I reinstalled Firefox because Facebook links weren't posting. Now, every website is untrusted (google, facebook, even Mozilla's web site).

So initially my problem was that with this computer, links to external sites could not be posted on facebook. This problem was individual to this computer, so I reinstalled Firefox. After reinstalling, every web site I visit is telling me that the connection is untrusted. Most people say to check your date and time, but mine are correct, and I made sure to sync it with one of the internet time sites windows gives as an option. I've used Mozilla for years, and it would kill me to have to switch because of this problem.

I have tried this, but this has not resolved the issue. Also, for all https sites, if I accept the supposedly insecure certificate, nothing but basic html is present (no images or anything) despite settings being set to accept such.

  • I recently had to uninstall and reinstall firefox because I could not open it. Now all my websites and bookmarks are gone and I need to get them back. How?

I have lost all of my most visited websites, bookmarks, and all other data due to reinstalling firefox. I have some files in the Mozilla Firefox folder (C:\Program Files\(x86)\Mozilla Firefox) but none of them are able to be opened when I click Firefox>Bookmarks>Import and Backup>Backup. Is there any way to get all of my information back?

IOBit's software is worse than useless and shouldn't be used. Use Window's built in uninstaller for all install/uninstall processes
Firefox data is saved in your user files, which aren't saved via restore points, so if the information is not there (the article I linked to above would help you find it) then it looks like it was lost because iobit didn't give you an option to save your files. Unless you have a backup of your data somewhere.
You could try a file recovery system, but if you've made changse to your computer since uninstalling (like installing new software, restarting your machine even) it's most likely not going to work.

  • Can the webmaster fix mozilla's web site so that users don't end up with non working 32bit version of firefox on their 64 bit Linux (see bug #723487)?

I've been subsribed to bug #723487 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=723487) for a year and a half, and I identified a problem in the way mozilla's site delivers the linux version of firefox almost a year and a half ago, but for reasons unknown to me, no one bothered to address this problem.
Other, properly built web sites that deliver binary software packages for linux, can successfully recognise if the user downloading firefox is using a 32bit or 64bit Linux distribution, and offer the appropriate version. Try www.libreoffice.org if you think that my claims are false.
But this somehow doesn't work with mozillas website, the website recognizes that the user's operating system is Linux, but doesn't try to figure out if it's a 32bit or 64bit linux, so the users end up with 32bit builds of firefox by default, which then don't work on their 64bit sytems.
The problem is even more intensified due to the rather stupid naming convention used by mozilla - both the 32 and the 64 bit versions are simply named identicaly - for instance firefox-29.0b6.tar.bz2 for the 29 beta 6 version. Other sane software producers (libreoffice, nvidia, qt-project) names their binary packages with different names (eg. the "x86" string is used for the 32bit version, "x64" for the 64bit version) so that the users don't end up trying to use (unsucsesfully; getting a cryptic error message) the wrong version. But in mozilla's case we end up with a lot of confused users filing bug reports, like the bug I mentioned above.
So to rephrase my question - is someone willing to do something about this (the QA Mentor who commented in bug #723487 has so far proven to be completely useless)?

The 64-bit Linux builds have been listed on the http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ page since Firefox 27.0 or 26.0 I believe.

  • How do I retain Mozilla Firefox but DITCH (please!) Bing as search engine? I love Google; and love Mozilla Firefox, but will not run Firefox if Bing is now required search engine!

After uploading FLV media player last night, I found that "Bing" had taken over my PC. I do not want "Bing" as a search engine; I don't want it installed on my computer. I do not even want it displayed as an option! Mozilla with Google is outstanding, and I depend upon these two programs working in tandem!

To revert to Google as your preferred search engine, please do the following.
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://www.google.com/search?q=
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "Copy Link Location" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.
'''To reset your home page, do the following'''.
    * Go to the site you want to set as your homepage.
    * Click the orange Firefox button and go to '''Options '''| '''Options '''| '''General'''
    * Make sure it says "''Show My Homepage''" in the first dropdown menu.
    * Click the button called "'''Use Current Pages'''" to set the homepage to the one you have on the screen.
After you complete the above steps, install this add-on to prevent another search engine from modifying your preferences: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/browserprotect/

  • Firefox has just started being incapable of accessing any website while other programs--Eudora & IE--continue accessing web as usual.

Firefox has worked well for years. Suddenly yesterday it started failing to find any web site. The message is always "unable to connect." Meanwhile, IE and Eudora continue accessing the web as usual.

  • Can Firefox be fixed to block tracking cookies even it the web site refuses to cooperate?

Too many web sites (e.g., New York Times, New Yorker, Google) do not honor the request to block tracking cookies. They add them back in within seconds after I delete them. Most of the added cookies are not, repeat not, from the owner of the website but are added via some agreement with the site owner. Most of these cookies are from sites having no connection with me or the site provider. Can or will Firefox provide an option to block all cookies inserted from the web site?

Firefox only sends a DNT=1 response header to the server.<br />
It is up to the server to decide what to do with that request.

  • Firefox is not displaying webpages correctly. Certain areas of the page don't finish loading. Recently reinstalled Firefox because it kept crashing. Put a personna on and this started. I uninstalled personna, problem still exists

I don't know what else to say to explain problem.

    Hi Mariah ~
It's Shaunn, the original poster. Thanks for your posting. I'm glad I'm not the only one that's having this problem.
Now that you mention it, I'm having the exact same problem on Facebook as well, when I play Family Feud.
I wish someone would investigate and post a solution to this problem. No-one from Playlist has responded, and no-one "Officially" from Firefox either.
So Mariah, I appreciate you and your post.
If you find anything out...from anywhere...would you please let me know. You can post it right here and I'll get an email from Firefox.
I'll do the same for you.
Enjoy your day and good luck.

  • At the moment i'm trying to uninstall and reinstall firefox because when i open it all i get is a white page. But when I go to uninstall it it says that firefox is still running yet it isn't. Iwould just like some help on this please

I've checked everything that might be running firefox and it isn't running

    Hello Wyodor,
thanks for your reply on my question.
You are wright the index file is 308 KB.
And offcourse that I delete my files and documents is not an Iweb problem, but because my English is not that good, that I thougt I try to tell the whole story, and hope people can read trough the lines.
Why I didn't use Iweb to upload to the server is because the server company recommanded to use file zilla. And I am a nobody with this kind of things, so I did exactly what they tell me to do.
No, i did not make a backup of Iweb and the domain file, but reading other messages on this forum showed me that I can maybe try to make empty the cashfile (?)
and otherwise I have bad luck and have to make my website again. Offcourse I have a lot of examples from all the pages (copied from the local map to my USB stick) and my website is aprox. 15 Mb, (not so big) so it will cost me a few nigths.
But I'm still hoping on a miracle :-)
    greetings Lasource

  • I have been a user of Firefox for a long time but it seems to have gotten really slow. IE will open web sites much faster than firefox on all 3 of my computers. Is there something wrong, boged down or do I need to reinstall it?

It seems that it is taking twice as long for firefox to open the same websites as ie. I run updates but seems to just be taking a long time for it to open sites and I can open with IE in much less time?

  • I used to like Firefox because it was so stable. Now it crashes all the time.

A small blue circle appears and goes round and round and a whitish screen covers the window such that you can see the page behind it but you cannot interact with it. It is frozen. This happens almost every time I try to use Firefox. I am going to have to shift to Chrome. This is really screwing up the computer. I am not sure what more details to give you. I hit control alt delete and look at the open applications. Often it has not responding after Firefox, but not always. The page is frozen regardless of what it says about responding or not.
I use this computer for my small business and this has made it very difficult.

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment and displays the Mozilla Crash Reporter. Are you seeing that, or is Firefox just freezing and you're killing it?
Assuming you have crashes, you can submit that data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the support article "[[Firefox Crashes]]" (especially the last section) for steps to get those crash report IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.
If that's not possible, have you tried Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run
After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset).
    Any difference?

  • Last week Firefox was crashing about once a day, now it has "not responding" after about 5 minutes on any site. Help please??

Last week Firefox began "crashing" about once a day. Today it started not responding about 5 minutes after I sign in, no matter what site I am on. My son could not do any school work (online program) because it kept freezing. My computer is protected from malware and viruses (supposedly) I've downloaded the latest version of Firefox and ran a scan, nothing shows up. Please help. Thanks!

  • Firefox updated to its newest version 12.0. Now my Adobe Flash plugin freezes and hangs every website when it is enabled even though it is the newest version.

Today Firefox updated to its newest version 12.0. Immediately after update, I couldn't load most websites. The web browser would just freeze. I have determined that the culprit is the Adobe Flash Plugin, however; even with the newest version of the plugin, I am still having problems. Any suggestions?

  • I have been using Firefox for over 10 years with minimal problems, but recently (within the past 2 months) something has changed and I cannot get any sound to play, even on previous web sites that did work. I'll just have to go back to IE!

Windows XP, Firefox 3.6.13 version, I am thinking it would be better to back up to a previous version of Firefox that did work! What was the latest version as of October 2010?

Thanks to some hints in several strings, I went back to the Control Panel in XP, clicked on Sounds and Devices, clicked on Audio, then changed the default device to the Realtek HD Audio output I have on my computer. Now I can hear You Tube video sound and other Internet audio fine, at least for now. I will come back if it stops again. Thanks to all who posted.

  • How to stop Firefox demanding authentication for each page of the same website (IE does not do this for the same site))

I have a website (Still being developed but at the testing stage) which works fine in IE but when viewed in Firefox It insists on authentication at every page, instead of just one login it repeats the login at every page.

    Hi,
If it's Basic auth, please check if this happens in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. If it's okay, you can later [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20profile?s=profile&r=1&e=sph&as=s copy the needed personal data] from the old profile. Firefox stores your personal data and settings in another location separate from its [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Installation_directory files/folder]. A new profile would have the default Firefox settings ('''Tools''' ('''Alt''' + '''T''') > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Options%20window '''Options'''], and [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] ), and usually would also be empty of any '''Extensions''' and themes ('''Appearance''') in Tools > Add-ons) and their settings. Also, a new profile would have no previous stored website data/settings etc., ('''Tools''' > [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History '''Clear Recent History''']).

  • Websites on Firefox: For some reason the top line of every website (including Log-in) is inactive, does not work!

An example: On the current page, clicking (single or double click) on items in the page heading produce no result.
This has been noted on my e-mail accounts with Yahoo.co.uk, Postmaster.co.uk and gmail.com, Barclays bank and other business and commercial sites. The main problem is caused by the inability to sign/log in.

    HI Bev,
*"I've tried safari, firefox and camino and it's the same for all of them."*
Since this is happening on all of your browsers I'm inclined to think it's the Parental Controls causing the glitch. Can you disable Parental Contols and see if the problem persists?
Keep in mind you can only enable and disable Parental Control's from your admin account.
Also, try repairing disk permissions and see if that helps...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Open System Preferences/Accounts. Click the gold padlock bottom left side of the window. You will be prompted for your admin password. Now select your personal account in the panel on the left. Now, make sure the box next to: Allow user to administer this computer is checked. Quit System Preferences and restart your Mac. Try internet access ...
One other thing. I noticed in your profile you are running 10.5.6. You need to be up to 10.5.8.
You can download and install the 10.5.8 combo update available here.
