Re: I recently re-installed Lion due to a kernel panic prob. A day after reinstallation, twice in a row it happened, but it stopped.
I want to know if this happened just because it was recently installed, or is the kernel panic still bugging my computer? The kernel panics were 3rd party extensions. If the extension is still connected to me, how do I remove it? Again, It only happened twice since reinstallation.
The panic did not have a thing to do with reinstalling Lion or not. There is some other cause. Post your recent panic log.

Unable to install Lion due to unable to unmount disk
Need urgent help here.
I want to reformat my hard disk due to some reasons, and I tried pressing on Command-C while it boots up. Then I got into the Mac OS X Utilites, and then click on Disk Utility to erase my hard disk. Inside I have 1 hard disk named as Hitachi with a partition named Macintosh. I tried to erase the Hitachi one, but it says it couldn't unmount disk.
So I made a call to Apple and they told me to do a secured erase on my Macintosh HD Partition. Did that, and tried to install Lion to it, but I got this error.
"Could not find installation information for this machine. Contact AppleCare".
Anyone could help on this problem?
Coz I would need to wait for another 12 hrs or so before I could call to Apple.
Please help!!But spotlight find it isn't it?

Trouble installing Lion due to partition error
Hi everyone,
So I don't know a whole lot about computers, and I have had my macbook for a couple years now and decided to install Lion last night. After I downloaded it, I got an error message saying that it could not be installed and I needed to change my HD's partitioning to GUID. The internal HD I have in my mac now I installed myself, and I must have accidentally clicked apple partition map instead of GUID when I installed it, which didn't cause a problem until now (my macbook has an intel processor). So i backed up everything on my HD to an external HD using carbon copy, hoping that I would just be able to reformat/partition my internal HD correctly and move everything back onto it from my external drive. I booted my computer using the external drive, and tried to repartition using disk utility, but I keep getting a partition error message that tells me the disk cannot be unmounted. I got the same message when I tried just erasing the disk first. Anyone know how I can fix this?
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!!Try starting from your Snow Leopard Install disc.

Need to re-install Lion due to disk errors. What should I back up first?
I am very new to Mac. I installed Lion about a month ago, and I have had periodic hangups ever since. Today, I did a disk verify, it found errors, so I attempted to repair from boot. That failed too, and message was that I need to remove any data I can and reinstall. Sigh.
I have a Time Machine backup from about a week ago. Should I run a new backup, or will that just capture the error that is requiring the reformat?
Should I just capture the files from the past week, and restore from the TM from a week ago?
Anyone have any advice? I haven't been on Mac long enought to even know what files I need to make sure I move across before doing a clean install.I appreciate the help, but I am not quite following you. You're saying, instead of doing a fresh TM backup, run CCC to a different drive. Then do what's necessary to get the Mac drive fixed, and reload everything form the CCC disk?
Why not just do that with TM? I'm sorry to sound obtuse, but this stuff is new to me. I really appreciate the help.
I currently have access to everything, I just want to do what's needed before that changes, if the HD is failing.
Thanks! -
OS/X Lion 10.7.2 kernel panic - freezes & crashes continue
Just using Safari (with a remote session in the background), I had a full kernel panic & crash - the one where it tells you that you have to reset the power. I've a 24" iMac ( early 2009 ) NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 512 MB Lion 10.7.2. So it's not just your new system, it's a general Lion problem - it started with 10.7.0, lasted through 10.7.1 and is still with me.
Yesterday I did a safe boot in the hope that resetting everything that way would help (I had about three freezes and crashes yesterday), but no joy.
These are the events in the minute or so before the crash:

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.4Thank you - that all makes sense. It is, indeed, exactly what I did when I upgraded.
I'm also writing this on the machine that crashed a few minutes ago (I posted the crash in another thread). I got back with a 'safe boot' - as I have done a few times before.
I've also de-installed little snitch (and then done a safe-boot & then re-boot ) since that seemed involved. I de-installed Adobe flash, since that seemed to be a problem - I then re-installed the later, apparently fixed, flash. The most recent crashes don't seeme to have a problem with flash any more.
I've posted the various ( generally different ) crashes. I also posted a summary of the similar lines that turn up in most of the crashes.
Unfortuantely, I'm actually trying to use the machine to meet some urgent deadlines and all this is not making it at all easy.
I had had great hopes for 10.7.2 - I thought that the crashes must be pretty common, so would have a common aetiology. There do seem to have been some fundamental changes to the file sytem and to the video interface (that seems to cause problems to brand new iMacs as well as to my 2009 iMac). -
MacbookPro Lion 10.7.5 - My macbook pro panics when i hit any key after an idle time.
I have disabled Sleep, I am usually connected to an external monitor and external keyboard.
I have already tried (Cmd+Option+R+P) and re-installing OS in safe mode with Apple Support, but, the problem persists.

Kernel panics on 12" PB after re-install !! why ??
hi all,
i sold my old 12" PB to a friend a couple of months ago. i re-installed everything from scratch, starting at 10.4.6 and combo-upgrading to 10.4.10.
he's not a heavy duty user and, besides for Office for the Mac (which he bought), there's really nothing on his computer besides for Mac stuff.
he's unfortunately been having a lot of kernel panics. we ran the usual repair permissions, UNIX maintenance scripts, single user mode boot, fsck etc..and it worked for a little bit but nothing more.
we even re-installed from scratch, stayed in 10.4.6 for a while AND removed the airport card (having read a few of the threads that had problems with it) but, apparently, it's happening again.
i'm going to take the unit home to see if it happens to me, but does anyone have any ideas ?
i had this machine for 4.5 years, after about 2 i upgraded RAM and the HD, both of which worked fine (for over 2 years !) until i sold it..
help ! (besides for RAM going bad, i really don't know what the problem could be).
thanks in advance for any advice,
BennyHi Benny!
"i re-installed everything from scratch, starting at 10.4.6 and combo-upgrading to 10.4.10."
Was Tiger 10.4.6 the original version of OS X, installed on the PowerBook?
To reinstall the system, did you use the original system discs for the PowerBook, or a Full Retail Version, of the Tiger Install DVD?
If not, and you used a Model Specific, install disc, that could be a possible source of the problem.

OSX Lion 10.7.3 kernel panic & Recovery HD
Hello,
Recently I have updated to 10.7.3. My system became unstable and kernel panic appears often. I wanted owngrade to 10.7.2 but no chance to. So I bought an external HD and used as time machine for backup. After that I started as Recovery HD and reinstalled OSX (Still 10.7.3), At least today I did not get any kernel panic but Time machine is saving new 14Gb that I did not downloaded. Somehow, I guess it is what Recovery HD did.
I wont those extra 14Gb since I don't know where they are and what are they for.
I beg information about what happened
Thanks in advance.
Javi.I hope this help you then:
I get more kernel panics when USB are connected at turn on the computer. Actually, I live without EyeTV and kernel panic comes every 4-10hours instead 1-3h when eyeTV plugged. No idea what the logs are saying because nothing is understable for me.
Bluetooth, Wifi, ethernet are enabled, few thirdyparty apps too.
I believe USB is doing something to this issue.
Besides that, after using recovery HD and download those unknow 14Gb I left the machine in idle for every night with EyeTV and time machine drive plugged on and no kernel panic yet -
After installing Lion, my iMac Intel is very slow and need to login twice.
Tried downioading another copy of Lion to reinstall, but I get an error message stating it cannot continue. Has anyone had this problem before? Thanks.
hopefully this is what you need:

Hello,
i have recently installed the OSX Lion and i keep getting these errors which shut down my computer, by shutdown i mean the screen goes completely black and if there is music playing the sound starts glitching like its stuck, i have noticed however that this happens when i use mission control and i have many windows open, last time it happened i had microsoft word, microsoft powerpoint, itunes, google chrome and mail open, i used mission control and it crashed.
the report is as follows:

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74)Might try Cinebench to test. I doubt you'll get too much, unless it fails completely.
You could try a clean install, if you have a good backup and see if the problem persists.
But don't migrate anything until you're sure the issue is gone. -
OSX Mountain Lion Upgrade causes Restart, Kernel Panics
Have tried resetting PRAM, repairing permissions, and Disk Repair. This is happening after an upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. A fresh install is not a possibility. of course, I have a time machine backup and can go back to snow leopard if I have to. I cannot do a clean Mountain Lion install although I am planning to do one just to see if this is a hardware issue and not a software issue, and then revert back with time machine. I'm not having any luck discerning what caused the actual reboot.
There is no particular action I take that causes this. It happens randomly. It has been happening since the upgrade today. I installed XCode4 on the computer from the app store, which did not upgrade but instead put another copy of Xcode. There was a thread I researched where someone suggests removing an AppleProfileFamily file from Sytem/Library, but I do not have that file on my system.
Here's the log:

After much more research, I found that people with my video card have been having this issue since OSX Lion and Apple still hasn't fixed it. This is incredibly disappointing. I will be contacting Apple for a refund on Mountain Lion soon if I can't find updated drivers.
Thanks very much for your help. -
I use windows Xp and FF 6.0 does not load quickly...it takes 5-8...sometimes 15 minuets before it loads.
Here 5.0 if that is what you want.
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/5.0/win32/en-US/
But I don't what 5 is going to do for you if your having trouble with 6.
Did you try reading threw [[Basic Troubleshooting]], you should try to see what your issue are rather than go backwards. -

Have 2006 24 inch imac running 10.75 Lion os having repeat kernel panic attacks 2006 imac
I have a 2006 imac (24 Inch) using Lin 10.75 OS. It keeps having kernel panic attacks and needs to shut down. It is also very unstable and freezes maore and more often. Any suggestions?
Nada. And yes it displays the correct resolution of 1920 x 1200. And yeah pretty much what I'd call cosmetic too but it just bothers me after a while. Yep I'm one of those people lol my computer runs perfectly fine but I still find something wrong but it's just wrong. System Profiler is not supposed to be incorrect. But just seeing if I'm the only one with this problem or if just the 7600 GT iMacs have this error.
