I recently updated to the latest Mac OS, and have lost the capacity to create PDFs from my HP scanner. Any suggestions?
I recently updated to the latest Mac OS, and in the process I seem to have lost the capacity to create PDFs from my HP scanner.
With each prior OS, I could scan and immediately save any scanned file in PDF format. Now it is not allowed, and creates a file
that has nothing but noise, even though the scan software seems to show that each scan is captured correctly (in the scan window,
before I ask it to save the file). When trying to save to PDF, I get a message that tells me that this is a read-only file, which I don't
quite understand, since the same scanning / saving process always created a PDF in the past.

Thanks very much for the response. I checked for new HP software, and learned there is no new version. I also noted when reading about the new OS 10.9 that all driver software is now part of the MAC OS and no longer supplied by the vendor of the printer / scanner. I suspected this is where the trouble is located.....but I did not know how to ascertain what could be done to restore my PDF creation capabilities. Just bought the iPhone 6 a few days ago, lost my ringtones, rebought them because I didn't want the hassle of being on hold like I was. They disappeared after 24 hours! Re purchased them thinking it was a glitch, nope, gone again! Apple tech said they are having problems with the 8.1.1 update and you can call to get reimbursed. They are working on a new update and hope that will fix the problem but they can't guarantee it! What??? They don't know when the update will be available and if it will fix the problem. But they said the ringtones should hopefully reappear on the phones......Get it together Apple!!

Have just updated to iBook Author 1.01 and have lost my icons
Have just updated to iBook Author 1.01 and have lost my icons in the left hand column, which show each page of the book. They are now all blank white icons instead of miniature images of the larger pages. Also have lost some images within the pages of text. Has anyone got a fix for this?
I've just started having this problem too. For a little while my page thumbnails were half there- only recent pages still had them. Now they're all gone.
All my images other than the ones I just added are also gone
They simply appear as grey boxes with an X and ? in the middle.
Not sure if this is related- but I recently moved my system from an external boot drive to the internal. All other apps seem to be working fine.
This is very disturbing because it would be tons of work to put all the images back. -
I have just updated to i0S on my iphone and have lost all my Contacts- when I try and sync from my computer it says that my Contacts have been disabled - help!
Have you tried the usual cures such as resetting your phone or backing it up then restoring from the backup?

How to not include the path when creating pdf from many html files?
I use "Merge File into a Single File" to create a pdf file from many html files. However, the generated pdf file have the path information of the html files. I'm wondering how to generate a pdf without the path information.
Go to CREATE > Create PDF from Web Page > Click the SETTINGS button on the dialog that follows > Uncheck "Place headers and footers on new page".

I recently updated my friends iphone to ios5 and he lost everything. How can I get it back?
My friend's computer is too slow for him to update his iphone himself and asked me to do it. I did it and once ios5 downloaded it couldnt find his back up and he lost it all. I was hoping there is something i can do to help him. There has to be some way to get it back that i can understand without using back up.
This is a perfect example of why to only do updates on the computer that the device is synced with.
Plug the device into the computer it normally syncs with and restore it.
If you really wanted to help, you would have bought him a newer comptuer. -

If you've been using your phone as recommended, you've been keeping your contacts safe on your computer in Outlook or Address Book, or safe with a cloud service like Google.
Your contacts should be there safe and sounds ready to synch back to your iPhone.
Not using your phone as recommended and only using your phone as the sole place for contacts? Well, you've just learned a hard lesson. They're gone. -
i have just updated to the latest ios 5 and have lost apps and their data, can i reverse the new update to get back what i had on my ipad?
There is no need to do that, I had the same problem pal! Just do this and all should be fine!
Delete one of the app's and re-install it, then for some reason everythign is restored to as it was!

I recently updated my iPhone to IOS 8 and it said I need the latest version of iTunes to sync and back up however my computer won't allow it what do I do !?? Anything helps!!!
If it's in recovery mode, the data is already gone. Why did you never back up your important data?

recently updated to the latest version of Itunes (11.1) and when i try to play music or tv shows, the sound lasts only for a second before going completely mute, anyone know how to fix this?

I just recently updated to the OS X soft wear and every time I go on iPhoto or iMessage my computer shuts down. This problem doesn't occur when I log into my laptop as a guest. I have a Mac book pro made in 2010.

I recently updated to the OSX 10.8.3 Operating Sistem. I am writing a book and now cannot open any word document I've created with the old system. Could not find a newer version of the Microsoft Word Processing Program. Is Pages the next thing? Can I recover my documents? How?
I'm in the same boat: new to OS X and Mac, and in the middle of a book. I switched because I heard about the the ease of using Mac, but so far, for me, it's been a nightmare. I bought 2011 Office Mac and hate everything about it, the most recent being the inability to open or cut or paste any of my original word files. I understand that this could have easily been done with earlier versions, but not Mountain Lion (which I learned is what OSX is.) Since I work with language, I am amazed at the assumptions of the Apple community. It helps to use common language and explain even the basics.
So all the helpful hints to use the latest version of Office Mac are to no avail. Now what? -
I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup. Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore? The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings. They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with. Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts. This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...? Any help here would be greatly apprecaited. I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.
You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup. If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup. You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone. However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

You need to upgrade the computer's OS. Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a PowerPC Mac, it can't sync that device.
If it's a Core Duo Mac, click here, install the DVD, and run Software Update.
If it's a Core 2 Duo or better Mac, upgrade it as if it was a Core Duo Mac, and once done, if desired, open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, go to the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004. If you upgrade the OS, back up the computer first.
Some device models require Mac OS X 10.7.5 to sync.
