Please download, install and run Etrecheck.
Etrecheck was developed as a simple Mac diagnostic tool by a regular Apple Support forum user and contributor named Etresoft.
Etrecheck is a small, unobstrusive app that compiles a snapshot of your entire Mac hardware system and installed software.

Is ichat on an older machine compatible with Mavericks Messages video chatting? Is there something I can do to video chat with someone who has ichat on an older machine? They aren't going to upgrade so am I stuck with Skype? We really liked ichat.
Yes, I can video chat with someone on Skype. I only ichat with my younger sister and she doesn't ichat with anyone else. I don't have anyone else to try out the video chatting with in Messages. She's not tech savy and doesn't feel comfortable doing anything to her program. A friend may try to get her up and running on Skype, we just liked chatting with the Mac programs.

I have a 4 yr. old iMac. I recently got a trojan on it that sent out emails to my address book. I got Norton Internet Security for Mac, and now my Mac is running slow, with way too many spinning beach balls of death. Was it a mistake to install Norton?

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox. -
Install Maverick and now When I turn off my mac air, takes 2 minutes. Why? As I can solve?
Hi Linda,
Unplugging it from AC power will drain the PRAM Battery in short order, thereby losing setting, like Monitor resolution.
You can test the Pram Battery by disconnecting from the Internet so Date/Time doesn't update before you see it, shutdown, unplug AC for a bit, startup & check Time.
In Sys Pefs>Displays, can you set the resolution? -
I've just installed Maverick and now can't open iphoto. I have 9.2.1 currently installed. Please help - am terrified I've lost my photos as they weren't all backed up.
Pogs78,
first things first — buy an external drive to use as a Time Machine backup destination and make a back up. That way, you won’t lose anything which is currently on your MacBook Pro. -
Hi there, hoping for help pls. I just installed mavericks and now garageband old version won't start because the BFD folder is invalid.
Click Software Update from your Apple menu drop down menu.
If there's nothing available from Software Update, you may need to purchaase the newest GB version 10.0.2 from the App Store. -
I just updated to Maverick and now my .mac mail account is not receiving any incoming mail. Please help!
Try going to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/iCloud/Advanced and setting Authentication to Apple Token.

I tried to install maverick and now my keyboard keys F10,F11, 7,8,9 on the number pad don't work on my iMac. How do I resolve this?
It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

You have had 2 experienced users tell you the HD may be failing, looking at your latest report this confirms the suspicion. Take the machine to either an Apple Store or AASP and have it professionally diagnosed. -
My mac is running very slow ,how do i fix it
my apple mac is running very slow and always frezzes and says kill pages, i am yousing virgin broadband, i tryed that mac keeper and it ran a scan and said it was very slow and wanted £89 to fix it ,is there ant other way to fix this problem ?
MacKeeper IS one of your problems and should not be installed.
Lots of things to ask but you want an answer without first providing enough details to go on.
RAM
Disk drives and free space
Mac model
Whether you are running 10.6.8 or actually later
Safe Boot and other maintenance, like Disk Utility in Recovery Mode or from another hard drive
Clone the system and backup data
Move all the user data to another disk drive and free up boot drive
What apps other than Pages which is normally not an issue (there is a forum for Pages)
What you are trying to open or do in Pages and if the file or preferences are the issue. -
My mac is running very slow. what can i do to find out what's wrong?
Hi! My mac is running very slow! What can I do to check what's wrong?
How much RAM is installed?
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of "crapware" like so called hard drive "cleaning" apps? -
Mac is running very slow rainbow wheel is popping up all the time
mac is running very slow rainbow wheel is popping up all the time
This happened to my iMac a few months ago. Back-up your data then RUN, don't walk to your local Apple repair store, your internal hard drive is failing. They were not able to retrieve any data from the original hard drive; the fix was a new hard drive. I was told the hard drives are made to last 2-5 years. Mine was about 3 years. Good luck!

I have recently installed Mavericks on my desk top and since then I have been unable to switch off my computer without crashing it. I work with two screen and now I seem to have the menu bar on the second screen as well which I did not have before. Can you please help me?
Dr Bettina, I had similar problems with Mavericks. I installed it on a Mini and a 13" MacBook Pro. I can't speak to your disdplay issues, but I can confirm the inability to logout, shut down, or restarft without a forced, power button shut down. I can also report frequent System Prefs freezes and finder issues, like folder contents taking half a minuite or more to render, or not appearing at all. And while a few Adobe CC apps actually ran faster, InDesign ran like molasses uphill in Decemner.
I tried uninstalling or disabling numerous 3rd party apps and pref panes. I unplugged everything but the keyboard, ran DiskWarrier, repaired permissions, did fsck -f, trashed various preference files, reinstalled the OS... You name it, and I tried it — short of a potion using eye of newt.
After two days of totally hosed productivity, I restored OS 10.8.5 on the Mini so I could actually get some work done. However, I've decided to leave Mavericks on the MBP as a sort of crash dummy, and will install and thoroughly test all updates until stability has been achieved. Then — and only then — will I upgrade the Mini to Mavericks, even if it means waiting 'til a .2 or even .3 update.
Good luck to you...
