  • I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but it will not start up upon clicking

Firefox will not start up. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, done a system restore, and nothing works. I can use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and it works fine, but all of my saved information on Firefox is not available.

    Many thanks.
That suggests that another application has stashed old QuickTime componentry in your system files.
So just in case we'll go looking for older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and Hide extensions for known file types is unchecked.
    Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
If you have a 32-bit version of Windows, open the "System32" folder.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

I am unable to download updates directly to iPad 2 , now trying to reinstall one from scratch but download keeps stopping and the restarting. Can you offer any advice, this happening when trying to download to laptop in itunes as well. Have tried to download on different broadband lines without success. Is this an apple problem due to high demand or something else?
Everything has worked well until about a month ago, up to date iOS 5 and itunes installed. Tried resetting numerous times, turned off all apps still no joy. Ipad was great but now feeling buying one was mistake. Also recent music purchase was useless and tunes would not play correctly.

Since this is happening on the iPad and the computer, it might be worth a try to reboot your router - unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Quit iTunes on the PC, reboot it and the iPad as well
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons

  • No choice, need to reinstall OS from scratch, but... Help!

I've been dealing with a disk error that has tripped up every application I've used to correct it. Disk First Aid could nothing. I tried Disk Warrior, but that's taking centuries to run and still won't solve the end problem (according to a DW techie). But before running DW I tried to use Retrospect, but that application won't function either, presumably because of the original disk error. All of this because I can't upgrade to Tiger and because I've been told that though there are no issues now the disk error will eventuallly get me. I don't know what the disk error is but it clearly is causing problems up and down the chain.
Anyway, so I am forced to reinstall Tiger from scratch thus entirely erasing and reformatting my hard drive (which I've been told will solve the problem). But without a Retrospect back up all I can do is drag'n'drop from an external hard drive back onto the Powerbook. But though I've backed up most everything manually I'm sure I'm missing things, plus there's all those settings and preferences (and where is my Safari bookmarks file?).
So, should I do this and go through the pain? Should I take it into a professional and have them do a more thorough backup and reinstall and reset? Should I buy a new Powerbook and just have it copy over everything onto a freshly formatted Tiger machine and sell my old one with a fresh install and reformat on Ebay (no)? Or just stay with Panther until I buy a new one later and live with the risk of an eventual hard drive meltdown?
What to do, what to do??? Thanks.
Also, with Restrospect, what happens with a restore if I've reinstalled a new OS since the backup? Does it do anything with the OS or not?

Your Safari Bookmarks.html file is in the folder ~/Library/Safari.
    Good luck.

  • I have downloaded the new update for Firefox 3.6 and now cannot connect to the internet. I've checked my firewall and have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, but nothing works.

After installing the new update for Firefox 3.6, no matter what I do, I cannot connect to the internet using Firefox. I can get on the internet using my other browsers (Google Chrome and Internet Explorer), so Firefox is the only one that doesn't work. I have already checked my firewall and have added and removed Firefox from my firewall to no avail. I've also already uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, but so far it hasn't helped.

I have already tried removing firefox from my firewall. Even when I do that, my firewall doesn't detect firefox and prompt me to add it. And when I manually add it, it still doesn't work anyways. I've already tried the link as well, but it has been unhelpful. :/
I'm not sure if it matters, but a few weeks before this, I did download Microsoft Security Essentials.

"program access and defaults" is not the place to remove programs in Windows. You need to go to the control panel and click on Add and Remove programs. For instructions on how to uninstall Firefox, see [[Uninstalling Firefox]]

  • I am receiving a "couldn't load XPCOM" error. I know that I can reinstall Firefox but how do I save my bookmarks?

I am receiving a "couldn't load XPCOM" error. I know that I can reinstall Firefox but when I went to do that it erased all of my bookmarks so I did a system restore. How do I save my bookmarks?

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • I redirected iTunes to an external drive and moved my iTunes library and folder, but my hard drive is still low on space.  How can I be sure that my music is all on the external HD ONLY, especially with the new iCloud technology?

I redirected iTunes to an external drive and moved my iTunes library and folder, but my hard drive is still low on space.  How can I be sure that my music is all on the external HD ONLY, especially with the new iCloud technology?  It doesn't look like I created any more space by doing this, AND I totally lost all my iTunes playlists.  I'm not sure if because I added old library materials manually if this messed up my playlists, or if the new location is just not reading my moved library.  In any case, I followed step by step instructions and found a few holes and thought I'd just "figure it out" but I guess I'm not as smart as I thought since I'm still scratching my head many hours later.
    Thanks for any support ;-)

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

  • I followed your help directions on "Corrupt extension files" under "Unable to install add-ons", foolishly deleting the files you told me to. Now firefox won't open. I tried reinstalling firefox but it still won't open. Now what do I do?

I was trying to install the SEOQuake add on. After clicking install Firefox would hang up saying the script had timed out and asking if I want to stop it or continue. Didn't matter which option I chose nothing would happen. The only way to stop it was to close Firefox and restart. Tried restarting the computer. Still wouldn't install. Tried installing the Outwit add on and got the same error leading me to conclude it was a problem with Firefox, not the add on. I found this help page <http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons?s=addons+won't+install&as=s> and did everything it told me to. Finally at the end I got to "Corrupt extension files". I foolishly deleted the files you told me to and now Firefox won't even start! I tried reinstalling Firefox and it still won't start. Tried restarting the computer. I have no idea how to get back to where I was let alone install the add ons I wanted to install. Please help. At this point I'd just be happy to be able to get Firefox working.

See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See [[Basic Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile|Basic Troubleshooting&#58; Make a new profile]]
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile (be careful not to copy corrupted files)<br />

  • Trying to reinstall firefox but keep getting the same notice that system needs to reboot to complete uninstall of previous version. System reboots but no more happens

I keep tryingto reinstall Firefox on Windows Vista but every time I receive a notification that my machine needs to reboot to remove remnants of previously uninstalled version. System reboots but Firefox does not install !!

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Starting from scratch. New iTunes library.

I recently had an external HD failure that had all of my music stored on it. I want to reimport the music I currently have on my new external. But my problem is, I have my iTunes library from before, which is synced to my iPhone. The library still has all previous apps installed. I was hoping to start from scratch with the music portion. Do I simply just select all in the library and hit delete and then reimport music? or is there a better way? I just don't want to lose anything besides the music on my library list.

Take a look at this article, it may help.
