I recently bought a used macbook and if it doesn't have iMovie already installed on it does that mean I am going to have to buy it from the app store?

I just bought a used macbook and its been completely updated, but I cant find imovie on it. Some of the other iLife appliations are already installed onto the computer though, am I going to have to buy imovie from the app store?

iMovie is not part of iLife anymore. If you want iMovie you will have to purchase a boxed set iLife '09 or '11 that comes on DVD. It's not available in the App Store. You will find boxed sets of iLife via Google and Amazon.

  • I have 1 iMac, two users (myself and my wife), 2 different Apple ID's, and I want to buy Pages from the App Store so we both can use. Is this possible without having to buy it twice?

I am wanting to purchase the Pages app from the App Store. I do not want to purchase it 2 times, once for me, and again for my wife. We both share the same iMac, and we both use seperate Apple ID's. Is there a way to purchase it under my user, and have it download to her user as well? I have searched all over the forums for a cut and dry answer to this, to no avail. Any help in the matter would be appreciated, as I am a newbie on the Mac.

No. You need to buy it for your Apple ID and for the other. You will have problems with updates

  • I bought a new imac with lion preinstalled. How do I upgrade my 2009 MBP to Lion without having to buy it from the app store?

When I purchased it I was told that I can use Lion on up to 10 Macs under the license agreement.

I'm sorry to tell you that whoever told you that was wrong.  The version of Lion that comes WITH a new computer is only licensed to be used with that one computer.  Now, when you BUY Lion OSX from the App Store THAT copy is indeed licensed to be used on several Apple computers that you own.
Hopefully that helps.  (You'll find other threads in this Forum, that repeat what I have told you.)

From the App Store meny bar click Store > Check for Unfinished Downloads
And check your Applications folder for the app.

  • I'm trying to download and install lion onto my computer, but I can't because I have not purchased lion from the app store

I have erased my hard drive, so I can't buy it from the app store, even so - I can't find it. I do not have a disk that works with this computers software either.

I'm a little confused by your post. What exactly is it that you're trying to do, and what OS (if any) is installed right now?
If your computer originally came with an earlier OS and you have lost your disks, you will need to obtain those to restore it to its original condition. You can buy the retail 10.6.3 disk if your original OS was earlier than that ; otherwise you will need the exact grey original disks, which Apple can provide if you call them.
If Lion is not available on the App Store, again, Apple should be able to sell you a redemption code to allow you to install it - but you would have to install 10.6 first to get access to the store.

I recently bought a new macbook and installed Acrobate Pro. My settings/preferences did not come over and I do not have the same style options for my signature.  It now only allows me three options and the style I have been using for the last year is not there.  How do I add additional options and get my preferred signature style back?

    Hi Amanda ,
Which version of Acrobat are you using?
Which signature style are you talking about?
You can go ahead and try uninstalling and reinstalling it and see if that works for you .
Use the cleaner tool to uninstall it .Here is the link.
Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
You can refer to the following link to re install it .

Recently bought  a new computer and all my music appears in iTunes as well as on my computer in a saved folder. When I try to play the music in iTunes I get an error that reads"the song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" Hope you can help me solve this issue.

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Is it possible to get iTunes to sync and match my iPhone? I recently bought a new Macbook and I transferred all of the music files on my old computer to the new one. I don't want all of the music files, only the ones also on my iPhone.

Basically I have a ton of music files in my iTunes library and included in all of those files are all of the music on my iPhone. I want iTunes to delete all of the songs in the library (and the song files on my computer) that are not on my iPhone.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
When you change syncing computers you have to/should have done this:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities

  • Hi, I still use an iPhone 4, ever since my recent update of iOS I cannot purchase apps from the App Store, and a message keeps appearing saying that, 'this item cannot be purchased from the US store, and please switch to the Malaysia store''.

I keep getting this message when I try to update my apps and when trying to purchase new apps from the App Store. I checked my iTunes ID and it turns out that the country shown there is the one that I am actually living in. And it is the same as my billing address, but when I tried to update my apps again, I keep getting this message, 'you are not eligible for purchase of this item from the US store, please switch to the Malaysia store'. How do I solve this issue.
Besides ever since I updated my phone iOS it has started misbehaving, quite irritably at times. Dropped calls, slow typing, apps open very slowly, apps cannot be updated with prompts coming up like, this app cannot be updated now, please try again. I had to delete quite a few apps and reinstall them again. I had a trouble free experience with this phone till now, but is apple losing its magic.

Thanks too all the people who responded. . . . (noone)
Got it sorted though. Seems that Apple has issues with multiple apple id's.
Seems i had to somehow remember and use the original id i had when i first bought my 1st iPhone. . . .
Even after that it was extremely hard to get my apps back on my PC.
If anyone else has the same problem. . . .email Apple. Cya.

  • I recently purchased, from the APP store, Lion for use on my MacBook Pro.  I wish to upgrade my IMac to Lion also.  Do I need to make a 2nd purchase or will the single purchase suffice?  If the single purchase will suffice, how do I facilitate ?

I recently purchased, from the APP store, Lion for use on my MacBook Pro.  To upgrade my IMac to Lion, need I make an additional purchase?  If not, how do I facilitate the IMac upgrade?

No, you do not need to re purchase Lion. You can re download Lion on all your authorized Macs using the same Apple ID.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.

  • I just bought a used iMac and I'm having problems updating my apps from the app store! it shows that i am signed in, but when trying to update, the email of previous owner shows and i cannot change it! how can i fix this?

how can i change the email from previous owner of the computer to mine?

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1a. If you don't own another Mac
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
1b. If you do own another Mac
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
    2. Partition and install OS X
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In thePartition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're irrevocably linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a lifetime limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

Although there will be many here that will sympathise with your situation, this is a user to user forum. Apple don't come here. The store (if you go to apple.com) now do real time chats. Failing that you'd need to call them to sort your issue out.
    Hope this helps
