iPods and other iDevices are not backup or storage devices.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder (and all other desired data) from the old computer to the new computer.

I found an old iPod classic of mine that is synced to a computer that is long gone. I want to get the music and photos from this old iPod onto my new computer. Every time I hook the iPod up to my new computer it wants to delete what is on the iPod and replace with the contents of the iTunes that is currently on the new computer. I don't want to do that. I want to keep what is on the old iPod and transfer it to iTunes. Any help? Thanks!

i bought a ipod touch from a coworker and it wont sync up with my pc. i have reloaded itunes 5 times, checked my security which is allowing it through and had the ipod and sync cable checked at a local store. i think it has somthing to do with vista operating system, the ipod does not show up in devices and it continues to beep when it is plugged into the usb. this is my first ipod and so far am very frustrated .

im having trouble with syncing my ipod touch with my itunes library that i keep on a external hardrive. when i plug up my external hardrive that has all my songs on it, it doesn't sync to my ipod correctly. i have to copy and paste the songs to my ipod device when its connected. i dont want all the songs on there and i want to be able to manually control whats on my ipod. and id like to take some songs off of the ipod also but i want them still in my itunes library though. i usually check the songs i want on the ipod but it isnt working that way maybe because its a external hardrive?? i never had a problem with past ipods with my library on itunes but i ran out of space on my computer and had to transfer all of the songs to my external hardrive. please someone help me!! i thought it would be simple! but it isnt the case! i plug up my hardrive then my ipod, i press sync and nothing gets transfered unless i copy and paste them to the ipod. even though it says ipod syncing in progress! this is really confusing! please help me!! sorry if this is jumbled up and confusing..
Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.

i have iphone 4 and it doesnt update with my itunes. i'm runing 4.2.1(8C148) with baseband 03.10.01. whenever i update it, it says "the iphone could not update. this device is not eligible for the requested build". i dont know what this mean? can anyone help me??

I have had the same problem as you, and have spent the past 2 days figuring it out. I have been on the phone with AppleCare 3 times, and been to the Apple Store once as well. I ended up reinstalling iTunes completely, creating a new Administrator account on my Mac, and getting a brand new iPhone 4. None of these fixed the problem. I did figure it out, and hopefully this helps you as well:

I have a Mac, and I skipped everything except for the Terminal instructions.
I did the Terminal command, added # and a space in front of the only line it showed that had apple.com in it, then saved and exited. My update worked perfectly immediately after I completed those steps. Again, I hope this helps you as well! -

The 5 authorizations does not apply to ipods, ONLY computers.
If you have authorized 5 COMPUTERS, then you would need to deauthorize all, then authorize the active copmputers.

How can I get the music I bought on my computer sync on my ipod ?

I have a problem since yesterday. I have an iPod Touch 5 since christmas 2012.
I bought yesterday 2 full albums from iTunes on my computer, when i try to sync it nothing happens. Everything is synced (apps, other music for my computer, not bought on iTunes...) exept these 2 albums. Even the present of the day from iTunes (the 2 songs from justin timberlake...) have been synced without problems.
When i open on my iPod the iTunes Store, i can see all the songs, but there's an error in the loading of them : i select load on every song, but it stops immediately with an error message.
I tried to shut off my iPod and put it on again, nothing changed.
On my computer, i tried to put the songs in a list so that i can find them in my selection of lists, but when i sync it on my iPod, the list appears but empty.
My iPod is 5th generation, with the lattest update, and my iTunes too.
If you have any solution, i'll be very, very glad.
Sorry about my English, i tried my best to be clear, i' can explain it in french if it's better for you to understand.

Hi there , I'd be very happy if someone out there could guve me a hand so here it goes... a few days ago , I was on my mac os Lion and then there was a sistem update , as usual , I accepted the sistem update and restarted my computer .... somehow the computer crashed in the midle of the installation and It wouldn't boot anymore , so I entered the Command + ( S or R , I don't remember right now ) and Formated the sistem ( It was the only way out ) . Now that everything was erased , I want so sinc my iphone with my "new" iTunes , but it has nothing , can I do a reverse sync ? Is there any way to recover ONLY the itunes from my backup external Hd ?

You should be able to sync your 3GS to your computer and make a backup. Then connect your iPhone 4S and restore from a backup. This should effectively move all your data to your new device. Report back if you have any problems.

Hi, I have just tried to sync my iphone with my computer. I must have clicked the wrong thing, now all the songs i purchased through my phone from itunes were replaced with the itunes that was on my computer, which is nothing. Any ideas on how can i get them back onto my phone or computer? I can see them in the itunes store under purchases, but there are no options for me to download them again.

when i got the new computer i had to downlaod a new itunes library. on my backup hard drive is the old itunes library but it wont let me open it . how can i get my old music on the new itunes??
