I recently downloaded some itune music thro' my mothers windows pc, only to find my entire music library on ipod classic has disappeared

Ipod classic 160gb, windows pc,  I recently downloaded new music from itunes on my mothers pc, whilst onholiday. Once download completed I have lost my entire ipod music library, a mere 96 hours of music.  How can this be rectified?

I have an external USB drive plugge into my computer. I want to download my iTunes music library onto the USB drive for back up purposes.

It depends on what country you're in, whether or not you can authorize that computer, and whether or not the songs are still available in the iTunes Store. Any copies in the iCloud shouldn't be considered to be a substitute for a backup.

  • After synching, my 4S refuses to show my iTunes. music library that  I believe has been transferred successfully

After synching, my 4S refuses to show my iTunes music library that I believe has been transferred successfully as I used it 2 days ago.

I don't know what would cause a playlist to suddenly disappear on its own, unless you are syncing using wi-fi and your sync settings were somehow changed.  You may want to try syncing all your music off your phone (by unchecking Sync Music on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing), then sync it all back on.  Hopefully that will re-transfer your playlists and other music and they will stay there this time.

  • ITunes music library on iPod

I don't really need to have my music on two places: iTunes Library and iPod. iPod should be enough. But a lot of services and views are available in Library. So what if I put my entire Library to my iPod? It works! But in that case the music consumes twice more place, because it's held in two places. I tried to use hard links (HFS formatted iPod), it seems to be working, but really hard to find the files.
Do you know some solution for this problem? Or some method to make much more simply the hardlinking? (In fact when iTunes copies the music to iPod, it should be an ln instead of cp.)

If you want to delete songs from iTunes and keep them on the iPod you need to change the update option of your iPod to "manually manage music and videos" (this setting isn't available for an iPod shuffle, you can't delete from iTunes and keep the songs on the shuffle). The content of iTunes and the iPod are not syncronised in this mode so the two can be different, you can get details here:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod - Syncing Music
One major word of caution. You should consider investing in an additional internal or external hard drive to store/back up anything you can't replace such as iTunes downloads. Alternatively back them up to CD or DVD: How to back up your media in iTunes
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device: Safely Disconnect IPod
Don't delete anything until you have changed the update option. If by any chance you do however you can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Once you are connected the settings can be changed: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows

  • How do I restore iTunes music library from ipod(s) and gift card $s?

    Two Questions:
    1) Had to have my hard drive rebuilt due to a major virus issue with my computer. Had to remove all software. Now when I download my new version of iTunes and try to sync my iPod its looking for the previous software iTunes account and wants to either erase or transfer purchases from my iPOD. I do not want to lose my music library on my iPod. What do I do?
    2) How do I get my gift card $s back that I had in my previous iTunes account? I do not have the original cards anymore...

    1) Have you failed to maintain a backup? You should always maintain a backup.
    2) Sign onto your itunes account. The info is still in your account.

  • ITunes music from last 2 months has disappeared!

About 2 months ago and added approx 6 albums into iTunes from ripped CDs, I then sync'd them onto my iPod and also uploaded them onto the Google Play cloud (as I have a Nexus 7).
Although I use my Mac daily, I hadn't used iTunes since adding these albums until last night when I planned to add a few more CDs.  But amazingly everything I'd added in the last 2 months was gone!
I can't understand how they got deleted but everything had gone.  I've since recovered the tracks (via Time Machine and Google Play) but does anyone know if there's been any know bugs in iTunes.  I seem to recall there was an update to iTunes fairly recently - could this be the cause?  Maybe iTunes thought the files were corrupt and deleted them?
I've never seen anything like this before (I've been using iTunes for about 8 years) and I've never had any other problems with files disappearing.
    Thanks,
    M.

    Hello Mateus109

  • HT1386 unable to sync computer itunes music library to ipod

Have older model ipod touch without camera which has 153 songs on it .I recently added a new album from a cd, not purchased from itunes, but it now is only on the itunes library & won't transfer over to the ipod. What do I need to do ?

What exactly happens when you try to sync?
Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
If so have you done anything like update iTunes on the computer since it last successfully synced?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Does any media now sync to the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?

Restore your media from the backup of the computer created prior to restoring the computer.
You did create a backup, correct?  Not doing so would be extremely unintelligent.
iOS devices are NOT backup devices.
