I recently had problems with printing on my HP printer and discovered it was to do with PSE
After reinstalling PSE on my Mac I could now print photos again but all my photo files were lost. I have reinstalled PSE in the past but not had this problem.
Can anyone help?

It may be that application is not opening the default catalog that was set before uninstalling the application . Please search for pse<version>db file e.g. if you are using pse10 than .pse10db file. There may be multiple files. Please look for folder name, folder name would be same as catalog name. Once the particular folder has been found go to File->catalog, click on Browse button, browse to folder location and select it open catalog.

JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note: Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version.

Thank you Terence. I did try that and found it do-able, however, it's too time consuming. The easier fix was to remove 'Photos' from the task bar, go to finder and repin iPhoto and use it. I am rather amazed that Apple decided to configure this program, in such a way. No plugins, no right click to edit in another program?? I guess I fail to see the big picture or big PHOTOS ?

Reinstalling Photoshop Elements after computer crash

Here is what happened. My computer stopped working. Basically if continually froze up after about 2-3 minutes of running, any time I start it up. I took it to my IT guys at work, and even they had trouble. They couldn't back up the hard drive because there were 3 bad sectors.
There inlies the problem... Nothing could be backed up. Including photoshop. So the hard drive essentially started from scratch. They had everything they could get in a "windows.old" folder in the hard drive, which eventually was cleared because it was all useless. And Photoshop said there was a problem with the licence.
Basically, how do I, or can I, regain Photoshop without the disk and activation code? Is this something Adobe will help me with?
The program in question is Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.

Printer problem and where Apple have gone wrong....

Using a Canon ip100 printer with Lion now gives an error message every time I want to print - says printer is not connected. Have to disconnect usb then reconect and it works.
Also occasionally getting error message telling me I've just shut my computer down and it will restart - when I haven't!
I'm not used to things not working properly on my Mac!
I love progress, but am really disappointed with Apple with this release. It has lost it's clean simplicity, it's lost it's intuiative use, it's got bugs, amateurish graphics, childlike icons and feels generally dumbed down. - perhaps Macs are no longer for the discerning creative user, with Apple now prefering the profits associated with appealing to the masses. Despite decades of excellence under Steve Job's leadership is possible for even Apple to get it wrong - just like Microsoft did with Vista! A pity - I don't feel I can enthuse about my Mac anymore.....

With regards to the iP100, check that you are using v10.42.3.0 of the printer driver. This information can be found in System Information > Hardware > Printers.

C6150 Photosmart Print problem with photo files only

Problem description : Attempting to print photos with Adobe Photoshop or MS Office Picture Manager fails. The job appears in the print queue, the size gets to 48 bytes but no further. Attempting to delete the job from the print queue also fails. The Status changes from Printing to Deleting but it fails to delete until the PC is restarted.
I have experienced this problem occasionally over the past several months but lately it appears to be permanent. I believe the problem is with the Windows Vista software because all other files (e.g. MS Word, Adobe PDF, MS IE, emails, etc.) all print normally without any problem. Also, the fact that the job in the print queue acknowledges the Delete command but fails to execute it arouses suspicion.
So, although this is probably not an HP problem, maybe someone reading this might have some knowledge of how I can resolve it and be able to print my photos once more. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestions. I ran the "sfc/scannow" ploy. When it finished it said the Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS Log. It gave a path to the CBS log, but when I tried to follow it it came back "Access is denied". Ain't Window wonderful! It has been around all these years, made all that money, but still becomes corrupt no matter how much you spend on anti-virus software and maintenance routines, and then it denies access to what is corrupted, and cannot be uncorrupted without spending money to get the problem fixed. If computers were not so darned essential I wouldn't have one. Next one won't be a Windows PC!
No, I haven't tried re-installing anything because I believe the only thing that might solve my problem is to reinstall Windows. As an Intermediate, that is too scary. I will carry on as best I can, finding fewer and fewer of the resources I paid for usable, until I give up and bite the bullet and see if life is any better if I purchase an iMac. Fingers crossed!

Reinstall Photoshop Elements 6 after Hard Disk upgrade on MacBook

I am trying to reinstall Photoshop elements after upgrading HD on macbook 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. OS 10.5.8, 2.5 Gb Ram using SuperDuper 2.1. Tried running the transferred copy of P.E.6 --> hangs while trying to initialize menus
After searching forums for suggestions I have tried the following
1 use adobe installer to uninstall old copy of P.E.6
2 removed /library/Application Support/Adobe~
3. Use Apple Disk Utilities to repair permissions
Reinstalled new copy of P.E.6 (downloaded from Adobe.Com)
On starting P.E.6 - goes thru first set of initialization OK
then hangs while trying to initialize menus (spinning beachball)
Also installed on a Power Mac Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 (P.E.6 has not been installed before)
- P.E.6 works on this machine
any help greatly appreciated

The problem was probably caused by migrating pse 8 as adobe applications can never be migrated, they need to be reinstalled from the original disk or download or they won't work right.
If you look in Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 is there an uninstaller for pse 8?
If so, try using it and then reinstall pse 8 from your original disk.
If that doesn't work, then you can try this, but you might end up having to run the adobe creative cloud cleaner and then manually delete all the adobe stuff on your computer and starting over with a fresh install of pse 8.

If you purchased from Adobe you might find a link in the 'My Orders' section of your 'My Adobe' account.
If not, in the comments section on http://prodesigntools.com/direct-download-links-for-lightroom-3-and-photoshop-elements-8.h tml/comment-page-1 there is a link to download PSE7. Just below the link to the file is a link to the download instructions. You must follow these EXACTLY or you will likely get a 404 error, an authorization error, or download v12 instead. Note that you will need to supply a valid serial number when installing the product. If you've lost that, but did register it, then you should be able to find it in the 'My Products' section of 'My Adobe'.

Borders presets not installed after reinstalling Photoshop Elements 9

I recently upgraded my computer and after reinstalling Photoshop Elements 9 I noticed that the introduction screen was dated. While this was ok to live with I now have noticed that the 'borders' preset in effects and contents has not been installed - this is a nuisance. I have downloaded the 9.0.3 update but still do not have the borders presets.
Suggestions for how to download these presets would be most appreciated.
