suggestion. I did change the password; however, I generally will purchase gift cards to link to the account so that if something like this ever happened it would not be taken out of a credit card or bank account.

  • Hi, I just received an email stating that my Apple ID was just used

Hi, I just received an email to my private gmail that my Apple ID was used  to buy an app from the Apple Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with my Apple ID. The link sent allegedly to cancel the transaction, requires my credit card details. Is it a spam? Thanks a lot in advance for the clarification

Sounds like a scam to me or rather phishing and I would expect it to want your CC details .Hope you haven't responded
They are all over the world I get 2 or 3 a week similar  from " Apple "

  • I recently received an email stating that someone from Morocco had downloaded an app on a different computer. When I clicked on the link supposedly to change my ID and password. I noticed it asked for all of my info. Is this a scam?

    Dear Itunes customer,
Your Apple ID, was just used to download Flap Flap from the Mac App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID.
This download was initiated from Morocco.
If you initiated this download, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not initiate the download yourself.
If you did not initiate this download, we recommend that you go to http://tinyurl.com/mrx4a2y , to change your password, then see Apple ID: Tips for protecting the security of your account for further assistance.
    Regards,
    Itunes

Yes, it's a phishing scam to get your account and payment details - if you still have the email then you could forward it to Apple : [email protected]
Did you fill any details in on the page ? If you entered your password then you should change it immediately e.g by logging into it by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your iPad, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes, or via http://appleid.apple.com

  • I received an email stating that an app download was submitted by an unrecognized device.

when i clicked that i did not initiate this download, it asked me to sign in to apple, and give name, address, social security, mothers maiden name, credit card info including the security # on back, all of which looked suspicious.  how can i find out if this was a legit email sent by apple, or if this was a fraud scheme to get my info?

It's phishing. Forward the email to [email protected] and then delete it.

  • Has anyone gotten an email stating that someone in Spain used your Apple ID to purchase an app? Spam or not?

I have received 2 emails stating that someone purchased an app (TuneIn Radio Pro) using my Apple ID, but when I review my account in ITunes or the App Store on my computer, there are no purchases that are unknown. The email also states that it was purchased from Spain and the bottom of the email that tells the company name and address it has Hispanic characters in it. I am assuming it's a spam email but I just want to make sure.
    Thanks for any help!

It's a scam.  They'll typically want you to click a link if you didn't buy it, which then prompts you to sign in with your Apple ID and provide your credit card.  The website will look like an Apple one, but it won't be, and they'll steal your info.
You can forward it to [email protected]

I received an email stating that my credit card information had been changed but I haven't changed anything.

It is a phishing attempt. Do not respond. Do not divulge any personal or financial information. You can use the address below to forward the suspect email message to Apple.

You most likely did not change the password in the outgoing mail server section of your email account.
Go to Settings > Mail, Contact, Calendars > your email account > Advanced > Outgoing Mail Server
Re enter the correct user name and password in the outgoing Mail server section even though it may say that these are optional.

    Hi,
If you have the means to prove the computer was yours and that you sold or gave it away then you could try starting here
    http://www.apple.com/uk/support/itunes/contact/
You can access this page for a Local to you version from iTunes when it is logged into the Store and going to the bottom of the page and clicking Support.
In the page that appears in your Browser go to the bottom of the menu and click Contact Support.
In the page linked above (or your local version) click the iTunes Store Contact point on the right hand pane.
After than follow the options for Managing your Account until you are offered an email link.
    Email them the info.

Hello, I have Acrobat XI Pro for which I pay by monthly subscription. Each month, for the past three months or so, at renewal time, I receive a note stating that my trial period has expired and I cannot open my Acrobat Files. I have telephoned three or four times each time this happens and have been told that the matter has been resolved - it has not! At one time I had paid inadvertently for three account for Acrobat XI Pro running at the same time - I only need 1. I'm afraid that I may have just opened a second account by mistake in order to open my files. I repeat, I only require one account. Would you please advise and assure me that this matter has finally been resolved and that I will no longer receive these notifications each month..

I don't work for Adobe but it seems to me you might be signing in to Acrobat with the wrong Adobe ID.
Check the Adobe ID you use in Acrobat.
Check this Adobe ID on Adobe's to make sure that it has an active subscription.

As long as whatever installer got downloaded to your machine never ran, and if it ran you quit the installer and didn't let it complete, then you're fine.  For more information about this trojan, which is a variant of the MacDefender trojan, see:

I received an email attachment that I would like to copy and paste to a website. How do I do that?

Depending on the attachment I think you'll probably need to view and download the email on a computer - the iPad can be a little limited in what it can do with attachments.
