I regret "Trim comp to work area"..

I have some footages, one 20 seconds long,  and one 13 seconds long.
I make a new comp and use both of them.
Then I adjust the work area to 10 seconds, and invoke "Trim comp to work area". Later I want a larger work area, I want all the 13 secodsn of footage A, and perhaps all 20 seconds.
Ok, I have tried a lot before asking here in this forum, but the opposite of "Trim comp to work area" seems to be absent-. How do I set the work area to, let us say 20 seconds, so that I again get all of footage B and some of footage A?

I would argue, though, that your problem comes from your way of thinking. IMHO you're too keen on using AE as an extension/ replacement for an NLE here and there and then get stuck when features work differently...
I disagree. My point, if you read the topic title, is that I want to reverse an operation in the same easy way I initially did the operation. I want to be able to extend the work area again, just by dragging a slider, or something equally user friendly, with the same ease of operation. As it is now, by invoking "Trim comp to work area", I am stuck.
This has nothing to do with an NLE vs an effects application. If something can be done in one way (entering a number as Adolfo explains), it certainly can be done in a faster way. My profession is programmer, and I deal with these things all day long. I maintain that there should be an easier, and not the least faster, way to gain more headroom for the work area, than typing in a number. What if the number is wrong? I have to type it again. What I want, is to just drag a slider, and thereby reveal what's underneath. In this case, I want to drag a slider to see  more of my video clip, and stop dragging when I am satisfied and start to work. Typing a number.. hey..

  • How do I view my entire video after I do the whole "Trim Comp to Work Area" thing?

I've trimmed a video to the work area or something using the B and then N, then Right click, Trim Comp to Work Area, finished doing what I want to do.
My question is how do I zoom out to see the WHOLE video (outside the trimmed area) again so I can repeat for the next area?

If your original comp was 40 seconds and you set the work area from 10 seconds to 30 seconds and you trimmed your comp to work area your new comp starts as zero and ends at 20 seconds. The footage layers are all the same length but they are just outside the boundaries of the composition.
To get the comp back to it's original 40 seconds open the composition settings and change the length of the comp back to 40 seconds. Now the comp is long enough, but your layers have shifted because changing the duration of a composition just adds time to the end of a comp. To fix the problem you will have to select all layers and then drag them to the right until the in point of your layers that originally started at zero line up with the first frame of the composition. This is not difficult to do unless every layer in your composition originally had it's in point before the zero mark.
As Mylenium and Szalam said, you have a basic misunderstanding of the concept of a composition and the work area. I change the work area around to RAM preview different sections of the comp and I use the trim comp to work area to permanently change the length of the composition and change the in and out points for the rendered sequence. Most of the time, however, when I'm editing a section of my composition I usually set the Ram Preview to From Current Time. It's much faster to move the CTI to where I want to preview the animation and press Zero on the numeric keypad than to monkey around with the work area.

  • Accidentally hit the 'trim comp to work area'. Now I can't get my files back into comp timeline.

I'm using After Effects CC on my macpro. When going to add a shot to the render queue, I accidentally hit the 'trim comp to work area' and didn't notice what had happened until I went to go back to work on other shots. I tried to hit Control Z but it was too late it seemed and it wouldn't go back to how it was. i tried resetting the length of the comp and putting the files back, but no use. Tried making a new comp and copy and pasting all the files in the side panel of my orig comp, but nothing. Tried re-adding the same file from the project window and copying and pasting the effects keyframes from the orig shot to the new one but they didn't line up properly.
I still have all the files in the comp side panel but can't seem to get them back into the now extended timeline. I still have all the effects I've been doing for the past 3 weeks, but can't do anything to get them into a position where I can continue to manipulate them.
I've searched a bunch of forums and can't find this problem anywhere.
Have I lost all my work? Please help.

It appears that you've pushed those layers into negative time, which you can't view in the Timeline. To get the layers back into the Timeline view, you'll need to move the layers in time with keyboard shortcuts. I assume that you've got your layers arranged in an edit, and you want to preserve their relationships, so do the following:
    Select all of the layers.
Hold down Alt/Option+Shift and press Page Down until the layers are visible. This shortcut moves layers 10 frames later in time. Removing Shift moves them 1 frame at a time. Using Page Up instead of Page Down will move them earlier in time.
Another useful pair of shortcuts is [ and ], which set the in or out points of the select layer(s) to the current time. But you probably don't want to use those shortcuts in this case because you'll lose the time relationships of your edit.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding the nature of this feature but from reading the text in the manual I would come to expect

It works on layer markers and keyframes, but not comp markers. Furthermore, it will also not work, if index items have been scrolled out of view or are shy even if the property streams and their keyframes are otherwise visible. This has never been any different, but it's quite annoying.

  • Value not moved to work are of the internal table

    HI
I have one internal table declared with occurs 2500.
i am selecting the values from a z table into this internal table.
now i want to move the values in the table to another internal table for download.here except one field all the other fields are moving to the new internal table. When i debugged i could see the value in the internal table but its not getting moved to work area of that internal table (or the header line).
I could not see the value when i use itab[]-field in debugger mode instead when i use itab[1]-field i could see that field value.
    please do suggest.

There is no need to move your data from one internal table to another with fixed structure. All you need to do is take each row's components skipping the column you don't want to download and concatenate this to some string. Then append to string table and download it. Sample:
"let's say your column is on 3rd place in the table
    data l_row_string type string.
data lt_string_tab type table of string.
    Loop at itab assigning <wa>.
      do.
check sy-index ne 3. "skip this column
assign component sy-index of structure <wa> to <comp>.
        if sy-subrc = 0.
          CONCATENATE l_row_string <comp> INTO l_row_string SEPARATED BY cl_abap_char_utilities=>horizontal_tab.
        else.
          "no more component in row
          append l_row_string to lt_string_tab.
          clear l_row_string.
          exit.
        endif.
    enddo.
    endloop.
Now all you need is to downlaod your lt_string_tab as your text file (extension TXT).

  • How to make the CTI respond to the work area again?

    Hello,
i suddenly have a unusual problem (4 me). I  work on a project and i noticed today that the CTI dose not  act according to my work area when i RAM preview. After pressing 0 it just  goes after the end of the work area continuing to render
    . (green line)
And also it does not start to render at the  beginning of the work area.  It uses somehow the comp's lenght...
    Please advise.
    Thanks!
I attached a photo so you can see what is it about.

If you leave "From current time" enabled, you can use 0 to audio preview from the current position or shift-0 to audio preview from the beginning of the comp.

  • Precomposing a work area

I was hoping someone could help me figure out if there is a way to precompose layers into a specific work area you designate. For instance, you set an "in" and an "out" to your composition, then you precompose. Your composition then starts from the current time you're on and ends where you set the end of the work area. It would be like setting a length to the composition settings before you compose everything. I just want everything to be clean instead of having all this extra length at the ends of each of my compositions.

I think that Rick might have been referring to this script:
Chris Zwar » Blog Archive » Pre-compose to layer duration (a script)
But, there is a very important question: What version of After Effects are you using? In After Effects CC (12.1) last year, we added the option to trim the precomposition to be the duration of the selected layers that are being precomposed. So, this script is unnecessary.

  • HELP - Trim marks in bleed area won't print

Using Illustrator CS3 I have imposed an item 8up on the artboard with manually created trim and score lines within the bleed area. For some reason the lines will not print.
    - I have checked the attributes and the lines have not been selected as non-printing items.
    - I have created the lines with the line tool in registration colour and placed them 2mm away from the edge of the artboard.
    - In the print setup I checked the page trim marks on.
    - In the print setup I set the bleed to 5mm and when that did not show the manual trim lines I even tried 10mm.
    - When the document prints the only trim marks that appear are the page size crop marks applied during print setup.
    - The objects overlapping from the artboard into the bleed area print but the trim lines that do not touch the artboard won't print.
I have previously been using CS2 and this method has been working fine until I upgraded to CS3. Has anything changed? Why is this no longer working? Is there a preference somewhere that tells illustrator to not print items that don't touch the artboard?
Can someone please help as this is causing me lots of problems.

Thanks for your quick response and link.
While I was searching for a solution to this problem I actually posted on that site with another solution for importing files into InDesign with bleed. (Anonymous said... 2/15/2008 1:42 AM)
I do find your post helpful for printing illustration files placed in Indesign. However is there no solution to printing directly from illustrator apart from increasing the document size?
Is the bug only recent to CS3? I could print directly from Illustrator CS2 and the lines and bleed would print.
If I group all of the trim / score lines would they print then?
I don't understand why this has changed. How painful.

  • Cache work area in background, when completed system become locked and non-responsive

    I have a Windows 7 Ent x64 AMD AM3 965 system, 8gb memory with 2 1TB WD Black spin drives C: for programs and F: for cache.
My Disk Cache folder f:\AE Cache (50gb allowed) & Media Caches f:\AE MCache (Both cache folders total 32gb after caching)
I have a 2 minute long animation with serveral comps. (Screenshots of my application, basic simple tutorial)
Whenever I tell AE to ''cache work area in background'', my whole system starts to become slow, then at the end of the cache I try to open another comp or close program, it will lock up my system for a few minutes until it finished whatever else it needs to finish. When I close AE after background caching I can forget about doing anything for about 10+ minutes, not even able to open task manager to see what is going on because the system does not respond.
Occurs  on my Work Station and Home PC.
Is this normal when ''Caching work area background'' and opening another comp or closing AE:CC?
    File size of AE project 1.3mb, rendered = 29mb, 868x564 23.89fps, 16bpc, no sound, 2 min 10sec.

I wouldn't call it normal, but honestly the "Performance Cache" is simply garbage and has so many bugs, I'm not at all surprised. What I wrote back then still applies:
    http://myleniumblog.com/2012/05/15/make-cs6-work-for-you/
Simply turn it off and you'll be a lot happier. Build conventional RAM previews to check your comp timing.

  • Where Did Work Area Choice Go

I recently moved from CS3 to CS5.5. Back in CS3, I would select "work area only" when exporting to Encore. I can't find a way to trim to only the required area of my timeline.
It's a problem, as my timeline is very very long, and I only want to export a short piece for a test BluRay disk.
I've gone throught the help and online, but still can't find a way to only export a sub-section of my Premiere CS5.5 timeline.
Would really appreciate help, or a pointer to a help source.

Are you exporting to Encore (method is same as always), or sending to Encore (dynamic link, in which you can only send a whole sequence). If the latter, nest your sequence into a new sequence, and reduce so you have only the part you want to send to Encore in the new sequence.
Edit: by same as always, it may have changed a bit. When you export, look to the source tab on the left of the export window, and the "source range" at the bottom.

  • HELP!! Moved iTunes music to new comp, but playlists are GONE!!!

Ok, I've posted a couple times now, gotten no helpful responses as of yet, so here goes another attempt:
I just got a new computer. My iTunes music was stored on an external harddrive. I was able to get the music to show up in the iTunes library on the new computer, but
1.) All the songs are checked. I had a specific 900(or so) out of my 10,000 songs selected, for ease of syncing my 4GB iPod Nano. I don't want to have to go through every single song to uncheck the ones that were unchecked before. What can I do?
2.) I have dozens of playlists, some hundreds of songs long. Now, in the new iTunes on the new comp, the playlists are GONE. How can I restore them(other than putting them together one song at a time)?
3.) Some of the album artwork is gone. Some isn't. What gives? How can I restore the missing artwork?
4.) How can I make sure that new iTunes purchases are stored on the external harddrive, not the new comp's harddrive?
That's it for now. Someone PLEASE help, this is a major pain....

Chris CA answered most of your questions in your other posts.
You need that iTunesLibrary.itl file from your old PC.
That's the way iTunes was designed, the way it works, and if you want your play lists and checkmarks back, you need to get it back.
Here is a good article on that - scroll down to the section titled
*iTunes: The Database versus the Content*
    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
Your exHD needs to have the same drive letter as it did on your old system, too.

  • 3d camera tracking in work area

I'm relatively new to after effects and I'm working at integrating some elements into video footage. I'm trying to use the 3d camera tracker to map out the video, which has already been edited with a large number of cuts. Is there a way to set the tracker to analyze only the frames within the work area?  Despite my work area being set on only around 60 frames, the entire 1170 frames continue to get analyzed...and fail because of the numerous scene and camera changes. I'm using a mac with cs6 is that helps. Thanks for your help!

As Dave said, simply export the clip you want to be tracked separately. Since it will produce a normal 3D camera layer that can be copied&pasted and mocved around, it would be easy enough to transfer the data to your main comp/ timeline later...

  • For some reason when I plug my ipod into my comp itunes freezes but my ipod says it is plugged and when I plug it into a different comp it works. How can I fix this?

For some reason when I plug my ipod into my comp itunes freezes but my ipod says it is plugged and when I plug it into a different comp it works. How can I fix this?

Setesh, See if both computer has the same version of iTunes, if both are the same, then it is your PC, that has plug-ins which is in conflict it iTunes. ( normally it is the Antivirus or some plug-ins to beautify your screen)
If it is different, most likely the other PC has an older version of iTunes, so you should downgrade your iTunes to that older version, which your iPod interface well with.
    Other probable causes,
you are using the USB 1.1 port at the front of your PC, and not the USB2,0 port at the back of your PC. so switch to the back.
Dont use any other USB devices, when you are syncing the iPod.
    Dont use any USH Hub.
    Have a nice day!

  • Photoshop CC work area troubleshooting on wacom tablet

Hi I have a very odd problem going on with photoshop cc while using my wacom tablet. For the most part it runs fine with no real problems whatsoever. I can work on photoshop normally until I move my cursor away from the wacom screen, back to my MacBook, and click out of the program. Once I do this the work area in photoshop disappears. specifically meaning the window where my current file is being made goes blank. everything around the work area appears the same, like the tools, tabs, etc.  My only solution to this problem is to turn off and on the wacom tablet. It works fine after that until I click out of the program again. Its getting pretty annoying to deal with now so any help would be super appreciated. I will post pics to give you guys an example when I get the chance. Posting from my phone right now.
    here are my specs:
    Macbook Pro  15-inch
    2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 512 MB
    OSX 10.9.2 (13C64)
    Cintiq 13 HD

Is it just slow drawing, or is actual computation (image size, rotate, GBlur, etc.) also slow?
If the slowdown is drawing, then the most likely culprit would be the video card driver. Update your driver from the GPU maker's website.
If the computation slows down, then something is interfering with Photoshop. We've seen some third party plugins, and some antivirus software cause slowdowns over time.

  • Work area field value not getting populated in table control grid.

    Hi all,
I am currently facing an issue where I have declared a variable and have fetched the workarea field name in it. To be exact, the variable contains the workarea name whose value I am finally populating to the table control. Now although the workarea name when manually copied and pasted in field name in debugging mode exhibits the value of the it, Im unable to fetch the same value in the variable as I have only the work area name in it. I need the value of the workarea-field to be in the variable. Please provide your valuable suggestions for this issue...

    Hi Nabheet,
    Please consider the below example...
    DATA: l_var(30) TYPE C.
    CONCATENATE 'wa' '-' I_FIELD2-NAME INTO l_var.
The i_field2-name contains the name of a custom table field CP_CUSTOM_GRP. So now the l_var contains wa_cp_custom_grp.
Now consider the wa_cp_custom_grp has a value 'BA'.
Now my issue is the l_var contains wa_cp_custom_grp but not its value(too obvious)... Would like to know whether is there a way through which the value of this wa_cp_custom_grp  'BA' could be populated to the variable l_var...
