I recently used 'force quit applications' to close something and after in the dock its normal icon was replaced with a pen and paper along with lots of my other applications. I can't open them either. How can i fix this??

In the finder window menu bar click GO and go to folder type ~/Library/Preferences hit go andscroll down and look for com.apple.dock.plist and drag it to the trash. Reboot, if it back to normal empty the trash. If no joy use the same path and find com.apple.dock.db drag that to the trash, reboot.
Alternatly you can click on GO while holding the option key and click on Library then preferences and look for the above file.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Some of the songs I bought from iTunes will not sync to my iPhone. They show up on my phone, but the letters look faed and I can't play them. How do I fix this? I tried restoring my iPhone and it didn't work.

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.
The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether. -

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
My movie I recently downloaded from itunes "Act of Valor" only works for a out 5 chapters, then it stops working. Other movies work on my iPod touch. How do I fix this issue? If I can't, can I get my money back?

I am intermittently having the same problem. I can send email, but once the Mail application is opened, it will only pull emails in from the server one time and then I have to "Force Quit" and restart the application to receive incoming mail again. I've tried restarting the computer. I've made sure I have all the system updates. I've checked for conflicts between applications and so far nothing fixes the problem. Once in a while, Mail starts functioning normally on its own, but in a few days it goes back to the same old problem. Has anyone figured out what if going on with this isse?

I just downloaded Google Chrome and use both Google Chrome and Firefox as my browsers. However, whenever I click on an email link, it opens up Chrome and I want it to open Firefox. How do I fix this?
Go into FF Preferences & set it to be your default browser. This way when you click on an email link in Chrome, FF will open.

My pictures are saying delivered when sent through iMessage but the person isn't actually getting them. How do I fix this?
My pictures send through iMessage only to certain people. And others the message is saying " delivered" but the person on the other end isn't getting any of my picture messages and sometimes regular iMessages with no pictures.I was sure this curse was an Android feature since I had it constantly with my Nexus phones for the last two years, but sure enough it affects iOS8 too. Turn off wireless and and your MMS will go out fine over cellular ever time (in my experience anyway). Ridiculous, right?

I tried getting the update for my new iphone and now it is asking me to activate it again but won't let me, how do I fix this? I had started using it for a few hours and tried getting the update and now it won't let me activate the phone. I also can't call the helpline because it won't let me leave this screen on the phone that says "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a couple of minutes." What it says on iTunes after I fill out the activation info is "There was a problem activating your iPhone. Please contact Verizon Wireless at 1-800-922-0204 to have this iPhone added to your account. Click Continue to be able to explore its features and the App Store." Please help this is driving me nuts!
