I recently got a message with an exclamation mark stating "your computer name is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to ______"
How did this happen, is it phishing, malware, or did someone hit some button on here to change it. I'm hoping that someone else doesn't have access to everything on my computer now. Help!

Interesting name! You don't say what computer you are using, the OS or the nature of the network, home, office etc. Could you fill in a few details.

The fan on my target computer is whirring away and so it sounds like something is happening. But there doesnt seem to be any way of telling from either the traget or the source computer if the thing is actually working. When I restored my phone from icloud, half of my pics and videos have been deleted, the pics that were restored on my phone are very blurry, and the videos won't play. I get a message on my phone that says " the URL you are requesting is not found on this server". I have erased and reset my phone twice, but every time I do it, more pics and videos are deleted. I have backed up to icloud and iphoto, however, some of the pics are no longer on iphoto either. Is there someway to get the videos to play on my phone again? Make the photos not as blurry as they are now and to restore the pics and videos that have been lost? I really would love to have them back, this phone is supposed to be the best and right now it doesn't seem to be. Please help if you can.

My computer which is a packard bell vista operating system, recently stopped working as the power supply overheated and blew up and it has recently been sent back to the Know How team at PC world and it seems to be since it came back I now cannot open iTunes. I have also tried to search for iTunes in the search bar, I can see several files, but can't seem to open any of these either. I think that quicktime isn't working, either.

I would copy over the entire thing if you have room. With iTunes 10.4 though, you can download any previous iTunes purchases you have made in the past with your current iTunes account. While in iTunes, look at the left hand side of your screen and select "Purchases" and look at the bottom right corner of the screen and select "Download Previous Purchases". If you have an iPhone, iPod and/or iPad...you can do the same thing from each device. Nice new feature...just remember that those ripped CDs need a back-up!!! Enjoy...

Keep in mind that Firefox doesn't actually do email. If you are using Firefox to view your email, you are using a webmail service and their software is displaying your email. The sending and receiving of email is done by that software, too.

This message keeps recurring. "the name of your computer "Computer Name" is in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Computer Name2".

Okay, this keeps recurring and changing the name to 3,4,5, so on until I follow the instructions and rename it in Pref. This just started recently. It will behave itself after a full shutdown, reset pmu and zap the pram. But it won't last long.
Anybody have this happen?

If the computer you speak of is in an Active Directory Domain, your problem could be there, if the computer has been removed at some point - the original name could still be in the database. Contact your IT folks and let them know of the duplicate name.
Otherwise, there must be another computer with the same name, connected to the same network as you. The only other possibility would be some Netbios/DNS caching on your router, a server/workstation being used as a router, etc.
Run the maintenance routines - "sudo dscacheutil -flushcache", this will flush the DNS cache out, and then you could run - "sudo periodic daily weekly monthly". Without the quotes. The second one will take about 15 minutes or so. You may or may not need the sudo command on the first one.
This will clear the caches out and there will be noting erroneous to reference.
If you change the name, does it still do that? You can always rename it back, if you need to.

Let's try something relatively simple. Download and save a copy of the installer to your hard drive (don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet):

Now right-click on the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) that you downloaded and select "Run as administrator".

I have tried everything I could to fix this, but some things require actually being on Firefox, and since I cannot get on, I cannot click on the tabs to do it. I have removed things like Java, and that has not helped either. If I cannot even get on line in firefox, how can I fix this.
