I recently bought a new Mac Pro within last few weeks and have notice many

software failures....way more than i recall ever having on my powermac g4 ffrom a year ago...
one of my most frustrating appl, icatioins now, is my Office osx (not the new 2008) version...this was brand new when i'd originally bought my powermac g4 back in late 2003. io was reassured by the Mac specialists that that version of mac osx would work find on the new Intel Mac Pro...yet consistently by 100% every time i try to directly start any of the Office apps, word, excel, powerpoint, etc...start up fails and i get the error saying this program has encountered a prob, blah, blah blah, and do i want to relaunch, report or ignore...i've tried relaunch with 0 success, and have reported numerous times now. HOWEVER....when i douible click on a file recognized by those apps, like a .doc, or .xls, then the app opens flawlessly as it should when i try the other way.
Aside from that, i seem to notice significantly less stability with software on this machine, though significantly less consistently in comparison to the office issue...
is this something others are or have been experiencing? is it an Intel issue? or a Leopard Issue? i'm doubting very much its an apps issue since the crashes have happened over numbeous apps...

That rules out the typo and MA. 2GB RAM is minimum, and Mac Pro needs more, but not that it can't or won't run simple programs adequately.
It does need 4 DIMMs to improve balanced symmetrical memory and bandwidth, and 8 DIMMs to realize full 7.5Gbps is all.
Often problems with Office deal with old prefs and configuration and more OS X related than Mac Pro.

  • I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant and my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.

I recently bought a new macbook pro and set it up using the migration assistant from my mac mini.  I can't get the text message forwarding feature to work with both computers.  It keeps saying that I only have 2 devices setup, my iPad and my macbook pro.  When I mess with the setting on my mac mini, it goes from saying that that is one of the devices to my macbook pro being the 2nd device.  I think that something happened as a result of my using the migration assistant and now it thinks that my macbook pro and my mac mini are one and the same computer.  Any ideas?

    Thanks, Sig.
The old computer is a 2.6 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
The new one is a 2.3 GHz intel core i7
In going over this, thanks to "tallking it out" with you, I did discover the Text Edit problem.  Because I've still been unable to get the new computer text size (fonts or whatever) to match the old computer, I did not notice that the curser is now different--the line midway down the curser has to be placed on the line I am working upon, otherwise the edits go elsewhere on the page.  Now, with a bit of difficulty, I am able to get Text Edit to work correctly.
If you have any ideas as to why my menu bar and Text Edit type are still so slow, I'd love to have them.
(I went through the process you suggested earlier, re my Trackpad preferences, and found no improvement.)

  • I recently bought a 2008 mac pro which came with leopard 10.5. I can't load any new programs because it calls for a password, but it won't accept it. I bought new snow leopard 10.6.3 but I can't load it for the same reason. How can I completely reboot.

Help. I recently bought a 2008 Mac Pro from Mac of all Trades. It came with Leopard 10.5 installed. When I set initially started the computer, I followed the instructions on the screen. I was asked to set up a password which I did. Since I'm very forgetful and not too tech savy, I wrote it down as I typed it in. I first went to install Office Mac 2011 but when it asks for a password, it won't accept the one I set up. I was told that if I bought the new Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and installed it, that it would reset everything. Well, it won't allow me to load it without the password. I am new to Apple - this is my first. I have always been able to "reboot" a computer with discs but I'm not sure how to do this one. Is there a way to do it without the password and reset everything? Could somone please email me
    Thank You. David Moore

If you don't have original install disks for your Mac, you can order replacements disks directly from Apple at a nominal cost. The original install DVDs are required to reset the password.
If you have no data on your drive that you want to keep, you can boot up from the OSX Snow Leopard disk and install OSX SL.
Insert the Snow Leopard DVD and hold the C key during startup. The Mac should boot from the CD/DVD drive into the installer.
Follow the prompts, erase the disk and install OSX Snow Leopard.

I have an old Mac book pro which had hundreds of photos in iphoto. recently bought a new mac book air. now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!

now my iphoto library on the old mac book is gone!!!!
How did you search for the iPhoto Library?
What do you mean by "is gone"?  Is the iPhoto Library missing from the Pictures folder?  Or does iPhoto launch and show and empty library, and you assume, that the library is missing?
Which version of iPhoto is installed on your old Mac?
Search with Find Any File for iPhoto Libraries -  download Find Any File here: The trial is free:
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.htmlhttp://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/index.php
You can search everywhere with FindAnyFile, where Spotlight will not search.
I learned this  from Old Toad , see his post here:
Re: My iPhoto Library disappeared...how do I get it back?
Download and run Find Any File to search for a file with "ThumbJPGSegment" in the file name. These are files common to all versions of  iPhoto libraries.
FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages. If there's a library hiding somewhere on your hard drive FAF will find it.

  • I bought a new Mac Pro from an Apple store, it was sold as factory sealed, but it's reconditioned - it has some strangers entire photo, library from 2003 to 2011 in the trash bin.

. I bought a new Mac Pro from an Apple store 2 days ok, it was sold as factory sealed, but it's reconditioned - it has some strangers entire photo, library from 2003 to 2011 in the trash bin.
I was bought a Mac book pro as a birthday gift from the Apple Store in Leicester, after completing the initial set up procedure, I noticed that  the trash bin was full of some one's entire photo collection from 2003 to 2011.
This is entirely unacceptable for Apple: How long have Apple been fobbing of consumers who believe they were genuinely purchasing a 'new' Mac book?
How is it that I have someones entire photo collection on my 'branch new Mac Book Pro' - these photos included wedding photo's, birthday celebrations, family celebrations and children. Its a serious breach of data protection, it's an invasion of some poor persons privacy and private photo collection. What concerns me the most, is what could have happened if those photo's had fallen into the wrong hands. We managed to trace, locate and contact the person who the photo's belong to within 10 mins using information taken from their wedding album.
Understandably these people are also very distressed that their personal photos are on my brand new Mac Book pro.
I would like details of who to contact in regards this incident.

  • Recently bought a new Macbook pro...want to swap hard drives with my old macbook pro

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro:
    13 in, 2.5 GHz Intel core i5
    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    500 GB HD
Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
    Mid 2012 model
I'd like to install the 750 GB HD (with Bootcamp Windows 7 install) from my old macbook pro into my new macbook pro.
Here are the old computer's stats:
    13 in, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
750 GB (This is a WD I bought and upgraded myself into the old computer)
Intel HD Graphics 300 384 MB
    Early 2011 model.
My question is this: the guy at the tech shop said he didn't think swapping out the hard drives would work because the 750 GB HD in the old machine would have the drivers, etc. installed for that architecture. I think he might be wrong.
My question is this: if i were to swap out the 750 GB HD from the old machine, would I experience any issue in running both Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Windows 7? Or is homeboy right -- is this architecture too different?

That is normally the case, however Apple has been known to include the drivers for all previous models that can run that version of OS X when a software update occurs.
One way to find out is to remove the 750GB out of the old machine and use a SATA to USB adapter cable to the new Mac, then reboot holding the option key down for Startup Manager, which the external drive should appear as a bootable option, click the arrow and see what happens.
Even if it does boot, there is a issue of copy protected apps (and free iLife) not being compatible with that new machine. So you might want to test that for awhile and update etc., before doing a actual hard drive swticheroo.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If it doesn't work, you can use Migration Assistant in the Utlities folder and it will move all your apps and files from OS X. (using the SATA to USB adapter)
A paid program called WinClone 3 that runs in OS X can clone your Windows partition to the new BootCamp parttion on the 500GB drive.
Windows will complain because it's on new hardware, so you will have to jump through Redmond hoops.

  • I have Photoshop CS2 for the MAC and it stopped working on my MAC. I recently bought a new MAC, an iMAC. There appears to be no way to contact Adobe about this.  What do I do? Ed

I have Photoshop CS2 for the MAC and it stopped working on my MAC. I recently bought a new MAC, an IMAC and it doesn't work on that either. There appears to be no way to contact Adobe. What do I do? Thanks, Ed

That because the activation servers were retired. Now for the good news:
Adobe has provided a non-activation version of Photoshop CS2 free of charge for their CS2 license holders.
Download the Mac version of Photoshop (not the suite) and copy down the serial number next to it.  Do not use your original serial number or cs2 disc.
Download Acrobat 7 and CS2 products
Uh... one more thing CS2 is PPC only.  OSX 10.6.8 has Rosetta to run legacy PPC products. 10.7 and above will not.
    Good luck,
    Gene

  • Bought a new mac pro but when i log in to my itunes account my music is not in my iTunes

bought a new mac pro.  I authorized the laptop.  But I don't see my music when I logged in to my itunes account.  I'm not sure what else I need to do.

It will not magically appear on a new computer.
It will only be where you put it.
Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. You can see what content you can download here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5085
You can also re-download content using an iOS device.
    For full instructions, see:

Or you can just copy the iTunes library from your old computer to your new one, if you still have the old computer and it's in working order.

I bought a new Mac Pro and migrated my FCP from my old one. But the new old won't accept my product serial number. Help!

Was the FCS on your old machine an upgrade? You will need to enter your original, full version serial first, and then you will be prompted for the upgrade serial number.
    Hope this helps.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

I recently bought a new mac including OS X Lion and the store manager told me that I can also trasfer it to my old mac but I don't know how! Can anybody help me?

You were given wrong information. The copy of Lion on your new Mac is licensed only for that machine, and you can't copy it to another one. If you buy the Lion upgrade from the App Store, you can install it on all the Macs you personally own.

To my knowledge the apple ID you registered your new mac to received all the included apps.  Try using that apple ID and see if it works.
