I recently updated my friends iphone to ios5 and he lost everything. How can I get it back?
My friend's computer is too slow for him to update his iphone himself and asked me to do it. I did it and once ios5 downloaded it couldnt find his back up and he lost it all. I was hoping there is something i can do to help him. There has to be some way to get it back that i can understand without using back up.
This is a perfect example of why to only do updates on the computer that the device is synced with.
Plug the device into the computer it normally syncs with and restore it.
If you really wanted to help, you would have bought him a newer comptuer.

Restore it from the computer you normally sync with. All of your contacts should be in whatever contact application you were syncing them to. Music and apps should be in the iTunes library on your computer.

Try going to file-devices-restore from backup, if you dont have a backup then you may redownload past purchases (movies, music, apps, etc) from their respective stores by visiting "purchased" section.

Photo stream only keeps photos for 30 days. After that, they are removed from photo stream but will remain on your device. However, if you update your phone then reconnect to your photo stream, you will only get the photos from the last 30 days as the others are no longer there.

Restore your media from the backup of the computer created prior to restoring the computer.
You did create a backup, correct? Not doing so would be extremely unintelligent.

The voicemail system used for the iPhone is different from the voicemail system used on the rest of the Verizon Wireless network. When you activate the iPhone, you lose your saved voicemails from the other system. When you activate a non-iphone, you lose any saved voicemails from the iPhone voicemail system too.

Updated my iPhone 3gs yesterday to ios 6 (first time ever). Backed up my content to icloud, but it wouldn't quit. Remained on that screen for HOURS. Finally disconnected phone from computer. Still would not go away--just the "circle of death." Restarted phone and lost EVERYTHING (pics, contacts and apps). Can I get them back? Are they somewhere out in cyberspace or lost for good?
You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
Reinstalled the latest itunes.
Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one. -
I have been syncing songs from my wife's account. Now when I go to update apps it lists her apple id instead of mine to do the update. How do I get it back to my apple id? Thank you.
Were the apps downloaded from her ID or yours? If they were from hers, only her ID can be used to update them. If they were from yours, you can change the ID under Settings > Store > Apple ID > Sign Out, then sign in with yours.

I plug my IPhone 4G to my USB which was plug into my computer I click update before I back my phone up and lost all information that was plug into my phone.
Music, Apps, text message, Photos, Contact List, Notes Pad information. How do I get these Items back or can I?If you backed up the device, you should be able to recover it from the backup unless you somehow deleted the backup. See if it isn't recognized by iTunes, then restore it from backup.

I have an iphone 4 and I have just upgraded to iOS 5. Unlike some people, I have not really had any problems but I am really annoyed with the new music feature. I have lost my progress bar abd song repeat function. Does anyone know how I can get them back?

For future reference, if your iPhone misbehaves, always try a Reset. It's painless and often solves the problem.
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).

Computer Crashed. iTunes Library Lost. How can I get it back from my iPhone
I have 522 Purchased songs on my iPhone. My computer recently crashed and we got a new hard drive, so all settings were refreshed on my computer. I plugged in my iPhone to transfer my Purchases back to my iTunes library. Again, 522 Purchased songs, and only 303 of them copied. I tried transferring them again, however it didn't transfer anything. Is there anyway I can get the songs back from my iPhone?
Note: My iPhone is on automatic update, and if I try switching it to manual I'm prompted that in order for the change to occur I must Erase and Sync my iPhone which would completely defeat the purpose of my trying to get my music back on my computer so I can put new songs on my iPhone as well.Purchased songs should be able to be copied back, but if not, maybe you need use other tools. My phone restored and lost all my most recent photos and other information. How can I get it back !?
Yesterday my phone restored itself. Using a backup that was made a month ago I had no way to stop other than to unplug the phone. Which wipped the phone completely and then when I plugged it back in all it would do is use the old backup again. So I have lost all the photos, messages and everything else that I have made in the last month. Which as this is a business phone is not exactly helpful. Is there any way to get all these things back or are they gone forever?? Thanks for the help
What do you mean it "restored itself". It can't do that. User interaction is required to initiate that.
Did you not have a recent backup of it? If not, then the data is gone. -
