Thank you Terence for your help. I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive. so i felt sort of ok. but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted. it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it. my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this. i have 10 years of photos and videos. so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup. i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups. i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all! do you know why that is? all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful. thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash. especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed. any answers you have would be great. thank you.

All new MacBooks Air come with OS X Mountain Lion, as it's the only supported version in Mid 2013 MacBooks Air. Mid 2012 MacBooks Air come with Lion or Mountain Lion, depending on when they were manufactured.

The Mid 2013 MacBook Air uses a special OS X Mountain Lion version which is different than the version available at the Mac App Store. That's the reason why you see the price at the Mac App Store, but you already have Mountain Lion. If you try to purchase Mountain Lion, the App Store will tell you that it's not compatible with your MacBook Air. It should. To check click the Apple logo in the menu bar (top left) and select "About This Mac"
If the OS X version shows 10.8 then you have Mountain Lion.
If you don't have the Mac yet then the new one you buy will have Mountain Lion on it. -

Need some advice
I'm currently using snow leopard, and it seems that there's no graphic driver updates for a really long time.
Snow Leopard is no longer being updated, 10.6.8, was the last update. So, a "really long time," will be forever.
Yes, ML has graphic driver updates, but since there is no way to guess whether it impacts your unmentioned hardware, there is no way your question can be answered. -

The apple store is so unhelpful. I have an iMac computer operating on Mac OSX 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion operating system so I can work with the iCloud on my computer and download my emails. I can't seem to purchase this on-line as it keeps telling me to go to the app store. I haven't got the app store on my computer as I am told I need iCloud for which I need the new operating system, which I can't download or purchase as I am sent back to an instruction telling mee to go to the app store icon.
How difficult can it be to simply purchase the software on-line have it shipped to you so you can install it, in the event it cannot be downloaded as it appears it can't be based on my curent operating systems being Mac OSX 10.5.8.Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'

I hv lost my icon for iphoto on my Imac Mac OSX10.5.8. I still hv my pics but can no longer creat albums and events. If I upgrade to the latest Mountain Lion, will my pics go into the new iphoto?
From where did you lose the iPhoto icon? From the Dock? If so, then it's still in your Applications folder. Find it there then drag the icon back into the Dock. If it's no longer in Applications perhaps you've moved or renamed it. Use Spotlight to search for "iphoto."
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will not affect your iPhoto Library unless you erase the hard drive first. Be sure you backup before any system upgrade.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.

My MBP got screwy since Maverick install. I made a bootable copy on my machine of
Mountain Lion (or so I thought) with Diskmaker X. After moving all important files to an external drive,
I cleared HDD, and rebooted from thumb drive, with no success! This article gave me hope:

Thanks :)If so, the first thing I would do is to back up your data on the ill mac. I assume both macs have firewire port, get a cable and connect both macs via this cable. Then restart your ill mac by pressing T key after chime, it will become a simple external disk you should see on the desktop of your healthy mac. Back up your data.
Now, with this action accomplished, you may go on. BArney - 15E is optimistic and says how to restart in recovery mode—this may be possible if installation was complete for recovery partition (I doubt this, but I may be wrong).
Otherwise, I would reinstall from the scratch. If after connecting your ill mac via FW, you may see the disk in good order, you should also see the Lion installer within Applications folder. Copy it unto an external disk or flash disk and keep it safe, you will need it again. -

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

Brand new Mac, had to erase drive through disk utility as time machine back up failed on initial setup, USB cable popped out Now can only access disk utility as won't load to log in screen. The only has the option in disc utility is to re-install Mountain Lion which my Mac won't allow or loading another time machine back up but after an hour of it processing, that didn't resolve the issue either! The time machine back up is the latest back up of my Mac Book Pro which was using OS X Maverix. I'm guessing I'm going to have to take my Mac to the store but that would be a hassle so does anyone have any ideas?
Follow this guide using another Mac.
Insert your newly created Mavericks USB into you Mac, press the power button and then hold down 'option,' until it gives you an option to boot from the USB. You will then be able to erase the internal disk with Disk Utility and reinstall Mavericks straight after.
After that you should be able to use Migration Assistant to restore your applications and user data. -

Correct. Applications designed to run on the old PPC Macs (which Apple stopped making in 2005) cannot run on Mountain Lion.

I'm trying to open files which are telling me to instal Adobe Reader. Which I did but the agreement which needs to be ticked off so this reader can open doesn't come up. Please could you be of some assistance.
Select one of the files, Choose GetInfo from the Finder's File menu, look for the field named "Open With", and choose Preview from the adjacent menu. Accept that ALL such files will Open with Preview, and your major problems should be solved.
Occasionally, a particularly complex .pdf file or one that needs to be modified and re-written will not work quite right with Preview, but such issues are rare.
